I think we are over estimating the situation, perhaps it was simply an investment that is ongoing but not a takeover? Where has this money come from to buy players? Surely not all from players leaving as only snoddy went for a reasonable amount and that was 1.5 up front, NW said 'I didn't think I'd be able to afford him (peltier) and I was thrilled to find I did have the funds' something along those lines anyway. Why would NW be thrilled to have funds for his captain leaving? Probably just investment that's ongoing

Believable2 Unbelievable11

If this is what you say. Then the only thing that is being invested in, is bates pocket.

I for one am really worried now, I feel the takeover is never going to happen, trying to remain positive but with the likes of forest showing their intent with some solid signings, I feel we're gonna be left behind if bates stays..I feel forest, Leicester and Bolton are gonna be up there all season and we are not gonna keep pace...hope I'm wrong...MOT.

Believable5 Unbelievable8

Your bang on the money. Without these marquee signings, we will probably finish top half. I just hope that some of these young players step up to the plate, i don't doubt that they can.

Agree5 Disagree4

Spot on.but i think all intelligent leeds fans know this.we just have to pray that we are surprised by a couple more top signings...shrew leeds

Agree1 Disagree4

This team is already miles better than last season's. Another 2 or 3 in would be good, but I think many are underestimating the team as it stands. The defence looks very solid, and for the first time in years we won't be bullied in midfield. Warnock's done wonders already.

08 Aug 2012 22:35:54
I think we need to take a step back and look at what's goin on regarding the takeover,if ken Bates was interested in selling the club why would he be bothered in trying to finance these deals for players, surely he would just sell the club and retire to his luxury apartment in monoco, the man is 80 something if he was that close in selling, the incentive would not be there, the takeover is dead, his actions speak louder than words.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

He isn't financing the deals only money been spent is from sales.

They would have agreed a price before dd and any money from sales stays in the club that's why we havebboughtb10 players.

Why do ppl talk such rubbish

Agree8 Disagree1

08 Aug 2012 22:31:38
Leeds are in the midst of a takeover. Until that happens, no-one is going to invest in the squad. Neil has sold and bought. I reckon he has 700k to 800k left (only 1.5 up front for snoddy). Thats not enough for a Maynard or a Beckford or a CMS.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Thats why Maynard is coming on loan for the season.

I really think, some of the kids will break through this year, poleon looks good!

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Poleon, byram, kilock, turner twins, taylor, lenigan, all these players could step up to the plate. Just like that young lad did at Watford, murry or murthy i think his name is.

Agree3 Disagree0

I hope so too mate. People keep commenting how some of them arent good enough. Until we give them a chance we will never no. If we dont make any more signings we will av work with the squad we have and hope some of the gems of youngsters can get a chance. Takeover or no takeover, i will still support leeds till i die! MOT

Just saw on the "Football Rumours" page that mad max gradel fancies a return to England after a poor season in France. Would love to see him come back but chances are slim.

If I was NW he would be my priority if he's looking for a wide man. He can play on both sides and has even been effective down the middle!

Thoughts?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

MAD MAX is welcome back anytime. Capable of ripping up the Championship. Sure NW would love it too. Sadly, cant afford him.......unless..I am sure I heard a tiny rumour about a takeover or something?!

Agree3 Disagree0

Always loved mad max but remember he jumped shift pretty quick and we nearly didn't get promoted because of him and already he wants to chuck his new team in so be aware!!

Agree1 Disagree1

Gradel has two young brothers that live in france - he was sending money back home to them, so when a move to a french club came up he thought it was best to move there to help look after his family.

Sick to death of reading 'we'll be lucky to make the top 10' or 'I can't see us getting more than mid-table next season' are you insane? The squad we have now is twice what we had last season, granted we sold our captain but who cares? We don't need him, we have a team of grafters who won't under any circumstance stop fighting for 3 points, yes they do need to have skill but that will come, football is a team game and I'd rather have a unit that works hard together and fights for yhe team than one man with a touch of class, relegation, mid table, top 10, playoffs or automatic we should stand by our Leeds United and in my opinion with a little added finesse promotion is obtainable MOT
LouisLeeds

Believable9 Unbelievable5

Much as I'd love to agree with you, I can't. There isn't enough creativity and anyone who knows what they're talking about and isn't a Leeds fan can see that. Yes, we look solid, but Howson, Gradel, Snoddy and Clayton are big losses which haven't been replaced with the right players. We probably won't get turned over next season, but even Warnock has admitted we might be struggling for goals. If Warnock's saying that, why do you think you know better? Deluded....

