Just a further thought on the money we got for KP. N’Golo Kante went to Chelsea from Leicester for £32.2m. Yes it was a few years ago, but he was a year younger the KP is now, had three years left on his contract, had just won the Prem, and crucially had missed just one match through injury prior to his move to Chelsea.

Six years ago Clu!
He isn't English . English international players attract much higher fees Maguire, Grealish, Sancho.

Baz Players you mention aren't DMs. You should only compare ? with ?. Players in the DM position don't go for super vast sums. Kal ought to have gone in George opinion for around £47M plus easily attainable £3M in add ons with more speculative add ons in amount of £9M. You need to take into consideration Citeh are seriously good negotiators, Kal injury ? record, only 2 years left on contract and it was becoming more obvious that his value to Leeds was on way down in a JM system. I admit Citeh got him on cheap side but only by 10% or so by my reckoning. Not enough to be upset by. Raph on other hand different matter. £65M minimum.

It maybe that the imminent signing of the young City prospect Darko Gyabi was tied into the KP deal.
It is possible that City were forced to let him go, he has been a target for Orta for a while apparently.
I’m sure City would not want to admit they had their twisted in this deal but it would mean they would get their man for a cut price.
It’s the way I would prefer to see these negotiations had evolved and who knows? Maybe it was.

Transfer value for defensive mids who don’t score goals isn’t that high . If you look at transfers for his position I think it’s about market value to be honest .

Baz - Grealish had a release clause - Citeh wouldn’t have paid that otherwise, and no-one else would have paid that much. Both Maguire and Sancho went to Devon, who are serial over-payers.

Apparently other clubs offered more for KP but he had his heart set on playing with Pep at Citeh, and the Club felt it right to let him have the move he wanted given that he could have left for Villa three years ago (for £30m) but chose to stay to help us get promoted. If you want to feel aggrieved about the Club’s stance on that, it’s up to you.

We are buying / selling in the most expensive league in the world, to 1 of the wealthiest clubs in world football.
We just sold England's player of the Euros last season, albeit after a injury ravaged season .

Guimares went to barcodes for 37mill?
That's right who?

Not many knew who he was, yet we had a player who was smack bang In public eye and seemed to have let him go below his value

Walker went there for 37 for fark sake or do somw now fink RB is a top top position .

Chris - you (as a layman in the UK, who possibly didn’t take interest in Ligue 1 or Lyon’s European exploits over the last 2 seasons) may not have heard of Guimaraes, but many (including top football directors) had, and there were a number of other clubs, including Juventus, very interested in signing the lad, who was apparently made the Saudi club’s top earner to help persuade him that their sports washing operation was a better option than ones that offered him European football.

Clue, as I alluded too, I, NOT ALL, hadn't heard of him .

My point being lots more had heard of Kal and seen Kal .
If the 42 is correct we have lost out on a few pound .

In a market where Harold went for 80, Ben for 52, Jadon for 90 ish, jack for 100, we have have been shortchanged .

And don't someone else in particular come back with apples for apples sillyness .

It's imperative we get a top price for Raph now .
( Btw Clue your incorrect about Ligue 1, I do try keep up with that, hence my desire for us to try for Amine Gouiri with Nice .

In that case, you should have been aware of Guimaraes.

As for KP, just to rehash points made previously by various folk, he’s a DM with very few goals and assists (who generally have a lower market value) , he’s now viewed as injury prone (missing 23 league games through injury in just the last 2 seasons) , while other clubs apparently offered more Leeds felt it right to let him have the move he wanted due to his choosing to stay previously to help us get promoted and established in the Prem. And yes, KP voted ‘England’s player of the Euro’s’, but that’s because we Leeds fans backed him in the voting……

But don’t let such info stop the whining about us getting a bad deal on him, particularly for those who can use it to feed into their incompetent Board narrative.

Opinions. Clue, we all have them and for what it's worth that's a very sweeping statement you made .

Just because I watch some french football, doesn't mean I KNOW IT ALL on french football .

