I know 442 isn't a popular formation but could see it working for us if Bamford partnered either Rodrigo or Rutter. Paddy to win the ball and hold it up to feed the better strikers. But then again if I knew what I was doing I'd be a manager?.

No. Bamford gone. His boat has sailed.
Don’t mind 442 with a good 4 and 2.
So a good 4 we got but a good 2 not.

PB seems a nice guy but agree with Aus

No problem with 442 and be good to see Rutter and Rodrigo when he’s fit but happily play Gnonto with Rutter. Big centre halves happy dealing with Paddy and his glass ankles where not so keen with Willy and his quick feet.

Said it recently we need to go 4 4 2 like the Revie team.
With a left winger who can defend as one of the 4
Then two central holding
The right sided player able to get up and down more like a wing back
Then two up top with one of these able to drop back into midfield

We are too soft . Too cavalier, we are naive .
Still look like we are trying to outscore teams 6 - 5
Way too easy to score against
Especially away from home, it should be shut up shop
We blow ourselves out running around frantically
Then when we tire a little, other teams just pick us off

Think we have enough to get get 15 or 16 more points
Dont know if that will be enough
Its just down to how many the others can pick up
And if the new manager can get us going a bit better.

Playing a 442 would be fine if we changed our game to a counter attack set up, but because we play more possession based football we would be overrun in midfield. Takes a lot of discipline and organization to play a 442, something we are lacking.
Not for me.
Bamford, did his boat ever sail out the harbour.?
There are benefits with Bam but sadly his problem is that he is injured too often and needs too many chances to score.
It does get difficult to justify his continuation with the club as time goes by.
Nothing would please me more though than him proving us wrong with a purple patch for the run in.

O p, heaven forbid we got overun in midfield, with those bastions of the midfield we currently employ .

Jesus they were all woeful Tuesday, come to think of it, our midfield is urine all season, so where your worry on a hypothetical scenario based on the 442 system stems from seems strange, in lieu of the fact that our midfield is she-ite anyway .

So IMO something's got to change as we even struggle against the worse teams in league as we are, so let's try something different as this is clearly not working

Have a peek at table to confirm the above ??.

Spot on Christopher.

Always thought Sinisterra could be an option playing off a number 9 as he knows how to finish. Shame he’s always hurt!

Chris 442 is a formation that Gracia likes to operate with but I can’t see him making such a drastic change. However I can see him perhaps continuing with the formation used against Fulham with a 433, thought we played it quite well, just was a bit unlucky in not scoring. Playing Bamford up top I feel could be the change that he might peruse. The Rutter, Summerville and Gnonto attack line with midfield of McKennie, Adams and Rocca looks more solid and offensive.
The thing he needs to work on is the pace, to make it a tad less frenetic it’s no surprise our passing is so array
I just want to see more fluid play rather than headless chickens on amphetamines.

I do agree the 433 was better than the 4231, but again these are formations we have used and ultimately to hardly any avail OP.

Chelsea is another where we ain't expecting all 3 points, hence why not adapt the 442 for that 1 and see how it plays out, ?

Who knows, . it could actually work, but then as you say it might not, but surely it's worth a punt .

442's are surely the least technical formation around, so it's hardly going to take a lot of understanding from team to adapt to it . Hence negating the mid overrun you spoke of.
