Afternoon guys, didn’t travel to Watford but watched most of the game. Another strong performance by the team. Almost matched the seniors 4 goals and will probably think they should have done with Bogusz hitting the post and other good chances. For me it’s the way he has fitted into the team, this was his second game and he’s pulling the strings and full of confidence. Brown played and influenced the game throughout as well scoring a great goal and having other attempts. Struick got another goal and played well at the back again, he has really found form and confidence in recent games. All the usual suspects played, Shackleton got a run out as did Gotts. Edmondson led the line until swapped for Kun who promptly scored.

You have to say all looks rosy with the under 23 set up and the way we use it in itself to develop a team but also to support the first team strategy.

This group now leads it’s league by 8 points with a game in hand. I know there is some talk about transfer targets for the first team but I should also imagine that there is a plan for who in this team will make the grade and move into the first team squad for next year depending on what league we are playing in.

Another word for Carlos Corberan. The success of the under 23s shows his ability as coach and motivator. You can also see that with his work on match days with Bielsa. The guy is putting in a great shift, every game with both groups of players! At the recent game against Newcastle, the Newcastle players were out warming up on the pitch and he had all the players sat in the club room by the pitch going through his last minute guidance and motivation. Bielsa always comes with his own built in support team but he inediately included Corberan and you can see him with Corberan as a sub goes onto the pitch. Another good appointment by the club and should be a definite part of the future.

The only problem I can see is keeping everyone happy, I think the majority of the U23s are good enough to play in the Championship and far better than half the players in other Championship teams. The system really seems to be working and surely the envy of many clubs.

Meant to say 8 point lead over Birmingham who have a game in hand. Spy, that’s why the planning going on at the moment must be interesting, what do we need for the premiership or for another crack at the championship.

If it was the championship, then I think we have a very good squad of players that needs topping up with the truely star quality that would make the difference. If it’s the premiership it’s a very different call and perhaps some of this current bunch of under 23s goes out to the championship on loan. If we were in the Premiership with Bielsa and his view in squad numbers, you also have the cup games where you could play as many of the under 23s as you can supported by first teamers who need the games.

I was watching the game today and feeling very good about the future of the club. I think we have invested in a very professional structure for the club that supports three successful squads of players. Someone somewhere just needs to work out how it all fits together for the future!

Stevens Brown Bogus bossed midfield, they had no answer. Pace of Odour, Shacks and Gotts left them bewildered. Halme and Struijk looked a solid unit. For me it was close between Stevens and Bogus for MOM.

Great summary BIGE, always appreciate your thoughts on the games. I blow hot and cold on Stevens . He always seems to have good spells and then quieter periods and isn’t normally the star. What strikes me with Bogusz is that he is just so new to the team but fitted in very quickly. What did you think of Brown? Ready for more time in the first team or still off the pace?

Brown got the ability, a bit selfish at times, but think he is well worth half an hour in a tight game, seems hard to mark. Think Stevens gets overlooked but Bielsa rates him. Work rate is good and gets balls into the box in the right places. Think he reads the game well for a young lad and never panics on the ball. Bogus def looks like he will be around the first team next season. Shacks is coming on tons and you can tell his confidence is up with being around the first team. Lot of good young talent which will benefit the first team in a couple of years, let's not forget a lot are 17/ 18 just stepped up to U23s. All looks good let's hope we get back to where we belong and they can showcase their talent on the big stage.

Does anybody think that we should try getting our U-23s into a non-league league? Like the Northern Prem or something? A good competitive league, playing against men.