I guarantee you, that on this forum not many would have heard of Bruno beforehand, although some here just to seem clued in will say ( oh yeah I knew of him well )

French league footballers very regularly appear in Italy a lot more than they would appear in UK, so of course the top Italians would have a lot better scouting infrastructure set up there than our clubs would .

Let's not forget too soon what or where our board almost brought us within a whisker of last season clue

THATS A FACT even the most optimistic can't argue about, 1 game away from relegation, yet our board deemed us good enough last January

This ain't me re-hashing negativity, this is my counter point to your claim that we are scouring negativity to diminish the boards standing amongst the fans .

1 game away Clue, 1

Here's hoping serious lessons have finally resonated with them ., ???.

I’ll take a pinch of both those opinions to affirm my belief. There’s always two sides to this story, just like saintly me and my dragon of a missus.

16.) 27 Jun 2022
26 Jun 2022 22:14:07
Thing is Chris, they always planned (and were very open about it) to go again in the transfer market this summer - so in that respect the lessons learnt is not particularly relevant. Yes, their plan in terms of squad size and development almost came unstuck at the end of last season due to the extent to which the wear and tear of Bielsaball kicked in within the squad they already planned to refresh this summer. However, having survived, they are now pressing on with that refresh.

And no I’m not claiming that anyone is scouring negativity to diminish the Board’s standing with fans - only that some folk on here have a really negative view of the Board which seems to make it very difficult to be objective about anything that happens at our Club. Even some of the Leeds content creators who have the lowest opinion of most of what our Board does have made peace with the KP transfer (including the fee) , feeling the Board was right to let him have the move to Citeh even though other Clubs were offering more, because they felt KP’s previous loyalty earned him the right to now work with one of the other top coaches, win some more trophies and get the chance to prolong his career by playing less often and reducing the risk of further injuries. Perhaps you feel the Board should have said sod your loyalty Kalvin, you’ll go to whoever pays the most….

17.) 27 Jun 2022
27 Jun 2022 07:47:19
No Clue I don't feel like the transfer had to involve any " confrontation " . Just hard to take when we all hear the fees been payed for players nowadays . I, like an awful lot more Leeds fans feel the fee could have been higher .

It's totally irrelevant what I feel btw, as I said in an earlier thread, it's just my opinion .

What's done is done, we are all in the same hope, that we can improve on last season and establish ourselves permenantly in this league.

18.) 27 Jun 2022
27 Jun 2022 08:51:04
Chris - if KP really wanted to go to Citeh, but they wouldn’t go higher with the transfer, how do you propose that the fee could have been taken higher?

You say now that what’s done is done. That was very much my position in the first place, and it was you and others who seemed to have a problem with it.

Anyway, as you also say we all hope we do better in the coming season, though some on here (not necessarily including yourself) seem very loath to see the positive in anything the Board is currently doing to achieve such an outcome.

19.) 27 Jun 2022
27 Jun 2022 10:18:34
No proposals needed Clue, it's now documented THERE WERE HIGHER BIDS, but Leeds unlike many other clubs seemed to have made it easy for Kal.

Clue, what's done is fundamentally done. But you can't be getting irate about differing opinions on here,

That's how it works we all input our own thoughts .

Anyways can we all move on from this thread now maybe? , ???.

20.) 27 Jun 2022
27 Jun 2022 22:39:53
I know there were higher bids from other clubs - I was the first to state that fact on here, and repeated the point earlier in this thread.

The point it KP only wanted to go to Citeh, so how do you propose that Leeds get Citeh to cough up more? The Board felt it appropriate to let KP have his wish, given he could have left 3 years ago to move to the Prem, and on a higher wage but turned the opportunity down to help us get promoted and then stayed after that for 2 seasons to help us become established in the Prem. Clearly you believe it was wrong for the Board to reward KP’s previous loyalty - some fans will agree with you but many don’t - including some who have been very critical of the Board over other matters.

I’m not irate about your different view, just restating my position, ‘cos your last comment suggests you’ve not read, or misread, what I actually wrote earlier.
