I know it's all paper talk so far - but. If two or three of these come to fruition then where do they play and what does it say to the U23s. Must be that at least a handfull will be ready to step up next year. How will they get in if we are buying in answers to our problems. A sample is: if we buy Iturraspe where does KP go? If he drops into the back four is it goodbye Coops?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sadly, Leo. I don't think Cooper would be good enough for the PL.
Been great this season, but I think this is his level. 😞.

I am with you on this one, leodis.

I worry about an influx of journeymen premier league or championship (depending on our final destination) standard players being brought in and stifling the progress of what sounds like a very good crop of young players in our academy

I am all for the Gary McAllister, Mark Viduka type marquee signing to raise the overall quality of the squad, but the break through of the Gary Speeds, the David Battys, the Johnathan Woodgates and the Alan Smiths have been as just as important in our clubs history

The selling of Robinson, Lennon, Milner, Delph, Cook and Taylor has been more galling than the sales of Hasselbaink, Dacourt, Mills, Fowler, Wood and Snodgrass

If we go up, maybe the West Brom and Burnlet approach of just improving the Championship team with a couple of better players is the way to go about it. Be prepared for a possible relegation and subsequent promotion again. Then bring in another couple of better players. All the while their younger players are going to become the leaders in more successful premiership campaigns

Just a thought.

I honestly think, that even if we retained our current squad, we would not be relegated from the PL. Purely because of Bielsaball. Yes, our squad is not of sufficient quality for the PL, but our style of play, fitness, and domination of games as a result, would have an impact, unlike the dourness of so many previously promoted sides. 2 or 3 good additions would see us about mid table.

22 Mar 2019 21:59:01
Don't like saying it but that McAllister goal against us just before we bought him was a good one.

22 Mar 2019 22:24:14
I am with you Brights.

23 Mar 2019 01:47:47
Berm Utter drivel. I knew all about McAllister prior to him joining us. I distinctly recall him giving Andy Williams a tough time when we lost 3-4 to Leicester the season before.

Leo Ita whatever his name is would challenge KP for starting berth. You need cover for every position. In PL you require superior cover than Forshaw. Many of the good younglings will go out on loan next season.

Much as I like Gary Mac, I blame him for our eventual down fall. He stole 15m on a free kick late in the game to score for L, pool against everton (out off range from where it was supposed to be) which lifted them into the top three putting us into 4th thus not qualifying for the Champs league which started all our problems. We were relegated the following year as we ran out of money. Anyway. Never liked Gary Mac after that. MOT heres to our future.

Finished 4th 2001
Relegated 2004.

Yep, for me that would be the start of the downfall. We had to start selling in 2002 starting with Ferdinand. Everyone has a defining moment that in their mind started the slippery slide out of the Premiership. Unfortunately for me it was that goal in injury time and Mac pinching about 15 yards to put the goal in range. Unfortunate chain of events but that's life. MOT - Fingers crossed this year we return.

Gary Mac's goal from a free kick at Port Vale in the cup remains one of the best goals I've seen, about 25 yards out, no backlift, over the wall and in the net. I was so stunned by the sheer brilliance of it that I forgot to jump up n down 😁😁😁.

Signing of Gary Mac, him choosing us ahead of the florists was a sign of intent by Leeds

Disgusting what happened to him in Leeds. He should be remembered as a great player for Leeds and duly respected as such.