Agree4 Disagree3

Totally agree miss or mister. Look at barnsley last year, a team full of nobodys and they thrashed us twice. JD

I have a relative who lives in Monaco and was speaking to Ken Bates in Hotel De Paris, they were discussing how each would be using their 90 day allowance in this country. Ken said 60 days of his had been put aside for match weekends, so sorry to say but I think the takeover stories are just a smokescreen.

Believable0 Unbelievable11

Yep and my aunts was speaking to Santa last night and he said your not getting any presents this year for telling porkies ha ha.

As if bates would talk to a Radom stranger about his business.

Agree7 Disagree0

I have a relative from Mars who tells me that it's actually an alien group from Planet Zog buying the club. They need Ken to keep 60 of his 90 days aside for Leeds because the new chairman intends to inhabit Bates's body on match days to hide his alien form.

About as believable as your story mate....

Interesting to read an independent assessment of our squad

www.itv.com/sport/football/article/2012-08-08/championship-preview-leeds-united/

Have to say I agree with almost every word. Solid but insufficient quality to really compete. I think we can do better than ITV's prediction of 11th but we're a long way off the top 2 and I overall don't think the squad looks any better than the one we had two years ago. Better at the back - much weaker at the front.

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Rubbish throwaway article, they've got half the transfer figures wrong and the rest is nothing to take heed of!

Bates has played yet another blinder in fooling all us us hard working folk. Rumour has it 30,000+ crowd for opening game which will equal the outlay bates has had to dig deep for all signings neil warnock has made,I for one dont believe and never did believe there was any takeover. No take over of any football club has lasted as long as this, someone from somewhere would of had a squeek of news by now, nothing in the press at all, no big gun coming forward to say they are leeds, there nothing at all which means lies more lies and more lies.
Northwest white

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Dont talk sh*t and as for a 30,000 crowd, they have to sell a lot of tickets fast mate cos according to the OS theres half still not sold. Oh and how long does a takeover last then seeing as you know it all?

Agree3 Disagree1

What outlay? I reckon the club has made about a small profit on player trading during this window, possibly as much as a million when taking account of the wages we've offloaded for players like O'Brien & Bruce. Bates is laughing all the way to the bank and yes, I was stupid enough to renew my season ticket on day one. Elland Road is more addictive than crack and Bates knows it...

I've heard albeit only through a hammers mate that the Maynard rumour may have some legs according to news down their neck of the woods which I would be delighted with!

Regardless of whether this does happen or not, a bit of optimism doesn't cost a penny for all you down and outers! Look at this way we have a much improved squad on last year In particular the defence and plus... Who would of expected reading to go up with their squad last year before a ball was kicked and Blackpool 3 years ago before a ball was kicked and Norwich 2 years ago!?!

Keep the faith and with a bit of luck bates will be out soon and we could have a very solid season :)

Beckford gave us the best memories in recent years with promotion and beating scum
Smith joined scum

This is a reply I posted earlier today regarding the takeover.

If this not the case then the whole thing is a very sick joke by our best friend KB.

"Has any one else considered the possibility, that they do not want to anounce the take over until nw has completed all his signings.
this being to avoid clubs asking over inflated prices for players, hoping that the new owners have a big budget and would pay silly man city prices for players."

I don't know what's happened but sorry Neil we haven't got a decent 11. We have a decent 7 or 8. I live in Australia and get to watch Leeds live on television 5 ish times a year, I want to watch us win. The only decent game last tear was west ham, when we should have won

Post is correct in many ways.i like warnock and i like some of his buys but are we really that much forward to go from 14th to prem.money wise we are still as tight as last year.i think we are still up on transfer money never mind spending any extra.get 2 pieces of quality in,a good loan to and it would look much rosier.no way on this earth we will challenge today..shrew leeds

Agree1 Disagree0

Thing is Neil also knows this, but his hands are tied until new owners are in place. we have a safe mid table side, with potential to be in or around the playoff spots by the second transfer window. by then i think we will see the real spending happen.

