How do we know he was even offered a contract? I suspect it was in region of 3m and now we can use it to strengthen the weaker parts of the field. I like the idea of undisclosed as it stops other targets becoming 'overpriced'. Then again ken can now do some more work on the ground that allegedly isn't ours.. ;@)

If he wanted to stay he could have and carried on trying to thrash out a contract and at the end of the season if an agreement isn't reached he still gets to leave to further his career as it's been put. Leeds have rejected Sochaux's £2m bid for Max Gradel!

Their chairman has described their bid as 'not receiving a positive response from Leeds'.....I'd imagine Bates has told him to do one...

LEEDS UNITED are bracing themselves for further bids for in-demand winger Max Gradel after rejecting Sochaux's £2million offer.
The Ivory Coast international, 23, is out of contract next summer and has yet to agree a new deal with the Whites.

Gradel is keen on a return to France where he grew up and could seal a move before the transfer window shuts.

West Ham and Fulham have also shown an interest this summer but Sochaux are out of the race after Leeds turned down their approach.

Sochaux chairman Alexandre Lacombe said: "We haven't had a positive reply on the offer we made. This case is closed now."

Regarding Gradel and Sochaux's negotitations, i would snap their hands off if they offered £7mil for a player in the last year of his contract! And i think we have accepted it, i mean if talks are at an advanced stage, that says to me its just a question over personal terms and a medical now. I fear though that we will have to wait until January to see if that money gets spent on players coming in, seen as its prob gonna be an 11th hour sale to Sochaux.

Don't think it will be anywhere near £7m. The Sun website claims the bid was £2m which was rejected. No doubt Bates will start panicking and sell him for £2.5-£3m, ironically less than the fee we have already turned down for him!.... typical!

I have over the past few months expressed my concerns about teams coming in just before the transfer deadline for our players. If the money is good enough, then Papa Smurf will sell. It's alright saying well be ok we have this player or that player, we need cover for positions! I hope Grayson has an eye on the odd prem player on a loan basis. We've played well so far and been unlucky, but that doesn't get you points on the board!

We have rejected their feeble offer of £2 million. End of....

Sochaux in advanced talks could mean anything. There certainly hasn't been a bid accepted!

They could be in advanced talks with his agent bout the prospect of making a bid. I wouldn't read too much into it to be honest as a bid would need to be accepted before talks begin. If a bid was accepted the media would be all over it and we would know so I wouldn't worry too much yet. The fact that Gradel himself is in the Ivory Coast and him needing to do a medical and sign terms etc could be a problem for them.

But if he does go then there isn't enough time for SG to get a replacement in so we would be royally f***ed unless Nunez steps up to the plate!

Nunez is no winger. He is not a replacement for Max. His best position is in the hole behind the front striker. Max's departure will mean more games for Sam.

Unless are you nuts. He been our best player so far this season

We wont get £10m for him, iIf we does go it will be an undisclosed fee!, and we will end up with noone in transfer window. Then we will be fobbed off as usual that we "did try and bring a couple in etc" but it didnt happen. Dont worry though because emergency loan window reopens a week later

4 games into the season so been near the bottom of the table means nothing. We won't get nowhere near 10 million for Gradel and they aren't guna let him go now cause we've no replacement (dont go on bout Nunez, he's shown flashes but hasn't proved he can be as consistent as Gradel). Couple of players in and we'll be fine.

Gradel will definitely be sold however i suspect the fee will be close to £4-£5 million, lets face it this has been on the cards all summer. Leeds haven't offered Gradel a new contract to refuse or turn down, unfortunately we are simply cashing in on one of the few players Leeds have that would attract a sizable fee. There wont be any significant signings coming in before deadline day, any new players arriving at ER will be loanees once premier league teams have decided on their squads. All too predictable with dare i say inevitable results.
Agree Nunez isn't a replacement for Gradel however I a sure that will be the spin from Grayson. Dont agree with the view that a couple of players in will see us fine. Our defence is no better this season than last and central midfield is threadbare. With Becchio fit i think Leeds have a good first 11, a couple of injuries in midfield or defence and we have no back up at all or will be relying on players that just are not good enough.

Answer: The squad isn't big enough meaning the same 11/12 players are flogged to death from August to January without a break. By February Leeds top first 11 are running on fumes, by March running on empty.

Would support selling Gradel if it fixed this problem, unfortunately it wont. Graysons answer will be to bring in 2/3 players on loan next month and a couple more loanees next March. Hasn't worked before, wont work this time either.

Leeds should have sorted Gradel situation out in pre season i.e. new contract or sell. The reason they didn't is they always intended to cash in on Gradel (therefore a new contract a non starter) however if Leeds had sold Gradel in the summer it would have been really difficult for the club to to justify the sale without reinvesting the proceeds on the playing squad.

With Leeds likely to lose Gradel we should move quickly and get Stephen Quinn and Nick montgomery in quinn as been man of the match in all Sheff Utds games and would give us that extra quality we will need and montgomery will make us more of a solid unit regarding defenders i would like to see stephen kelly or eric liachj brought in and maybe danny wilson at liverpool on loan.

Graysons comments in Saturdays YEP said his squad team strengtheing was just about done, so dont expect an influx of new faces, even if Gradel does go

Did anyone say from Leeds that Hargreaves is a target?

I don't think I have ever been as disppointed in our (lack of) signings this summer. Granted Becchio and Somma will be like the proverbial "new signings" (wait for Papa Smurf to roll that one out), but at this moment I'd snatch mid-table mediocrity out of your hands come May. Little faith? Maybe? Moron? I've been called worse.

Hargreaves may not have been designated an official Leeds target but he's a player we should be in for. His availability should alert Grayson because of his quality and as for the "official target" side of things technically no-one is because Leeds have long held a policy that they don't name their targets.

We supposedly spent £1.5million for Ross McCormack last summer, could be finally coming good now, thank god.
