Under 23 highlights up already and worth the watch. One more comment on the squad tonight. Missing were, Aappo and Lief Davis in addition to Shackleton and Gotts named on the bench for tomorrow. So I guess that's the travelling squad, Extra cover in defence.

Picking up on your earlier comment re Huffer, the website still shows the latter to be on loan (though the team pages are often out of date, with pictures of players not appearing for months after they've joined - which always strikes me as a little surprising and amateurish for a club of our stature) .

However, my main thought for this reply is prompted by your reference to cover in defence. Reference to the loan page, reminded me of how many defenders we have out with other clubs. Clearly we are very unlikely to see De Bock or Anita again, and surely Shaughnessy would be best deployed in midfield if he does ever wear our shirt again - but which of the others will have any future here. Obviously this is likely to be determined by our league status next year. You have to feel for O'Connor, you can understand him pushing for a loan opportunity this season, but it just has not worked out for him - hard to see him getting ahead of Halme and maybe others in the U23s this year. Of the central defenders, the one I'm intrigued by is Kitching - never seen him play but apparently doing really well with Harrogate Town again this season, and their just 7 points behind leaders the Orient in the National League - not bad for their first ever time in the fifth tier. Any chance he has a future here? If we do go up, Pearce may have a role to play, but what of Coyle and Denton?

Clueless, unfortunately I think we will see Debock and Anita again. Simply because they have not impressed on loan and nobody wants them. Same with Grot, udechi, and whoever else is on loan. The only ones who I think will have interest is coyle, Wilkes, saiz and ekuban. The rest will have to be paid up I’m afraid.

For myself, I hope that Jay-Roy does come back, there's a decent footballer in there somewhere and I think Bub will find him. Dunno about Mr Wilks, he's still got his day in court to come. As for the rest of them, I think they'll be on their way, including Pearce if he's not liking the training 🙂.

I can see Wilks staying if we are in the champ next season. Or a loan to if we are promoted. He’s been scoring in L1 so he has talent.

De Bock and Anita probably won’t play again, Anita never played in his best position and could be a good backup for Phillips.

I rate Coyle, he’s been playing well and could fill in at TB if Ayling is injured. Think Bielsa sees Beradi as more of a CB so would need cover at RB anyway

Denton will end up playing for his Landlords Sunday league team.

Slough, when I said we would not see De Bock and Anita, I should have clarified that I meant see them in a Leeds shirt in a competitive game. I would not be surprised to see them turn up for pre-season, given that they're unlikely to attract much interest - as you seem to be suggesting, Rad might try to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement to cancel their contracts - likewise with O'Kane.

Like AL, I'd actually like to see Grot come back - and not just so that we can have Grot and Bogusz on the same teamsheet. I also think there's a decent footballer in there, with the right encouragement and support - particularly if fans can live up to that name and resist the temptation to get on his back if he goes through a tough patch. I can never understand when so called fans start slagging of their own players (particularly new/ younger players trying to establish themselves in the squad) - how is that going to help the team? Leave it to the management in private if any criticism is truly merited.

I'd also actually like to see Ideguchi back, particularly if we are promoted - as he's proved with Japan that he can play at a higher level when given a chance, though he may not be best suited for the Championship. I also would not mind seeing Cibicki return, though I suspect he will find suiters in Sweden following his upcoming loan. Pity Sako seems to continue struggling to find end product - as many have said before, he'd be some prospect if he could.

Anita was one of the worst players I’ve seen in a Leeds shirt.

12 Mar 2019 13:06:48
strange how easily you forget players like De Bock when they are away from the club. can't see Denton or Coyle playing for Leeds again regardless of division (unless we go down) - just not good enough.

12 Mar 2019 13:23:29
Agree re Grot AL. definitely a footballer there, and if he can find his scoring boots, would fit right in to Bielsa’s style of playing, plus give us the added dimension of extra height. De Bock started his time with us really well, but then totally fell off form. And Anita just never recreated the class he showed at Newcastle, and doubt he ever will!

harsh on anita.

got promted to prem league, then played out of position for us and in a poor leeds team.

looking at what bub has done with our other players i think he could get something from anita maybe same with grot but the rest for me can go.

I’m sure Bielsa will have someone in his team or himself will be keeping a close visual eye on the loanees, just as he did before he came to us. He will have an intial view of each person based on ability and attitude and I’m sure that will be adjusted to take into account any improvement and the level it’s achieved at. So some of those will be given the chance to show what they can do in the summer, the others will be let go in some shape or form. I would expect that side of our affairs for next year to be wrapped up quickly when the season ends and the players at least made clear on where they sit.

It is certainly a dilemma as for every loan player with a question mark there is an emerging U23 player who excites. You can't play them all.

12 Mar 2019 17:18:18
Brightwhite didn’t someone buy those for the future.

12 Mar 2019 19:18:20
Whiteman do you mean Aaapo Halme, Lief Davis, Ryan Edmondson, Jordan Stevens? You’re right, bad planning, we bought them for the future and we’re playing them now! And the Bulgarian and the pole, we bought them for the under 18s and we’ve been forced to play them in the under 23s. Terrible! All the others we bought as part of a cunning plan to help or hinder other clubs!

12 Mar 2019 20:54:29
Maybe we're going to emulate Chelsea and have upwards of 40 players out on loan :)

Spanishleeds thanks for pointing that out, and righ as always.