With money being so tight we need to sell before we buy again, does anyone else think paddy kenny was a waste of half a mil? Even if he is an improvement it is only slight and that money could have been much better spent imo. I wonder if this was warnock being a bit self indulgent which unfortunately we can't afford to be. It stinks of him helping out a mate when that money could have been used for a striker / winger

Believable5 Unbelievable14

Nope, I don't think he was a waste. He is a complete keeper (all round) not just a shot stopper or good command of his area. The keepers we have had were all good shot stoppers but not good at marshalling the defence. He will win us points on his own. :)

Been working near Thorp Arch this morning and it seems busier than normal, with a lot of nice luxury cars going in and out. Why has no one questioned the credibility of LUSTs takeover 'insider'? By all accounts they've never met said contact in person. Dan archway

Believable3 Unbelievable3

LUST are a bunch of self important wannabees. They know nothing, but they want us to believe they are ''in the know''.Their portentious ''statements'' really are laughable. As if anyone ''in the know'' is going to take any notice of them. 7, 000 members are hardly in a majority to act as a mouthpiece for leeds fans. I grant you they represent a majority of bates haters who have contributed to the destabilizing of the club [ boycottiing games, very supportive of a team you love! Demos outside, great for team morale! ]The facts are there if you look for them. For example, The confidentially agreement is OBVIOUSLY stilll in place. Hence no news, Ged It? And one final point i will leave with you all. If the takeover does go through will it neccessarily be in the best interests of the club?. Have you seen what's happening at Malaga? They were taken over last year and are owned by a 'billionaire oil baron'. They are currently laden with debt, facing demotion and in the process of a fire sale. The grass isn't always greener.

I for one don't believe the takeover will happen. It has all been speculatuin for months now. I'm starting to think it is a smoke screen to get Warnock to stay on and players to sign plus get the fans off Bates's back. Nothing could stay this confidentail for so long without some sort of leak. Players singing (all be it not world beaters) thinking we are going to be taken over by a rich tycoon. After all, which player in his right mind would sign up to a club owned by Ken Bates. The man is a complete kn*b the way he abuses the fans.
I really do hope I'm wrong and things go our way for a change. Lets just back NW whatever happens.

No rumour but do you think our team is lacking. 1 injury and we have no replacements and we need another striker or even two more there no finish there from us against Burton we controlled well but had no finishing touch

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Were lacking a back up definitely for the centreback and forwards positions, and possibly a few other positions too. Yes we have some good youth players for those spots but we need a half decent backup with some experience of playing first team football. Young players need bringing into the team slowly but if we don't get any other back up they could be thrown in too quickly if we get injuries which could harm there development. Still a couple of weeks of the transfer window left so not worrying too much yet though.

With Warnock saying we lack strength in depth, expect up to 3 more signings, 2 potential 'squad players' and potentially Maynard on loan, if we fail to sell Nunez, Paynter, Rachubka etc. However, if we get the funds, either through the sale of these players or the 'takeover', then we could potentially see bids to sign either Maynard or Mackail Smith on permanent deals.

Dont understand where all the money has gone if warnock is saying he has to move players before he can buy them it cant all have been used on pelteri

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I was thinkin the same. We never spent the money from the sale of other players (delph, howson, gradel etc) on replacements.

NW also saying we dont have any depth in squad. Think this is the time to start getting some youngsters through. Was watching premiership years the other day, think it was 2000/01 when we had the likes of woody, harte, smith, kewell etc. Think we should try that again

look i dont know if takeover is happening or not but im only concerned about the team.is it good enough to challenge?..no i dont think so.we still need 2 players at least with a bit of magic, someone to play that killer ball or cross and then someone to finish it.with what we have i dont think thers any chance of top 6.just a couple of bits of quality could make the diff.i mean have we actually spent any money nett.with snoddy and clayton money and what we have bought in means we have spent zero.so we are still in bates era mode.have we got anything to spend now, even 2 million for a decent forward? wish i knew what was happening but from what i see now we are still not good enough ...shrew leeds

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2012 08:39:40
OK so I'm a glass nearly full kind of guy so I would like to put a different spin on things.

