Ratings put of 10 for the Jan window?

I'm going for 7. The players we brought in show intent but given Orta's track record there is a bit of a worry around whether they will be good enough for the EPL and if they will be able to adapt. In addition we really should have brought in a LB or another quality CB. Huge improvement on recent windows though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I will go 5. It could go to 8 but there is a lot of ifs to see. Wober continues to shore up the defence, Weston stops the counters and Rutter nets 10. Then it will be an 8.
But the glaring mistake of not another left back and centre back could cost us.
Let’s not forget Kev tried the no defence strategy l.

10 Could have been previous windows. Up to the manager and players now to make this work. Nobody can blame the owners again.

01 Feb 2023 11:01:03
7.5 think the LB issue should have been fixed, maybe they’re thinking Dallas in there once he’s fit again?

Having said that, I would of said 4/ 5 when we signed Willy, but you’d say 8.5 for him currently, so maybe a truer picture will emerge after three or four games, which includes the games against Florists and Toffees that we must win.

01 Feb 2023 11:16:21
Wrong Chippenham . its been a decent to. good window but the owners are still far, far, far from blameless

1) the owners needed to bring these type of players much earlier than this window ( last summer or better still last season) .

2) the owners still haven't bought even one competent defensive specialist LB for several windows. NOT gash Firpo . negligence of the highest order

3) the owners are negligently sticking with a tactically inept coach in JM who simply can't buy a win in the. EPL

If club is ( more than feasible ) R this season it will be significantly down to the board as well as JM.

01 Feb 2023 11:21:29
Still far from confident Leeds won't go. down. teams around. us have strengthened too.

01 Feb 2023 12:08:36
Baz I’m not sure about they should have bought these players in the summer or even a year ago. We have no idea of what is or was the financial restraints, FFP or whether the targets were even available. We are only presuming they didn’t want to spend. There are no Leeds fans who are privy to this kind of information, you are only making pure speculation.
I’m just happy that they have spent in this window when historically we don’t.

01 Feb 2023 12:38:43
OP yes FFP permitting ofc

But this window outlay ( £40 million approx) isn't that much though compared to other clubs spending
2 signings
1 loan out
1 1oan in

Still believe these type of signings and outlay were affordable and feasible much earlier by the board

Feels like the horse may have already bolted. we definitely remain in R peril.

Good posts in this thread. Easily best ever January window for LUFC. Gets a 9 rating from me. We could do with a LB but every team in bottom half of table has a weakness. Ours is at LB. Having only this weakness at this point should not equate to R battle. With the strengthening, I'm expecting a 12th place finish in accordance with my original start of season prediction.

01 Feb 2023 13:22:11
George LB is not our only weakness. Wober aside our defenders are ok to not good . we also only have 6 defenders now . lacking in depth.

01 Feb 2023 13:24:24
How does no pl experience get a 9?

01 Feb 2023 14:46:07
Baz My rating and explanation is specifically in context of an R battle (which is how the window should be assessed) . Ayling is at best an average defender but still decent going forward. Koch has shown improvement. If I was to tell you start of the year we'd buy Wober (who we've seen is a classy operator at this high level) , Rutter a £35M forward (has already shown his potential and class) , an American international who has played 100 games for Juve with CL experience and a young Portuguese international defender (captain of that youth set up and by all accounts reminiscent of a Ben White) who apparently will be challenging for a place on first team bench some time in March and getting shot of inadequate Llorente with a chance of a fee, your reaction at that time would've been where do I sign?
We are a defender light, Koch must continue to improve but examined in context of an R battle we now have sufficient quality to pull away. Other teams around us also bought but I maintain we did well. Pressure is therefore on Marsch but leveling criticism at the board at this juncture is plain wrong and a touch ungrateful. I applaud their investment. Acquisition of Weston a real coup given our league position. Hopefully in the summer we upgrade the defence. For right now, I am very confident we pull away from the R zone.

01 Feb 2023 14:48:17
That's right Aus. We should've gone for VVD and Thiago Silva.

01 Feb 2023 15:12:41
Best window in years get behind the boys n jesse now starting at forest Sunday mot firpo will come good u see I was sat right behind mez seconds half's against Cardiff he could do with being more vocal it would help himself and team massively he see s all pitch mot to all.

01 Feb 2023 15:43:39
George fair dos a good well reasoned reply ?.

01 Feb 2023 15:55:04
Thanks Baz.

Is there a “slap my forehead very aggressively “ emoji?
Some people will never be happy, nor placated even. Surely some positives can be taken from this window Baz? ? Please? Please?
If you’re a vet who is constantly shoulder deep in cow anus, then say so. We would understand bro! Or a collector of elephant dung in the search of fungal issues?
We could understand your life perspective!
This has been a good window? No?

01 Feb 2023 21:23:08
9/10 for me.

01 Feb 2023 21:23:32
Time will obviously tell though.

01 Feb 2023 22:24:30
Lol Brighty IF you actually ever read carefully you will note I stated 'this has been a GOOD window '.

That most certainly doesn't erase previous disappointing windows. Leeds United team / squad is playing catch up in where it should be by now.

Baz - that these signings were not made in the summer could be down to a number of factors.

Firstly finance, which has been covered ad nauseum on here, secondly player availability, thirdly to phase the turnover of players and thereby help maintain the dressing room spirit. Fourthly the give upcoming talent opportunities to show whether they were yet ready to step up.

Weston McKennie would not have come here in the summer, but having now spent half the season here, Adams and Aaronson were able to sell the move to him. Red Bull Salzburg would not have sold three players, and particularly not including Wöber their captain, to us in the one window - while evidently not a specialist LB, Max could in time prove our most important acquisition from them. Hoffenheim were not willing to sell Rutter in the summer - he looks like he could be well worth waiting for. Players who are equally adept with both feet, are quite rare, and when you add his pace, dribbling ability, quality of passing, strength and hold-up play, positional sense, willingness to press and cover back and heading ability - he could prove to be an absolute handful for even the top Prem teams. He is also said to be a decent finisher.

As for sticking with Marsch - it’s helped bring in Wöber and McKennie, and will be hoped that giving him every chance to succeed will help keep them Adams and Aaronson on board if he does actually get moved on in due course. That in turn may help attract and retain a greater share of the emerging US ‘soccer’ fandom in the lead up to World Cup 2026 in the US (with Canada and Mexico) - which would certainly help fund future transfers and stadium development etc. There is actually a strong logic in sticking with him as long as possible. Additionally, as said previously, it may also prove the difference maker in whether the Club will be able to attract whoever is the top choice when a change is actually made. If they’re not convinced they will be given time, they’re far less likely to come.

Clu good post and points well made .

I did in my posts state recruitment of " these types of players '

not necessarily Rutter, Wober and McKennie due to ( lack of ) availability in Summer

but other similar type of players who were available.

02 Feb 2023 07:17:56
Indeed Baz, but that is where the other factors I mentioned also come into play - and the squad harmony elements re turnover and opportunities may be particularly key here - and may have influenced why recruitment was delayed in the areas now addressed.

02 Feb 2023 08:48:07
Soz Baz. My brain has now been trained to only see negatives in your posts, and I’m blind to positive words you may use in error! (Joking. yes, I missed that bit! ?)
