Leeds are competing with Millwall for the signature of Owen Garvan.

Believable30 Unbelievable42

I'd take him anyday good championship player with potential aswell

You'd think he'd choose us over Millwall considering the way Holloway treated him at Palace

Looking at the YEP this morning it doesn't look like any signings will be made til the takeover is complete, apparently it was GFH who blocked Barnes from coming to Leeds last week.

Agree1 Disagree1

Well seeing as The Mighty Huddersfield and The Mighty Burnley have wiped our eye in the last week with Wells and Barnes I wouldn't hold out much hope of competing against the Mighty Milwall. When do either of those three clubs have home gates exceeding 30,000 like we do but players are still signing for them instead of us?

Agree1 Disagree0

In relaity there should be NO competeition between us and Millwall for a signing but I am not surpirsed.

Takeover to be complete b4 Saturdays game.work will begin next week on transfer targets.
Le fondre, mills and garvan in
Varney, Norris will go

Believable51 Unbelievable48

Please yes. They are good players.

Agree1 Disagree0

Why will work begin next week after takeover? Haigh said McDermott got funds now and new owners already funding us

Agree2 Disagree1

Exactly pal, I'm starting to think we are having the wool pulled over our eyes again.

Agree3 Disagree0

It's been the same spin for the last three windows and all we end up with are loanees, free transfers, and unattached players signing

Agree1 Disagree1

Have we got the funds though? GFH blocked the Barnes move according to the YEP. Why? Why would they want to stick their oar in. We were apparently looking to pay 500K, but this got blocked.

Agree1 Disagree1

What takeover though? There is talk of a new takeover every week!!

Agree1 Disagree0

In the meantime all of (supporters) us are expected to carry on as normal. Trading on our loyalty. One day if there’s a buck to be made Elland Road will be an Out of Town Shopping Centre, Hotel and Restaurants. Then we’ll all be put out of our misery. MOT.

I heard we're interested in Marvin Emnes. He's only 25, decent signing if you ask me!

Believable22 Unbelievable42

He would be good, but I think Brian McDermott should concentrate on getting us a good keeper first.

Agree1 Disagree6

Matt Smith is suspended so for the next 3 matches we have McCormack and then it's probably Varney who can play up front. We need a striker

Agree2 Disagree0

Oh yeh.and our keeper is the problem. no chance

It's some defenders and midfielders we need our keeper is least of our worries this season

Agree3 Disagree1

Would be a decent signing. He's better than Smith, Hunt and Varney combined. Agree with first poster though, we could do with another goalkeeper and maybe a commanding centre back.

Agree1 Disagree2

Need to be going for lewis grabban at bournemouth

Agree2 Disagree0

He is at boro isn't he?

Why don't they want him?

That's my question

ExCroggywhite

Agree1 Disagree0

19 appearances 1 goal for Emnes. Why do you think Boro are desperate to sign a striker?

Agree1 Disagree1

Paddy's doing ok to be fair, only player that turned up at Rochdale, could have been a whole lot more humiliating if he hadn't & every decent keeper needs something which we haven't got to help him.a defence.

Agree1 Disagree3

Agree with post 5 we should go for grabban, he has pace and strength and has 9 more goals this season

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - going to Brighton apparently}

ALF rumours back on and Matt Smith connected to Palace.

Any thoughts?

Believable28 Unbelievable64

ALF - Again! Matt Smith - Why?

Agree1 Disagree0

If that's true, I'll personally drive Smith to palace!

Agree1 Disagree5

Smith will be a long term asset to us. We havnt seen the best of him yet.

Agree4 Disagree1

Is that Blenheim Palace wanting him as an artificial tree?

Agree2 Disagree2

15 Jan 2014 11:47:04
Smith is not premier league class.

Agree4 Disagree0

Drive smith to Palace and pick up ALF on the way back.

Not bad for a days work.

Saying that, if Smith ended up with Pulis, he'd probably turn into the next Peter Crouch.

Agree4 Disagree1

Why would you drive smith to palace when without a few of his goals we wouldn't be where we were today?!?!? some of his goals have got us valueble points? there's only smith and mc cormack that know where the net is

Agree4 Disagree1

Matt Smith is doing great! in a team that can not cross the ball not even from a corner poor service so far! give him some service from some decent wing play and he will get a lot more goals WE DON'T WANT TO SELL A PLAYER THAT IS ONLY GETTING BETTER AND BETTER THE MORE GAME TIME HE GETS!

I'd rather offload hunt and varney, smith for me is more useful off the bench, against a tired back 4 his height does well to open space by drawing 2 defenders to him.

Would be more than happy with mac and alf starting upfront though

Agree7 Disagree0

I struggle to see why people dislike Smith so much, He is never going to win us the league but he is a really handy player to have, might be a bit clumsy and frustrating on the ball but he is a handful for many defenders, chipped in with a few goals aswell.

Agree2 Disagree0

If we can get anything more than a pint of lager and a packet of crisps for Smith I'd bite Palace's hand off, we could throw half the squad in as well as a goodwill guesture and thank you for them taking Smith off our hands.

Agree1 Disagree7

Why all the hate for Smith? He's had to make a step up to the championship, after only playing professionally for a few years. Despite this he has gotten us 7 goals is it?

Agree4 Disagree2

You can not blame the strikers if the midfield can not trap the ball/keep the ball/ cross or even pass the ball up to the strikers as shown against Wednesday, sell smith and we are in a bigger mess, he is a real handfull for any defense he has scored against prem teams and prem defenders and will come good! as he is showing the more game time he gets MOT

Agree2 Disagree0

Need better players than Smith. He had some shockers this season. Only in the side due to his height.

