Someone was mentioning that James may come good with a run in his preferred position however with Marches setups there is little room for out and out wingers. With 4-2-2-2 or 4-2-3-1 the AMs seem to be filled or at least moving that way with Aaronsen onboard and strong talk of Minamino (or similar) Even today another name it seems we have been after, Roca? I cannot see room for anyone who is not 100% comfortable with playing narrow.
Not only James but I fear for the progress of Jimmy and young Gray. Unless they can adapt.

Roca is a deep lying playmaker who, like KP, thrives on spreading the play - suggesting Marsch may be open to using greater width. Klopp uses 4231 much of the time, and you can’t say Liverpool don’t use wingers - yes, they often come inside, but they often start out wide. To date, Minamino has played far more frequently across the front line than at AM. Even with Japan, for whom he started out at AM, he has played there in just 3 of his last 18 games with 13 being on the left wing, and 2 as centre forward. It was also interesting to read this evening that in recent interview about his role within the US team, Aaronson said that he enjoyed playing in a box to box role, and envisioned himself playing more frequently at 8 in the future. So it may be that Marsch looks to mix things up a bit, and early assumptions about his system, and how various players will or will not fit within it, may not necessarily be correct. They could of course be completely correct, but only time will tell.

Excellent post as always Cluey,
Jesse has spoken previously that the 422 ‘narrow’ is more about when the team do not have the ball. And how they hunt in small packs rather than designated man for man marking.
Like Liverpool the system places greater emphasis on the full backs to provide the creative width, (hence Rasmussen signing) however, Out of Salah, Mane, jota two always set up wide.

Someone to play along side phillips, with Aaronson attacking mid with wingers like Raph or James or Harrison, maybe summerville or greenwood to get more game time another left back and some competition up front . We don’t know what’s going to happen with bamford and his fitness.
