Just a thought, but if under Jesse we are going to play narrower with I’d guess skilful attacking midfielders rather than wingers. Surely the best option/ options up front would be a fast pacey pair of strikers who play off the shoulder running in behind!
Or that’s more how I see it, therefore where does Paddy fit in now?
Bench?
If I’m honest I don’t see him as a regular starter
I’d love this window to be a statement of intent, with some real surprising signings.
Look at villa, that’s intent, Carlos and Kamara!
I know they’re in a different league financially but that’s 2 statement signings within 5 days of the season ending.
Orta has started strong but this has to be just the start not the marque!

That’s how I think JM likes to set up and play, I don’t see bamford as our first choice striker.

Sweaty 🥵 Think Minamino may be next. As for playing style, JM strikes me as variety spice of life guy and not a one trick 🧛 pony 🐴. Invariably we'll start games narrower but then set up for width later on subject to necessity and opposition. We'll always find some width in transition anyway.

Indeed George. Many pundits, and indeed Leeds United content creators seem fixated on Marsch’s preference for RB style 4222 and keeping play narrow, but even at RB Salzburg he would use other formations, particularly when up against tougher opponents in European competition and, let’s face it, most of the teams faced in the Prem are stronger than the teams he was up against in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Hopefully his 12 match stint this season has shown him that you need to use width to create chances in this league. The only non-negotiable for Marsch would appear to be a high press, counter-pressing style, to turn the ball over quickly - and Liverpool under Klopp (who credits Rangnick for opening his eyes to the power of the high press, but has not adopted the so-called ‘Red Bull’ 4222) show that is very achievable while maintaining width.

That’s an astute, and insightful post George! All of which I agree with!