If the takeover is ongoing and about to be complete before the end of August (Transfer window) it would pay Neil to play the "I'm not sure where the money is coming from to buy players I believe I will have to sell before buying" card. This would ensure that the clubs and players he is in negotiation with right now would not suddenly bang the price up. That is good management in my eyes.

Neil is very adamant on what he wants he stated at the end of last season that out team needed major surgery for it to be competitive. In the very short timescale Neil has managed just that and with good financial prudence as well.

Therefore I am very positive about our chances of promotion, again, because Neil has come through on everything he has promised us, the fans, so far!
I can't see him failing on the one thing ha has promised himself...THAT EIGHTH PROMOTION!

So keep the faith and be patient. Things are going to happen before the end of August and they are positive!

docsmith

Believable9 Unbelievable0

I like this way of looking at it. If true it helps keep the costs down to stop us paying inflated prices for donkeys!

Agree3 Disagree0

If this was the case surely we haven't spent all of the "income" from transfers on the signed players.

yes there are wages to consider but surely we would have the funds for another player before having to play the "we have no money" card as this limits us now to no progression within the transfer market until we sell?!"

maybe thats the reason we are potentially "loaning" maynard

to be honest, if (and i hope it is) a smokescreen to keep the prices down then i dont feel warnock is playing a very good "poker face" as now we are stumped until either we sell our deadwood or potentially admit we have the cash injection we are all hoping for.

would love to hear anyone elses views?

MOT

LUFCLUKE

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it is exactly what it looks like. There is a hitch in the deal...NW has been caught like the rest of us. The deal should have went through by now. I think Bates is holding out for more than he first said. He is probably arguing that the money from recent sales should go his way. No one's fault apart from Bates. What worries me is the financial position of the buyers. Surely at this stage, if someone was holding the deal back for a few mil, and you had the finances you would pay to get rid of the problem and move on. It would be in their interest to get it settled and bring in the players they need to get the promotion. That's if they had 'loads a money' Unfortunately, I don't believe they have. Forest have announced their takeover and they are not paying over the odds for players. With any luck Bates payday will come soon and we can move on, and upwards.

Dont shoot me down, but id like to see kewell back on a pay as you play deal. Also seen as we cant afford to bring in without selling, bring in Roque Santa Cruz on a loan deal with option to purchase in january when takeover is well complete.
Means we dont have to pay any transfer fees. And selling Paynter should free up some money for wages.
What do you think?

Don't think you'll find getting rid of paynter would cover santa's wages mate and as for kewell give it a rest. slc

Agree2 Disagree1

I think Kewell would do a good job in the championship, but it would be too unpopular a move with the vast majority of fans.

Kewell well knew the history between the teams before he made his decision to move 'there'

Agree3 Disagree0

Why would we want K*****back? We need players who care about Leeds and its abundantly clear that, that pr*ck K***** did not give a flying f*ck about us

Agree8 Disagree1

Kewell wouldn't be welcome back, hes scum.

Agree7 Disagree1

Kewell couldn't cut it in the australian league so how he's going to be of any use in the championship is beyond me.

Agree4 Disagree0

Kewell back are you joking.never want to see that prat again , he is a disgrace

Kewell ?? - never in a million years

NO THANKS

He still bled us dry when going to Merseyside and was still taking a wage from us when we were skint!

I presumably like everyone else have no idea what's going on with the takeover. And whilst I was so very excited at the news of a takeover when it broke out, I won't be too disheartened if Infact it has hit a stumbling block and does not materialise. My gut instinct is telling me that is the case.
My reason for this optimism is that without the takeover, I feel we have pulled a solid squad together, admittedly lacking a touch of flair and a few goals. But solid nevertheless.
I completely agree with warnock and most fans that we could have a really promising season if we find a couple of decent signings to finish the squad off.
However with warnock stating that we can't bring any of the two in until we have let players go I can't see these players being the "icing on the cake" we had hoped for. The players we have to let go do not have values enough to add up to what we need to spend in these two positions, so I do not see where he is coming from. Even if u take wages into consideration losing four to gain two, u would expect the two coming in would be on at least double those going out making that even out. These surely can't be the " marquee " signings we were hoping for.
I know warnock doesn't like to loan players but I've got a funny feeling he will have to.

