Top player at champ level, def adds goals too, would only take him on loan though.

Boro have put him up for loan.

Disappointed Pontus is banned for Derby, but his yellow was a joke. Their player did the exact same thing and yet we didn't even get a free kick. Ref was intimidated by the crowd as usual.

Hi guys, good result and we march through to a fairly straightforward chance to progress to the 5th round. Question for all you defensive minded football managers/coaches seen as though Pontus received his obligatory yellow card and we now lose him for 2 games, looks like we will have to rely on a cooper unless injured then maybe play ayling with Bart's, how would you go about improving coops? If I was coaching him I would drum into him 2 things, particularly when the ball is coming in to our 6 to 18 yard box, have a no nonsense approach Row Z every time and he needs to attack the ball improving his leap will help this, oh yeah and keep your Bl##dy hands down! Er is that 3? 😁 Mot brothers 😎

How would I make Cooper appear better? Sell him to a league 1 side.

10 Jan 2017 00:09:12
Would start Ayling at CB over Cooper anyway, unless we can get someone else in before Derby, Maybe even Bridcutt though he lacks the height. As for what he needs to change DJ your not far off with just smashing the ball out. Pontus and Bartley are both really comfortable with the ball at feet, not surprising for an ex striker and a guy who came up through Arsenals academy, and both can pass. Cooper tries to play like he has that level of technical ability, which he doesnt. 90% of his mistakes consist of sloppy passing or bombing forward with the ball before getting a heavy touch. Its less a case of what he needs to do and more what he needs to stop doing. Also yes, keep his hand down, or at least don't flail then a good foot above his head.

Agree back four against Derby should be Berardi and Taylor (if fit) full backs and Bartley and Ayling in the middle.

Ha ha Hess nice reply πŸ˜€ he needs to up his game improve and stop doing unnecessary stuff as Gummie astutely recognises or he will forever be warming the bench until we aquire better then he will find himself going down Murphys route would he not? 😎

Think Scoops nailed it, with regards to Monkey man pulling another blinder out of the bag. First half was diabolical but probably credit to them as they ran themselves into the ground to make it so difficult. Definitely need another CB I'd go for Goodson at Brighton who can't get a game at present, excellent prospect. Positives for me is that we have two very good ball playing full backs in Coyle and Denton πŸ‘ I actually thought Grimes showed some glimpses of something (ducking for cover as I write) but simply cannot believe Monkey chooses to bring in bad players he's just devoid of any confidence but tonight will help him. Midfielders aren't in short supply these days anyway, overall with so many changes we beat a game Div 2 team bang on form away from home, so better than Liverpool! Appalling first half, did enough to deserve the win though (Histon) and as Pontus would say. we go again, believe we will beat Derby and Ayling will be MOM at CB.

Grimes, much like the rest of our midfield, was pants the first half but did well the second. The fact remains however he had 1 good (and only good) half against a Lg2 team. Is he as bad as some people have stated? no, is he good enough for a top end champ team or prem team if we go up? no. I don't think Monk brought in a bad player, rather one that looked to have potential that seems to have fallen flat.

Yet another inept display by a referee who was obviously colour blind, three yellow cards for Leeds (ok, most deserved) but nothing for a Cambridge player who put his hands up twice and elbowed one of our guys in the throat and was awarded a free kick for doing so? Seems there is still a bias against us, wherever we play.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

10 Jan 2017 00:19:47
At least in his colour blindness he only gave Kalvin a yellow, twas a nasty nasty challenge. He gave Pontus an undeserved Yellow and Phillips an undeserved yellow so at least it balances out.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jan 2017 00:30:53
That's actually true Gummie, but it just makes him twice as bad, and 3 times as bad when he gave a free kick against Bartley after he was elbowed on the chin. Bad refereeing seems to be becoming the norm. Its a bit of a thankless job, and its not easy, but the bit that should be easy is consistency. And on that score the ref tonight was pants.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Jan 2017 00:43:40
I don't blame him too much for the Jansson yellow to be fair Speedy, his elbow catches the player, its a total accident and unsighted but the ref sees it from only 1 angle at full speed without replays, he will get some stuff wrong, could have given a red. The fact he went yellow showed he saw the contact but was unsure of intent, i'm not too annoyed at that even if its frustrating from a fan point of view.

