Ok, so we have a few additions and I know it's early days but what would your starting 11 look like ( let's say Cooke has gone) and where do you see Roofe playing - wing or down the middle?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2016 23:51:01
I am thinking 4-4-2 two wingers Roofe and? Up front. Didgeridoo and one other in middle of park.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 00:33:43
Good Q Peacock! with current Ins and possibly outs mine would be a 4-1-3-2 with Green Beradi Cooper Bartley Taylor Diagouraga Sacko Roofe Dallas Antonsson Wood SUBS Peacock-Farrel Coyle Bamba Botaka Grimes Philips Stokes
of course this is before I've seen any of the new signings play! I would be tempted to give botaka a chance if Sako isn't up to it, also blood Stokes instead of doukara, I would play roofe central in an attacking 3 behind wood and antonsson as I have seen him play there for oxford and he was awesome, no place for cookie as I think he is gone and charlie keeps his place because MC won't sell him this window unless they double the offer to 10 mil, If that happens I would play Berai at LB and slot Coyley in at RB.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 02:18:08
DJ

Surely if Taylor goes for like 8m plus, we would buy a replacement LB.

Wex, if you reading, I can recommend a very good young LB who would come fairly cheap as replacement for Charlie.

Morning George, yeah absolutely as don't think Tyler Denton is quite ready to step up just yet, GM is probably eyeing someone up just in case, not many about though at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 22:52:53
I won't be too disappointed if we sell cook. £6 million is decent money, and if we re-invest in the squad, then it's all good. We need to be realistic, there isn't a club in the championship who manages to keep their really talented youngsters. Look at burnley, middlesborough and hull. No highly rated, home grown players at all. Cook may be fantastic in 3-4 years time, but in the meantime, will he drive us to the premier league? Definitely not!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2016 23:58:06
I like your optimism, reinvest my arse that money is already spent, wrong to sell cook should build team around him!

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 00:35:26
Cook Taylor and Mowatt all been offered new contracts. Cook gone because he wanted to. Obviously bournemouth can offer more money than us so its a no brainer for a young lad. Good luck to him. At least we get deceny money for him. No one to blame that's football. Its what we do with the money that matters.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2016 07:32:36
I think selling cook is a no brainer for that money. Yes he has potential but at the minute that is all . It grates that he's homegrown talent and we don't want to see any of it leave but in all honesty I think he can easily be replaced with better perhaps.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 22:31:38
As I understand it, it's 6 mill rising to ten good bit of money for a player with one year left and probably wanted to leave? And we have signed some quality in the making in roofe etc roll on new season!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2016 21:45:40
Looks like we could get a couple of million out of schmichel.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2016 20:06:40
Cook going for 6 million. Which is as much as you can wish for with a year left. (I. e byram) the question is, why leave our players contracts to run down a year. It is costing us a fortune in transfer fees.
Not rocket science just bad organisation.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

07 Jul 2016 21:05:48
Ready made excuse to sell, player won't sign new contract so I had no choice. Contract discussions should be made well in advance of final year, if player does not sign then you may still have to sell but can maximise value.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 21:13:34
Mmmm could it be the fact that the players and agents won't have talks about a new contract?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 21:48:57
Sure there will be a sell on clause as well. Schmeicals transfer will net us 1.7 mill if it goes through. Think 6 mill is about right really for such a young talent. No guarantee he will improve and it only takes for him to take a wrong turn. Mind you bournemouth is hardly a magnet for the jetsetters and nightlife. Could be a good move for him. Down side is I expect them to struggle next season so won't do his confidence any good.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 21:56:47
No one can force them to sign and you can't give them what you haven't got, get what we can, while we can! I would use some of the money to see if we can give Charlie Taylor a better deal and retain him as well as bring in another (half the money already spent on Roofe) .