My punt is that we will have George Boyd signed and sealed this week or beginning of next.
And well have to settle for a striker on loan which I believe will be in the form off nicky maynard.

I just hope he doesn't get Injured AGAIN!

Warnocks seemed a lot more excited a week ago than he does this week. I think he was promised some cash to spend on a couple marquee signings when the takeover was finalised.

I think something may have happened in the last week that has stopped the takeover in its tracks.

I really hope not but this is my gut feeling.
And my gut feeling lake many others is usually right.

Again... I hope I'm completely wrong

Word is that Paynter is on about £11k a week, Nunez is on £8k, Connolly £6k and Rachubka £4k; that's £29k to play with..
Boyd would be on around £12k and I doubt Maynard is on more than £15k.

First of all...I do trust Warnock, and I have been and always will be forever Leeds. Just feel that the Takeover is not going to happen.....will love it when someone says to me I told you so, and I hope I am seriously wrong. I think Warnock now knows that the TO has stalled, hence his comment last night, and his realisation that the only way to get more players is to sell. Where does he start....unfortunately the only salable asset he has is Rosco....(possibly Becchio). I think if we see Rosco going and two coming in, it will be as good as saying that the TO is not happening and we must push on. So with Rosco going to bring in Boyd and Templeton, and maybe (although I dont know why the Scammers would do it) Maynard on loan. Whatever happens We are Leeds and with our support and a bit of heart, and Warnocks management we can press on to a top 6 finish. Who knows with the interest shown, we may get a buyer next season.

Lets hope I wrong.....Fredh MOT

Could be wrong but sounds to me that the takeover taking longer than expected and NW getting us ready for a player to be sold to get funds(becchio?). Hope that not the case be the same as howson and snods cash(where has that gone?) and wont see any of it. How ths cockney con man gets away wth treatng are club like this and go unpunished is beyond me. Tommo.lufc.84

To be fair mate we've totally revamped our squad bringing in a lot of players that will more likely be on more money than the one's that have left, peltier, kenny I would think to be the highest earners.
Add to that agents fees , the fact we haven't had all the snoddy money up front etc and I reckon the accounts wouldn't be as far away as we think. ( this is my opinion I am not related or working for papa smurf!) slc

Agree0 Disagree0

Snods cash went on varney austin and peltier i think 300k + 300k + 700-800k = 1.5-1.6m so i would imagine thats where... yeah varney and austin were before but they were probably originally meant to be covered by transfer listed player that as of yet havent moved on, so the snods money has covered it.

Awful performance tonight no skill no guile no creativity, no playmaker. Becchio was awful and Ross doesn't look fit. Plus points Austin will become a great favourite if he stops trying to play Gerrard style passes, Green looks a good player but played out of position and we actually looked better when all the subs came on and Byram looks to have genuine quality, makes me wonder why we spent so much on Lee Peltier who I am sure is a good player when we clearly need a quality striker and a right winger but NW says we can't afford them unless we sell. Takeover ? We have sold our best two players ( Snodgrass and Clayton ) and have to think that Ross will be sacrificed to bring in a couple more, we still look like KB owns us so no chance of promotion. If anyone who actually watched them tonight disagrees I would be amazed. Yes it's a friendly but we certainly didn't look two divisions better than Burton and the style of football was horrible . I expect lots of Leeds fans to shoot me down and the usual true Leeds supporters rubbish - If anyone believes we will be anywhere near promotion dream on - and if there is a takeover why we we buy so much mediocrity and sell our best players ?

Believable8 Unbelievable2

You need to start going to watch the games instead of just looking at the highlights if you think clayton was anywhere near our best player

Clayton was one of our most consistant performers last season!

Leeds are definately going in the right direction. 10 players in 8 weeks, spent around £2.6 million, looking to get 2 more 'marquee signings' and a takeover is currently ongoing. Does that not sound positive? Let's just get behind the team and Warnock on matchdays and watch our boys give there all in that mighty White shirt!

No more players for a while...