Agree1 Disagree3

Matt smiths return, is 7 league gaols in 22 appearances. that isn't a bad return. If he continues in the same form he will probably get 13-16 goals this season. That coupled with R-Macs projected total of about 27-32 is a good return for our strikers.

I do think we need the mid-field to chip in a little but that will come with the Kebe and Cameron signings.

I don't see why we would sell him, unless we make a good return.

all in all if we get ALF I think our striker force should be R-Mac, Smith, ALF and Poleon.

With Walters getting some exposure. Hunt and Varney need to move on.

Agree3 Disagree0

All the people saying matt smith will get better and better are correct he will but that's not hard baring in mind he is a terrible player now. he doest win enough in the air he has a 50p head. always offside and runs like his laces are tied together. purely looking at statistics and saying well he has 7 goals isn't enough. go to the games and watch him he useless

Agree1 Disagree2

Smith is in the mould of Lee Chapman but better with his feet, Chapman was getting 32 goals a season but being feed with balls from a great midfield and decent wing play, He missed loads and scored loads he was getting feed all the time, Smith will score more now we have wingers and is getting some DECENT supply at last!, 7 goals with the poor crosses and lack of chances is not bad, the balls coming from the wings at present my granny could catch! let alone a decent keeper and they can't even beat the first man at present with the corners so all and all 7 goals is not so bad prem teams don't target useless players! we all want better but Peter Crouch will not come to leeds at present! and Smith wants to do well for LUFC SO let's SUPPORT WHAT WE HAVE! MOT

Agree4 Disagree0

I really don't understand the haters. He is not a terrible player at all, like people have said service is terrible for him, He is a relatively inexperienced player, but is always getting better, He hasn't started every game, but has gotten 7 goals, and also people seem to forget he is the only other person scoring at the minute, and they want to get rid of him, a little shortsighted if you ask me.

Agree4 Disagree0

It's not that he's a terrible player, I just think he was built up to be a great goalscorer and we just use him as a targetman all the time without really giving him many other options, other than now being able to whip it in from the wings.

If palace want him, I reckon we should loan him out to them. In the meantime, chase this Griffiths lad from Wolves and Adam LeFondre to bolster our goalscoring options, because if McCormack got injured I honestly think we'd be in trouble. Also, start to shape a solid back line and we'll start smashing the league apart.

Roundhay White

Agree1 Disagree1

If the second half of the season goes how the first did, Smith & McCormack will have got 40 goals between them which is a very good return in my book. If your strikers average nearly a goal a game over the season it's not strikers you should be looking at changing to improve the starting XI

Seems everyone who scores goals or used to score goals for us is rubbish if you listen to some of numpties on here. forgive me if I've got the aim of the game wrong BUT isn't the name of the game to score goals!? Which no names mentioned for fear of rudicule from the numpties on here. if you know who came back and carried on where he left off wouldn't that be a good thing!? Or should I keep my mouth shut and leave it to the know it all numpties. just sayin.

Agree0 Disagree1

It will be nice to see what smith can do now we have some out and out wingers who can hopefully supply him some good crosses instead of long balls from Kenny/lees

Agree1 Disagree0

How can u all start having a go at smith he's had a brilliant attitude being on the bench most games not complained and got us 7 goals every chance he could have been our leading goal scorer if he had the amount of playing time every 1 else has had! Give the lad a break he's young and hungry to do well. No wonder players go else where when fans turn on them so easy! MOT

Agree2 Disagree0

Nothing against Smith, very likeable lad, refreshingly intelligent and articulate, and a whole-hearted player, but I think he has limited potential. I would have thought he will settle down to have a decent career as a mid-Championship player. I honestly do not see him as a promotion player, and am gobsmacked by the interest from the Prem (even if it's only Palace!). Young and inexperienced does not necessarily equate to 'future star.' The Lee Chapman comparisons are wishful thinking (by Smith's age, Chapman had already had a big money move to Arsenal, by the way). One of our better performers this season -but again, that means nothing! Personally, if the price was right, I would be happy to trade. Sorry, but it's a ruthless business. Chapel A

Agree2 Disagree1

Smith has improved a lot since the start of the season, he's a good bully to have and it takes two players to challenge him in the air. Get off his back and give the lad some confidence.

Agree1 Disagree0

We could have Ronaldo and Messi up front and they would struggle with the service our midfield provides.
I don't think Smith is any worse than a certain Lee Chapman, who was a similar type. Only difference is he had Sterland and Dorigo bombing down the wings providing decent service in the box. One time we did it for Smith was 2nd half against Watford and he caused them loads of problems so maybe best to reserve judgment till we do provide that service.

Agree1 Disagree0

Have to agree Smith is improving slightly but OMG how can a player 6ft 7" push a deffender in the back EVERYTIME he jumps?
He gives more fouls away than anyone I know and thus possesion.

SORRY NOT A SMITH FAN AT ALL ;(

DUBAI (Reuters) - Bahrain-based investment firm Gulf Finance House (GFH) has agreed a partial sale of its stake in English football club Leeds United, the firm said in a statement on Wednesday.

GFH said the sale was agreed with British investors, whose details the firm did not specify in a bourse statement. The investment firm did not provide details on the stake value or the size of the stake sold.

GFH bought Leeds United in December 2012 through its Dubai-based subsidiary, GFH Capital, but its financial statements showed that the firm disposed off more than half of its holding less than six months later.

The reports are about an increase in share price which could be due to the 'imminent' takeover as opposed to news about the takeover being completed.

Hopefully it means the takeover is pretty much done though

Agree1 Disagree0

It's only the Football League that's holding it up. The papers have been lodged for weeks so this announcement means nothing

Agree2 Disagree1

If it's being delayed while waiting for the football league, don't hold your breath they don't like us, in fact they hate us

Agree2 Disagree0

Yes the FL will no doubt delay it until after the Jan transfer window has closed. MOT