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 21:57:05
Because it's been a learning curve for Cellino. Now he's learned hence Roofe on a 4 year deal rather than 2. Unfortunately, his errors have cost us Cook, Byram and by end of next week I can see Taylor and Mowatt leaving. If we can attract players of similar ilk and stick them on 4 year contracts it was actually the right thing to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 19:40:10
I'd be fairly confident that Taylor and cook will be going if premier league clubs are looking our hands are tied I'm sorry lads but we can't compete.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

07 Jul 2016 20:39:26
It has to be expected that the lure of the PL would tempt our Crown Jewels however it is important that the proceeds are re-invested effectively. A decent start with Roofe but more should be expected.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 21:38:49
Agreed Notts plenty of time left to bring in the required players as I said Taylor is gone as well so we need to invest wisely.

Agree danum a bit young but would love to see him get some games next season. Lot of talent. We need to see what Sacko and Botaka can do yet. Think ee will be geared up to attack so can see both getting a chance.

I thought I was being funny but maybe not enough.
We could try to get Aden (FLINT) from Bristol City, he could create the spark to set Wood 'n' Roofe on fire!

07 Jul 2016 19:11:51
Looks like Cook is off to Bournemouth.
Still a raw talent that I think we can cope without. Someone like Osman would be a more consistent player and now we have more pace and creativity going forward I personally won't be too disappointed. Just cause cook is home grown doesn't mean he is the best option.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

07 Jul 2016 19:31:36
Agree to a degree with that Trev, cook did not often really effect games last year and I saw all our home ones, I do think he would have been better this year.

But 6m is 6 m and the prem is the prem so I can see why it good for both really but I just think it is a year too early for him as needs to get hold of games more and he might have done that more this new season.

It is what it is so as long as that cash invested it could work out better for the squad even if a lot of fans will kick off.

Good luck to him and let's hope we get someone like osman and another in midfield and our midfield could turn out to be a lot stronger this year.

Agree1 Disagree1

07 Jul 2016 19:05:09
Call me suspicious. But with us spending all this money we don't have on new players.
I'm guessing Cellino has already decided to sell our Crown Jewels. And is spending some of it to appease us.
Might be wrong.
But don't think so.

I posted a while ago that judgement on MC would be reserved until summer signings were in place. with our recent activity i'm happy to say i'm still pro MC and can't wait for season to start. we know nothing's guaranteed but at least some intent is being shown. 9/ 10 so far but if we get bridcutt or similar in as well then it's a 10 from degsy MOT boys and liver!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2016 14:31:32
Just want to say how pleased I am with the quality of the signings so far, a sign of intent.
Does anyone feel that we are just about to sell 1 or more of our young talent to pay?
Sell 1 quality player and get 4-5 or more in then I'm happy as a pig in poo.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2016 14:50:03

Aus, I am thinking that a sale of one of our crown jewels is prob on the cards. If he gets a McBadgekisser type fee then I'd be content with that if it means we get in a mixture of experienced frees/ loans and a few £2-3m deals like roofe and that swedish guy. If it balances the books then I'll settle for that.
Really pleased with the signings we've made so far, hopefully more to come.

07 Jul 2016 14:02:55
Just want to say thank you mr Cellino you've made this season possible with these signings this week.

I think we can make a real impact this year I feel all the signings made this week really strengthen the squad drastically and all add some flair to our play. If we don't sign another player now till season starts I'd be happy with the squad maybe another centre half if possible.
I feel the only thing to think about now is to tie down our talented stars cook/ Taylor/ mowett we do this and I feel we show real desire and I look forward to a good season.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Word is Cellino used his own personal funds to secure Roofe. Now that even earns my respect and it's what I've been wanting all along. He finally showing he genuinely cares and is committed.

With 3 or 4 more quality acquisitions we shall be a force this season. Here's to securing promotion to the PL by May 16b 2016b.

07 Jul 2016 15:58:26
Not quite sure how you were right all the time Wex. One of the issues with Cellino was due to the lack investment in the team.

07 Jul 2016 16:30:15
Wood, doukora, botoka, belusci, Irwin, silvestri and more. did they fall out of the sky Notts?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 16:47:17
Wex
I'm kinda with Notts on this. I simply wanted Cellino to put hand in his personal pocket. He did that finally today and I hope more are coming. I was attacked by several posters from Easter onward when I said this summer was the time to gamble. I'm hoping they'll admit they were wrong when these signings show their value to the team and a promotion push is in the making.

