Read on the Internet that the only reason that Bates never invests any money was that the administrators put a clause in his contract. This clause was supposed to state that if Leeds were promoted into the premiership in the next 5 years that Bates would have a large amount of money to pay to the administrators. It has been five years since Leeds went into administration and the Daily Mail said that Warnock will have a "large sum of money to spend this summer."

Believable21 Unbelievable10

Heard this all before, surely this sum of money would be more than the 60 plus millions he would receive for getting Leeds to the premier league, are you really saying that he purposely isn't trying to get to the best league in the world?!

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sure that the amount to be paid to creditors was £5mn and it would be paid if Leeds were promoted before 2017. No reason not to get in Premiership.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the second poster, yes that probably is the case, Bates is very shrewd in business and he knows that if and when we get to the premier it will take a lot of money to assemble a squad good enough to survive there, why pay out a large portion of the 60 mil when you don't have to, after all it's better to have the 60 mil than loose half of it paying off debt, better players come with bigger price tags and higher wages and the rest of the money will hopefully be invested in the club to make us more viable in the future. And if Bates intends to cash in then it would make us more attractive to potential buyers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are these people only crawling out from under a rock that they've been hiding under for the duration of the Leeds post premiership era. This is brought up as often as the Alan smith rumour. Good god

Agree0 Disagree0

We went into an CVA company voluntary arrangement exactly like IVA we paid a percentage of ridsdales debt I think it was 28 pence for every pound we owed including interest. However it was stipulated that if Leeds were to gain promotion within five years we would have to pay the remaining difference back. KB will not want to make Leeds debt free get promoted and then have to give it stadiums to previous creditors fact. This year is the five years up

Agree0 Disagree0

Posted this before on a similar post before. The sum of money due to creditors is £4.75m if Leeds are promoted to the Premiership within 10 years of the date of administration - as the 2nd reply says that is 2017. This is only about 15% of a conservative estimate of the income for 1st season in the Premiership.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just to add to this again, I posted a similar rumour about this about a week or two ago.

The 5 year date was the first proposed date when the deal was being worked out, but it was extended to 10 years when the deal was finalised.

Just a case of reading one set of news stories and not what happened a few weeks later I'm afraid, I made this mistake too.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we got promoted to the premier league within 5 seasons of going into administration in 2006-7 we would have had to pay 50p in the £ which would have cost us 35 million if we are promoted now in the next 5 seasons it is reduced to 10p in the pound which is 7.5 million. Nice move from bates

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that 60 mill you mention is paid in well spaced stages

Agree0 Disagree0

CVA operate on a four year basis mate not ten so that rubbish. You cannot be held on a paid debt within an arrangement either way after the four years is up or within five years of it's completion.

Agree0 Disagree0

The £4.75m up to 2017 is absolutely correct. Its in the accounts for year ending 30 June 2011 (Note 19)
There is a further £0.875m potentially due on transfer of player registrations.

Agree0 Disagree0

In that case, considering that for just being in the Premier League you get about £45 million in TV revenue, paying back £5 million to the creditors is no big deal really

Agree0 Disagree0

But the repayment of 50p in the pound is not. You cannot have liabilities tied into the IVA after the four year period is up, so old grey beard wiped out 30 million of the live the dream era in one go. 10 pence is nothing for 90.000.000 if you include tv revenue sky money parachute payments etc.

Like I has said in the past we all stag him off but we are built of solid foundations for the future debt free, operating on a profit, third biggest city in the land. Question what do you think ken will do when we are promoted??? Russian cones to mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mmm very good debate, enjoyed reading these comments. Very intelligent points of views and probably facts too.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like to see some FACTUAL evidence about all this, there are so many rumours, and so much hearsay around.

At the end of the day Bates isn't an person and I'd rather him not pay anything more out than we need, as long as it makes financial sense?

Agree0 Disagree0

Read about iva/cva mate quite straight forward. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone who think's bates didnt want us to get us promoted because it would cost us 5m is an absolute idiot. Getting promoted to the premiership one season earlier would bring in more revenue in increased ticket sales alone that season than that figure. It's time to wake up and smell the bacon and stop all this Bates conspiracy theory nonsense

Nahki wells striker from bradford ive heard from my mate who is a season ticket holder at bradford he was saying that leeds scouts have been to watch him on a number of a occasions?

