One more point. As much as I like Dallas' endeavor he is not going to win us many games. Hard worker. Good team player. Just we need more from a wide player. To me he's a good player to bring on with 15 minutes to go to help see a game out, on the rare occasion we are actually leading! MOT.

I agree cork
I posted last week. Dallas. Wood. Bamba. Silv should all go. Not championship quality.

still like wood and still think silv is one of the best in the league he is unlucky to be 2nd choice and we should sell as he would command a good fee in italy.

Seriously bw. How on earth can you like wood
R u joking?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2016 20:14:56
think wood is proven, top scorer last year in poor team and is the kind of forward I like, I still think good things will come from him, and if he goes expect good things from him. I also rated rickets though so what do I know.

Having had a day and a half to digest Sundays match i'm still not sure what went wrong. First game of season you would of thought the players would be up for it and keen to impress. i'm sure its not true but the players looked uninterested and way off the pace. As others have said we were poor at the back but it was really the midfield area where we looked very poor. I've seen Grimes play a couple of times before and he looked a very decent player but on Sunday didn't seem to know what role he was meant to be playing. Its unfair to slag the lad off as it was his first game but surely Monk must have given him instructions? As for Dave. Well to me he's either very good or the game seems to just pass him by as it did on Sunday. Viera was ok, not as good as some have suggested but you can tell there is a very good player there.
As for Bridcutt. i'd like better, someone who will demand the ball and get the team going forward more. However in saying that he is a very good Championship player and will improve the team no doubt.
Hopefully the new Spaniard will make a differnce although he seems destined for the number 10 role which will mean still playing with one up top. Gary Monk has a tough job on his hands!

Why do all our managers sign wingers then play with one striker and leave them on bench. Our defence is crap so need to spend more time in their half. Two strikers two wingers two central midfielders. We def won't win many games relying on wood up front and hoping an eighteen year old, as talented as he is, can control midfield on his own. Need a bridcut to play with dave with Viera and sacko. Ant and roofe up front. Botaka should be on bench with Mowatt and wood and dallas. Would even put Phillips in ahead of Grimes.
Looks like not much to choose between sylvestri and green so experience will out. Sure Monk will get it together it just riles me that new managers say we are going to attack, play on the front foot etc. then the team don't seem to know which way is forward.
Early days and sure we will pick up 6 points from our home games.

Excellent observations bige Are you doing anything for the next 6/ 7 months maybe you could sit beside Monk and have a word in his ear. How does 4/ 5 grand a week sound to you.

Will do it for nowt. Just peed off cause I lost me money again lol. Do think we need to start putting some pace on pitch to start with though. We allow teams to come on to us. Sure when pedro gets clearance will be more attack minded. New cb would be handy as well.

As poorly as everyone played there appeared to be no sign of any "plan" Monk is supposedly implementing. He now knows the pressure that comes with the job. Sunday was totally unacceptable in every way. Seemingly no improvement in the close season in fact for most of the game it was just like watching a last years game. Having said all that I still have faith and hope that a few arms are put around shoulders but also a few rockets are placed strategically. With so many new faces it's only fair to look at the season after at least half a dozen matches
Every team has it's off days. Let's hope that was one of our very few this season. MOT.

Right lads, Sunday was pretty bad, but why we blame wood, green and Taylor I don't know, wood had no service abd he's not the kind of player that will create something from nothing, 1st goal was pretty poor but apart from that I feel green did a few good saves abd can't wait to see more of him, and for Taylor, u can't blame a 3-0 defeat on him, he did a few good tackle and he seemed committed, he got into good positions for crossing down the left side and was the only place we seemed threatening, so lads, I picked out the positives from a new team that hasn't played together that much, abd as MM says up the whites and down the pints MOT.

Going back to the piece about the officials, I honestly can't remember seeing a genuinely good performance by them involved in a leeds game for ages. Let's face facts we lost to the better side on Sunday but QPR should have been down to 10 men at 1-0 then who knows what happens I sure don't see them winning 3-0 if the ref had sent left his testicles in a jar at home, poor decision and I doubt he would of got it wrong if it was a leeds player!

I think we need to stop pussy-footing about. We were absolutely rubbish yesterday. The one (and only) player that looked at the standard we need to get us out of this division was Sacko.
The rest were no better or worse than last season.
I see no reason for optimism.
Mind you, I didn't watch the whole game. I started reading war and peace after 10 minutes because I needed a bit of excitement.

not saying danum is wrong but I am saying bit harsh after 90 minutes, what can you tell after 90 minutes and do we have no chance of progressing after 90 minutes. if so why do teams train because after 90 minutes everything is set in stone.

Keep reading awesome book. See if you can finish it before Lumpov scores a goal. Although I can see your point speedy we were very poor and there were no positives to take away. What about rumour we're in for Luke Moore, would be good signing IMO.

I think you can forgive the forwards and midfield as they havnt had time to gel and get an understanding with each other yet but the defence just didn't have a clue about the most basic of things - considering Monk was a dfender you would think he would have sorted that out - just proves how important it is to get Bridcutt and a new center back in quickley and no lessons have been learnt about Bamba from last season.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

08 Aug 2016 14:39:27
Not sure we can forgive the midfield as they constantly gave the ball away, partly causing the mayhem in defence. Grimes particularly guilty, how Mowatt was not picked above him I just don't know. As for Berardi, he looked short of fitness and probably should never have started this match, agree we really need another centre back. Bridcutt is again starting to look more likely 'when' then 'if' but maybe we should be looking at other options as this deal should have been completed ages ago.

I think the Bamba lesson is known but it's a question of availability of players better than him with funds we have. I believe we are about to bid for Liam Moore.

