Sportsdirect reporting that Massimo Cellino is wanting Legendary Italian striker Alessandro Del Piero as a player/coach - Cellino says it would show real intent on his part.
Interesting.

Certainly would be sign of his intent . signing a 39 year old has been who can't get a contract in Australia

If true can, t knock that AP would be a great asset in my book 39 years old player coach amazing quality as a player lots to bring to the table and would still find the net in the championship easily as a bit player
Agree0

10 minute sub appearances here and their would work, Phillips does it still. Plus he'd be great as coach I reckon. Can Cellino seriously pull in people of this calibre?
Agree1
Disagree3
He plays for sydney in the a-league. he is a has been with the occasional flash of brilliance. He does not belong on a football field as a player any more
Agree3
Disagree0
Before anyone knocks him, Kevin Phillips came off the bench against us and set up the winner for Leicester. He is 40 and is still a game changer as he is a natural finisher. Del Piero is 39 and arguably one of the last decades most prolific strikers, whether he is still as clinical as he used to be remains to be seen. He could be a great supersub and knick important goals for us. Also think of him as a coach with his experience as a World Cup winner. I'd have him in my squad if possible.

Del Piero as a coach would be awesome, his playing days maybe behind him but having his skills and knowledge would be amazing for the academy and senior players, providing he is interested in coaching and taking his badges of course. One of the best forwards of the last 20 years coaching at leeds, yes please.

Hes not going to bring in Del Piero as a PLAYER. We can't bring in anyone in till the summer anyway. All football money men are crooks of some degree. This one is no different, but he's a football man with a cartload of money, and may well be the best thing to happen to this club since The Great Don .

Ed013 - I dare say we will see some Italian influx to the squad. Hopefully not to the detriment of our own academy though.
I wouldn't say not to Del Piero coming in as a coach next season with the odd off the bench appearance. Like another poster said Kevin Phillips can still do it and ADP is twice the player Phillips is. He could easily teach the young lads a few things in training.
Brian said today that Festa may come into the club in some capacity. Not sure what that would be, maybe some transfer/scouting area.

Cellino himself put a 15million price tag on him just before christmas when Juventus and Inter were scouting him. I doubt Ibarbo would want to come to Leeds when clubs like Juve and Inter are looking him, plus with Cellino looking to sell Caglari I'd doubt he'd fancy paying 15million to his former club once it's sold.
Ed - why do we get nonsense like this on the site, its clearly someone just thinking oh he's from cagliari, let's right some utter tripe.
No talk whatsoever on any site or anywhere in any shape or form but as soon as its confirmed that Cellino is buying Leeds then we get nonsense like oh he's going back for Ibarbo.

Good God some people would moan if they went to paradise, just hate all the negatives, get a life cheer up, be positive for once mate!. Briefly what sky are reporting today.
Massimo Cellino is hoping to push through a deal for Leeds after finalising the sale of his Serie A outfit Cagliari.
" he said.
"A club like Leeds has big potential. I want to see Leeds United versus Manchester United like it used to be. I want to make the fans happy. I know what it means to be a fan."
"I have practically sold Cagliari, the formalities will be completed when the lawyers of the buyers provide assurances to the league's governing bodies. They are good people."
The Italian has now turned his attention to Leeds and he is due to attend a Football League hearing on Wednesday, when they will rule on whether he has passed the league's test of whether he is fit to own a club.
"It is not going to be a problem, " Cellino told the Financial Times when asked about the Football League hearing.

What a load of tosh the above is. Bates tried to get the council to help him buy back ER but they refused.
As far as I remember it was a businessman from Manchester that purchased ER and said they could buy it back within 5 years for close to what he bought it for (obviously he gained rent). If not within the 5 yrs then the price would go up tenfold.

Rubbish! LOL!
United sold Elland Road to Manchester businessman Jacob Adler for an estimated £8m during the chairmanship of Gerald Krasner.
It was subsequently sold to its current owner, Teak Commercial Limited, a firm based in the British Virgin Islands.
Leeds pay around £2m a year to lease Elland Road and their Thorp Arch training ground, which was also sold off during Krasner’s chairmanship. The buy back of ER is about £15m