Great performance by the manager again. Nine changes, very poor first half but Monk pulls it out of the bag again. High price to pay losing Pontus for Derby but that was always on a knife edge. Could by Ayling and Bartley at CB on Friday. Prefer Ayling to Cooper anyway.

Was just about to post play ayling with barts. Hopefully coops is injured for a few weeks so we get a chance to see the duo. And well done mowatt. Hopefully monk can now see his potential in cm.

Job done. Last 16 should be achievable now. Well done Alex Mowatt. Be nice if he could get back to his old form, it would be like signing a new player. Is Jannson banned now for next two games then after his 10th yellow? If so was it a good idea to play him tonight?

09 Jan 2017 22:11:46
Maybe he shouldn't e the number 1, but from what I saw tonight he made just ONE mistake, a ball that went in off the post? Was happy to see his reaction to crosses has improved. He is work in progress, and I remember many people saying the same about schmeikel?

Agree0 Disagree2

09 Jan 2017 22:54:09
No command of box, does not catch the ball, punched at a shot he should have caught in his midriff and was beaten at near post. Apart from that he had a great game

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Jan 2017 00:27:37
I counted a lot more than 1 mistake L4alt, they just didn't cost us, parrying an easily catch-able ball back into the centre of the box with a weak sauce punch nearly hurt us for one. that's schoolyard stuff, if you can't catch it (which again, he should have, easily) you put the ball wide to make it harder if an opposition player gets to it first. On top of that did a single one of his kicks find a Leeds player?

We will always concede when Cooper plays. Poor

09 Jan 2017 20:49:35
Said a few weeks back that we needed 2 CB's this window because Cooper didn't look Champ class, tonight he doesn't even look Lg2 class. Have actually lost count of how many times the commentator has said mistake by Cooper and its only half time.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

09 Jan 2017 20:55:42
The normally dependable Pontus has made a number of mistakes also. After the goal that silvestre let in I can definitely say that green deserves the number 1 shirt.

09 Jan 2017 21:17:52
The difference is that Jansson has cleaned up most of his own mistakes though and none of them have been when well out of position or stupid passes.

Spot on Gummie. Thought Cooper's performance put Jansson under pressure as he was doing the work of two

09 Jan 2017 22:14:33
I think Silvestri should have got that ball but it was a deflection? My own gripe was the referee not giving a singe yellow card to any Cambridge player, despite the fouls and elbows? Pure cheating, but then what do we expect, being 'dirty' Leeds?

Stuart downing able to leave middlesborough on a season long loan, good bid? Might be the difference and certainly a better player than Dallas on his day, we need a left footer in the team other than Taylor too. Good fit for me. Also interested in 19 year old sergi Canos from Norwich, anybody know anything about this? Good player? Worth trying?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

great post, think downing would be very good fit for team and good at this level

Downing although 32 would be excellent addition experience and quality . Canos was on-loan at Brentford from Liverpool, showed promise and has pace only young so room for improvement.

imo Downing would be great when going forward BUT not a patch on Dallas getting up and down doing the dirty, unseen work that Dallas gets through. A good impact sub maybe

Good point degs, seen Dallas a few times in behind and covering for Taylor etc this season, work horse at his best. Just feel like although we have to sign our key loanees now, it is also important to add to the quality we've got with big names and big players, all the other clubs are doing it. I feel as though transfer wise we have already missed a few good opportunities this window, the latest being nugent. If Taylor stays, for me there is no required improvement in our. Aback 5 as we have good alternatives in goal and out wide, possibly another reserve cb but as we all know cooper is ok to fill in there. The holding midfield for me is the best we've seen it for years, and we thought big Dave was good! Attacking we've looked more dangerous this season than a lot of other promotion chasers, excluding arguably Newcastle, but it's all an opinion, and the attack could do with some back up I think, antonsson works hard but doesn't cut it for me, should maybe look at this Boyle from Grimsby, or wells as I've said for years, although huddersfield probably wouldn't sell him to us, worth a punt. MONK, if you're reading sign up downing and dyer or afobe from Bournemouth. MOT
