Automatic every time. Seasons finished at start of May which gives the club additional time to work on transfer targets. Playoff teams don't know which division they will be in the next season and therefore cannot make any meaningful plans.

Automatic, definitely - given our track record in play-off finals (played three lost three) indeed in any final since FA Cup victory in 1972 - even with an assured victory, we could surely find a way to mess it up - or have match officials mess it up for us - which could be seen as exercising 'free will', either way.

Meant to add that there may not be many referees who subscribe to the idea of pre-determinism - and of course there would seem to be one or two who believe they themselves are God, and some Leeds fans may suspect there are rather more match officials who would see the EFL as the highest authority in matters related to Leeds United.

The question is if we were guaranteed though so I would take the glory of a Wembley win in the May sunshine and a trophy for Captain Cooper to lift.
Although if i knew the result beforehand it would take a lot of the joy away so you would have to wipe my memory of knowing the outcome.
