I am a natural pessimist, but even I can't believe the way a lot on here are talking. We'd have given our right arm to finish third at the start of the season. Let's save the post mortem 'til after we have finished. MOT. 👍.

perspective mate, if told that derby, borough, west brom, stoke and villa would all have quite bad seasons and we would be clear at top on christmas there is not a chance anyone would of taken 3rd.3rd is great but not in context with how this season has played out sadly.

Bang on. Bermondsey.

06 May 2019 20:33:28
Bang off Bermondsey. The OP said we'd have given our right arm at the START of the season (for 3rd) . I agree with the comment.

Bringing our league position at Christmas. Ans subsequent results is just twisting the perspective of the OP comments. But as you say, it's all about perspective 😉.

Yes third is better than we expected, but third doesn't get you promoted.

06 May 2019 21:29:13
So we agree, 3rd is better than we'd hoped for but not as good as we'd dreamed of?

06 May 2019 21:40:06
What were everyone’s predictions at the start of the season, eh? Be honest. I hoped to scrape into the playoffs. You?

06 May 2019 21:54:10
It makes no difference what we thought at the start of the season. The fact is we F****** threw it away at Easter. End of!

06 May 2019 22:27:02
Bermo, you said we were lucky if we got into the playoffs at the start of the season and even when we were to’, you still said we weren’t going to get promoted. And then even when we have exceeded your expectations, as we didn’t scrape the playoffs, you’re still not happy. I don’t understand!

We are in May and still with a chance of getting promotion, Elland Road will sell out for the game with 30,000 plus people who still believe we have a chance. That’s enough for me.

You cannot write the book about this season until it’s over, and not nearly over yet!

{Ed025's Note - well said spanish..

I was hoping to beat last season to be honest Bright, then we got Bub who I had never heard off then we didn’t recruit anything like enough (or so I imagined) so honestly I thought same as previously just missing playoffs.

Great posts Southern. We appointed a manager who has pretty much lived up to his billing in every respect. Motivated and developed an average squad, developed a playing style that has allowed to beat every team in the top six at least once this year, enigmatic and presided over a second half of the season drop in form that many of his critics predicted! I don’t think that final point is sufficient explanation of our performance over the run in and in a way it doesn’t really matter because he has given us, the team and himself a chance . He now has the opportunity to answer his critics and deliver something that will be a massive legacy for him. Let’s give him the next 2/ 3 games to show us. I think he has earned the opportunity!

07 May 2019 01:56:26
I am with you Spanish.

07 May 2019 02:18:45
Spanish, I think the drop in form has been in the last few games, not the whole second half of the season. The goalscoring form has dropped off, not just from whichever centre forward plays, but from midfield too, but generally the form has been good. They just need to give their heads a good shake now and destroy our opponents in the next 3 games.

07 May 2019 06:37:03
Al, I’m with you, just trying to say that those moaning about Bielsa knew like the rest of us exactly what we were getting and if anything he has done better performance wise than many of those would have predicted. I’m really interested to see how we come out at Derby.

spanish and southern it is all perspective.

Spanish of course i am not happy to be the only team top at xmas not to go up, of course i am not happy with form since xmas that would leave us 14th in the league. of course i am not happy or optomisitic with our form entering the play offs. if anyone is happy with any of the above the need to check themselves into the hospital and seek medical attention

southern and ed25, yes 3rd is far better than i would of hoped. at start of season i would of bite your hand off for 6th. but i know more than i knew then. when i would of jumped at 6th i expected

west brom to be amazing and run away with league like newcastle and wolves did.

i expected borough to be a top top team under pulis

i expected villa to be amazing after last years upset

i expected stoke and swans to be very strong teams after religation

i expected derby to be very very strong

then thrown in brentford and one other for playsoffs and we could of finished 9th

however none of the above happened, the big teams have been poor allowing norwich and sheff utd to go up. credit to them both but you would suggest had the other teams been as strong as i thought neither of them would of stood a chance.

so despite what i thought at start of the season what i know now is the league standard has been quite low this year and was a great chance for automatic promotion

if someone told me i would win five grand on friday i would be happy, if i then found out that was because i won the euro lotto and this week the prize was 5 grand and not 74 million i would be gutted. its all perspective and our perspectives change the more information we are given.