We desperately require a better spine to the team which will also provide the links in our play which were absent on Sunday.

I understand what you are saying George but then why make him captain, and there must be one of the youngsters who could replace him and not do any worse.

So as not to make it obvious. Once say Moore Hobbs or Ball come in he'll be benched meaning he'll have to give up captain armband to Birdcage if we land him. Lots of if and supposition but that I think is the plan. Without Birdcage, who else you going to make skipper?

This situation also demonstrates how our transfer business is not yet completed. I still say with 2 or 3 top additions we will be fine. Meanwhile I can see Coyle starting a lot of games this season.

QPR - 1 own goal, 1 dubious penalty and their last goal was handball!
I have just watched the highlights, the penalty was very iffy and the last goal definitely came off his arm!

Agreed, thought they should of had a man sent off as well . The ref was very iffy. But we were also shockingly poor, could not believe how poor we were . Would like to know the real reason why they were that bad . Can put it down to a one off with a match on weds they really don't want to loose but really need to see better performances than that.

Bloody awful display. Another keeper who can't catch and he looked terrified and really nervous anytime the ball was near him.
The back 4 looked like they had never even been introduced to each other and the passing lacked zip.
Wood was awful yet again and if now fit, then its on your bike mate.
Only one game gone but if Monk cant
see the obvious its going to be a long old season.

Could just be nerves with Green. Judge him on 4 games, not 90 minutes.

Wood must be benched in favor of Ant and Roofe and I can see him being sold or loaned in January. All those posters who thought he might fire 20 this season be on something.

lets assume monk knows the swan lad better than us and monk knows a bit more about football than us, might be a reason. I agree what I saw in the 90 minutes was not great but then I remember I saw Pele once for 90 minutes and he was really pony but for some reason the brazil manager kept picking him.

It was not so much the loss but the manner of it. Three goals from three individual mistakes were the cause of the goals. However we were under constant pressure and no control in mid field - it could have been five or more. Anyone who reads this site will know I have consistently said Bamba is a liability. Although people slate Belusci for his mistakes his mobility and reading of the game generally meant he was able to cover the shortcomings of others on many occasions for which he never got credit. He has gone however. Bartley looks ok but there is no mobility at the back to provide enough cover. Overall the team lacked shape and players kept appearing in areas where you wouldn't expect them or where they should be. Consequently once we regained possession there was no out ball or control because players were not where perhaps they should have been. Therefore long ball where Wood is hopeless in the air or difficult pass needed and it goes astray. Add to that too many 'easy' short passes also went astray. When we can't even throw the ball in to one of ours it sort of sums it up. Hope we get better. We need another left back, centre half and commanding midfielder and the manager to get the team playing with energy, with the right shape and with improved technical ability. Pass, head and shoot. Good tackling and interceptions would also help. Other than that we are fine.

Agree with Bamba, I think he set the panic tone by lumping balls forward within the first 5 mins. Defensive midfield too deep, offensive too forward and not trying to show for the ball created a chasm between the two which was filled by 3 QPR players who were picking the passes off.

Green was diabolical. Total mess for the first goal. Couldn't really do much about number two or three to be fair. Did make some good saves today. Better than Silvestri? I'm not so sure.

Berardi has picked up another injury! If it is another recurrent ankle injury I think mr Cellino will look to sack the physio staff too.

Coyle looked very good today. Made a mistake that cost a goal, hopefully he learns very quickly from his mistakes. Will be a big player for us this season. Need to get another contract sorted out.

Bartley looked competent enough. Judgement is still reserved for a time when we haven't been publicly spanked.

Bamba looks fragile and prone to make at least one mistake/ rash challenge per game. Can't fault his passion but I certainly can fault his decision making. Looks a weak link.

Charlie Taylor looked uninterested. No real attacking intent. A few class tackles but was extremely sloppy in possession. He just needs to leave if he doesn't want a new contract. End of.

Dave - some good and some bad. Looked much better with bridcutt or cook beside him.

Veira - definately a hot talent. The boy can tackle and ping it around the park. He is still very naive on the pitch. 2 mistakes in 2 games that have lead to goals. Although it probably was a penalty think cousins made a lot of it and went down too easily.

Grimes - was he even on the pitch? Only realised he was playing when he got booked. Should be dropped/ sent back to Swansea.

Dallas - looked like he was still on honeymoon. Should be dropped

Roofe - meh, not a bad performance to say he had no service, but I was expecting more from him.

Sacko - came on and scored a great goal. Shame it was handball. Very direct, quick and tricky must start next game surely?!

Wood - did he do anything? Makes me almost miss Steve Morison! Definately not a lone striker.

Antonson - good movement. Could have had a brace but for a lack of accuracy. I'm sure the goals will come.

Overall the game was awful. The referee completely bottled it when one of their midfielders deserved a second yellow. Grimes then got booked for a similar challenge. Really disappointing that referees can get away with really poor game changing decisions like that. We need to play a 442 formation with cooper in for bamba, sacko in for Dallas and grimes dropped for antonsson.

Great post AliLUFC, pretty spot on and accurate assessment of the game and players, we really need to sort out the transfers ASAP CB, Bridcutt and a quality mobile lone striker who can play that role to fit GMs system although I think Antonsson can play that role better suited than wood just needs to put his shooting boots on next time out!

DJ agreed. CB a priority I would like Liam Moore as I think he was quality for Leicester in the championship. Bridcutt is proven for us and therefore is a must. Another striker would be nice but I think a playmaker is more important, Bradley dack for gillingham maybe? . In terms of strikers I think Adam Le Fondre could be decent and affordable. Oh and another left back (Rico Henry? ) to cover for the inevitable.