Believable10 Unbelievable13

Apparently he is really good they were saying on the yorkshire monday night football, but i must admit ive never seen him play myself. Anyone know how good he is?

Agree0 Disagree0

He can't be that good if Bradford are struggling to stay in the football league

Jordan Rhodes might be the mystery buy if the hudders dont get promotion

Believable10 Unbelievable36

On paper that would be a great signing, but remember Paynter was prolific in L1 and look at him, on the other hand look at Le Fondre!
Not sure another forward is what we need most, we need defenders!
Saw a rumour about Upson leaving Stoke, he would be the calibar of player we are looking at!

Agree0 Disagree0

With every other club in league one, championship and many in premiership all wanting him i really doubt he would come to a local rival

Agree0 Disagree0

Although I expect there to be wholesale changes this summer, I think you are dillusional if you think we will suddenly start spending huge sums of money on players, it just aint gonna happen, I can see it now everyone will be hugely dissapointed come july when they see how little we will spend.

I expect us to attract a slightly higher calibre player now that Warnock is here, however I still expect these to be largely freebies and small undisclosed amounts, we need to clear rhe wage bill first and foremost so dont get ahead of yourselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's obvious it's a league one player as he's due to sign the day after the end of the league one season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted reply one, and I must say I agree with reply three.
I mentioned Upson as asomething I heard and he would be free, but I fully agree!

Agree0 Disagree0

We're already spending huge sums of money - its on the carp players' wages!

Offload 10 more players and there'll be plenty of cash to play with.

check this out for a blast from the past

Tony Yeboah - Leeds United Goals - All 32
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF3UzRxd3a0

Believable8 Unbelievable10

He's not played under Warmock and would be available on a free... 1st signing?

Agree0 Disagree0

I loved yeboah,he played wth a velcro ball...amazing

Agree0 Disagree0

I've not seen the video, but out of interest, have the people who disagreed done so because it isn't a link to the video it says it is, or because it doesn't have all 32 goals?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Jesus....Tony had legs like kebabs....
When he connected with a shot it virtually lifted the goal up out of the ground... the ball also had to be replaced. He was a cartoon character of boys football magazine, like hot shot hammish. born on the 6/6/66,,,, he was a nutter and an enigma and I loved him for playing for Leeds with a passion and desire but without a care in the world... He just wanted all 10 nominations for goal of the season... I d sign balotelli.... He comes from that same cloth.... both effortless genius.

Leeds reportedly looking at Jason Pearce, Sol Bamba, Paddy Kenny and Paul Green along two other big players

Source: Daily Mirror

Believable20 Unbelievable4

Two other big players? and you feel the other 4 are big players? please!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hear that the Jason Pearse deal is done 750k

Agree0 Disagree0

Apart from Kenny do any of these players have any premier league experience? I'd like at least two CB that know what is expected from them in the premier league, we have good young players with potential but we need some old heads (not Michael past it brown) to help them develop

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you forgetting that we are in the championship whoever wrote the reply above! We need top notch championship players, not cast off, past it premiership players. Sol Bamba has world cup and ACoN experience. And tell me how many of the players in the Norwich and Swansea team had premiership experience. Jason Pearce has been linked with loads of championship teams this season including Reading and Southampton.

Darren Ambrose from C. Palace. Good player and scores goals from midfield.
Bradley Wright-Phillips from Charlton.
Scores for fun and gives the pace up front that Leeds need

Believable26 Unbelievable6

BWP would be a top signing, something we've lacked since Beckford & Gradel is out and out pace... Along with Webber & White we'd have a genuine threat

Agree0 Disagree0

Phillips wont join varlton are a championship side next year i think he will stay there

Agree0 Disagree0

True, but Mackail Smith left Peterborough for Brighton when they went up.

Luke Chamber (out of contract at end of season) would be a great signing and prove we mean business!

Believable17 Unbelievable5

CB playing for side close to relegation.....how good is he, are any other clubs queueing up for him?

The first signing early May will be Jason Pearce, the centre back from Portsmouth,

Believable25 Unbelievable2

My mate is a pompey fan and said Jason pearce is very likely to leave in the summer as he is one of their best players and highest earners
