Middlesbrough are releasing Stephen mcmanus, nicky Bailey and julio arca. Worth a punt? Any thoughts?

Believable6 Unbelievable60

No, none of them are worth a punt otherwise Boro would keeping them!

Agree1 Disagree0

Bailey maybe but please god not arca, he's never been able 2 play

As above, why would we want this rubbish. Let go for a good reason no doubt. Hoping the OP won't be posting up the names of released players from all 91 league clubs for us to sift through.

Agree1 Disagree0

Worth a punt? Has to be worst thing to say really when we need good quality realiable signings who intend to get us out of this league. 'taking a punt' has what's got us into trouble with naff mediocre players

Agree0 Disagree0

If they are not good enough for them, then why on earth should they be good enough for us?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take Bailey any day; a Lampard sort of midfielder who would get at least 10 goals a season and a s*** load of assists. could be just what we need

Agree0 Disagree0

Nicky bailey looked half decent when he first went to boro other two no chance teesside white

Agree0 Disagree0

Being released?? answers your own question

The man at the top of Brian Mc's radar right now is Motherwell's Michael Higdon. The SFPA player of the year & top goalscorer is out of contract at the end of the season and wants to play in England within a team where he is likely to play games as opposed to keeping the bench warm.
Unfortunately the recent QPR interest in Dwight Gayle has tempered LUFC's interest as thet are reluctant to get involved in a bidding war but they do continue to moniter the situation with Lee Tomlin.
Brian Howard looks certain to strengthen the squad along with Chris Humphrey (both available on a free) allowing McDermott more funds to compete for players in other areas.
Luke Steele (who is yet to agree a new contract with Barnsley) is also been monitored.

Believable35 Unbelievable15

Luke steele oh great that's us going down then

P. boro said last night on twitter Gayle is out of our price range.

I don't mean to be down but higdon has a career best year at 29 and in scotland? can't deny what he's done because that's all u can do but its not great football particularly without rangers now. Is he worth a chance. Maybe. Don't seem him fitting mcd's profile and is more likely to be another billy paynter in the making

Agree0 Disagree0

Gayle is exactly the sort of player we need -fast, young, hungry, on the way up. Would be a great investment, as can only improve. Buying cheaper, older players is a very false economy -whatever money you do spend on the likes of Tonge, Varney et al is invariably money down the drain (especially as they ain't ever going to get us up). Neil Alexander is out of contract at Rangers, played the games when they reached the Uefa cup final. Saved a great penalty against the Italians in the shoot out in the semi, played in the championship before. And is better than Luke Steal, looking for a move south again. Rangers have brought Cammy Bell in.
Higdon is a late flourisher, the best player at Motherwell is James McFadden. He is a guy that Leeds need, proved he is over his injuries. Can play out wide or through the middle. Back to his best creating and scoring goals again. Went up with Birmingham in the league before, be a great signing. So would Kris Boyd to partner him. He still has goals in him, got 12 the last time he was there. Andy Driver on the wing would create, and Paddy McCourt on the other side. If the Derry Pele and McFadden were in the same team, it would get bums of seats.

Leeds looking at Adam Le Fondre. 700,000 I guess. Also Chris Burke or Nathan Redmond.

Believable52 Unbelievable31

700k? more like 7 million

Billy Sharp is going to be a big transfer target for Brian Mcdermott in the summer

Believable39 Unbelievable22

I bloody hope not. Sharp works well within his set-up I doubt he would be able to work with the system MaccyD is likely to want to play with LUFC

Agree0 Disagree0

And what system would that be are you on the coaching staff? Sharp's record is virtually 1in2 and he's proved he's one of the best goalscorers outside the prem and has scored goals in all different systems

Agree0 Disagree0

I think McDermott in his press conference said that he will build a system that suits the players, and not necessarily one he prefers.

Billy Sharp would be a great asset to Leeds. No clue on his price tag, but seems like a lot of Leeds fans would welcome him with open arms.

I'd heard nothing on this rumour until today but just wondered if anyone else new about El Hadji Diouf to AS Kaloum?

It seems like a strange one, but saw it about an hour ago.

Believable10 Unbelievable47

The club have told the AP that this is not true and that EHD has one year remaining on his current contract and they plan for him to at least be with Leeds until the end of next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think EHD would love to stay at Leeds and help us get promotion. He loves the fans because we are as fiery as he is. He maybe a nutter, but he's our nutter, and a class act still.

Agree2 Disagree0

I saw it too, probably and hopefully bs though!

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with the second reply well said mot

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I saw it was announced by their club president, which was a bit strange even though he was still under contract at Leeds.

Big Rumours are including:
Dwight Gayle
Adam Le Fondre
Bakary Sako
Albert Adomah
Alex Mccarthy
Casper Gorkss
Matt Mills
Nakhi Wells
Chris Burke

Believable29 Unbelievable29

Two players within that list that we won't get are McCarthy & Burke.

Reading have no reason to sell McCarthy, unless a tempting offer comes in. Plenty of premiership teams will be enquiring about him.

Burke signed a new one year deal the other day, and Birmingham wanted £750k for him in January with six months left on his contract so will probably command more now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have you just duplicated the names of players you've already seen others put on here?

Agree0 Disagree0

And where are the funds coming from to buy this little lot?

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't get mccarthy he's too good for leeds all the others could happen and were is matt Phillips
Aren't we chasing him

Agree0 Disagree0

Aston Villa have made a £4million bid for Peterborough's Dwight Gayle so he won't be coming to us

Agree0 Disagree0

Would take any of those except Nakhi Wells although mccarthy and burke sound unrealistic