Provided we continue to invest well I believe we could even aim for 4th spot. What credit I will hand to you wex is your faith and patience in Cellino. Almost as if you knew he'd come good.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 20:48:49
Wex you doughnut, he made a net profit during that season.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 12:29:50
I know some on here saying that bringing in players on loan shows lack of investment and intent but for me it makes perfect sense as players to get a team out of the championship are a different type to the players you need to survive the premiership. So it makes sense to go to the loan market.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2016 13:27:05
I think some of them could be offered permanent deals if we do go up - such as Grimes.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 12:27:56
Back now guys and it is getting interesting on the transfer front for sure.

So far I would say we have signed a solid mix of potential with some good experience types as well, loans/ perm buys so overall I would say we are ahead of what we did last season.

Ask yourself this are the players we have signed better than the ones we have let go? I think the answer is a pretty clear yes and you really have got to be a major negative type to look at it otherwise.

It seems we are buying with a plan, which to be fair Monk should be able to do with mad MC's cash support so only doing what a normal club should do, but for us that is a move forward.

Anyway going to have to sit down with all this transfer activity going on, expect more out (the Cat which is fine, Erwin on loan and Taylor which I will be gutted about but will happen) and in, no idea who they will be but maybe an exp pro in midfield and another CH, who knows but its all good stuff, keep in coming!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

feels different this year:
- decent manager who has PL experience
- manager came in early for proper pre season
- manager is getting players HE wants
- decent players and nice mix of experience and youth/ potential
- players with experience in the English leagues
- MC being very quiet

im liking it.

Looks like we've signed Roofe (according to Oxford Mail) and I for one, think it's a great signing. Beckford came from further down the footballing pyramid than Roofe and although he was only at Oxford (no disrespect) , he has scored 32 goals in 60 starts which is very impressive. I think this lad will only get better and his value will soar.

Oh yeah, may as well mention Jamie Vardy whilst I'm at it - everyone has to start somewhere!

It's good to see we're investing decent money in young players. Could do with Osman in my opinion though - our next Strachan!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 11:49:03
Very disappointed if we spend £3m on Roofe. Hasn't scored a goal outside L2 and for that kind of money we need proven Champ quality. Especially if he is our big summer signing at that kind of money, it means we haven't addressed key positions.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

07 Jul 2016 12:18:40
Disagree SG good pedigree coming from WBA, he is versatile can play anywhere up front and on wings, knows where the net is, quick and strong I believe he will have no problem stepping up, Oxford had to charge 3 mil because of WBA sell on clause, otherwise I reckon we'd have got him for 1.5 mil. I'm becoming more and more convinced about this season people.

It's good that we're getting players in but one released player and 3 loans means Cellino is doing this on the cheap again. Good luck to the players who've come in, but we can't replace everyone we need with loans and released players.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

07 Jul 2016 09:56:52
Thing is Monk is on a rolling one year deal. He can't be looking to buy players who may come good in a season or two. He's got to hit the ground running. I expect most of the signings to be loan or short term and hopefully Monk can get us to a decent finish. Saying that Phil Hey was reporting we could be close to signing Roofe for 3 mil. I'm not sure about the player, but 3 mil is something we haven't shelled out for in a good while.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Jul 2016 10:05:19
Thing with loan players is that they'll get us going and make other players like mowatt or even cookie work for their place, loaning in fresh legs that haven't had more than 1000 minutes for their own clubs means they're keen.

Guys can we not be pleased with the transfer action for a change. We now have a goalkeeper that doesn't think the ball is a hot piece of lava, we have a better central defensive partnership than last season, we probably have the best left and right backs in the championship, we have signed 2 decent midfielders, we have our own youth crop which should be even better this year and on top of that it looks like we are on the verge of signing a striker with loads of potential. If this striker can do it on a bigger stage then the Elland road Roofe will be on fire.
So please see some positives and stop looking for negatives or you will never enjoy what's in front of you.

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Ternana’s forward Felipe Avenatti according to Italian publication Ternana News.

It appears that there could be a feeling of déjà vu at Elland Road this summer as the West Yorkshire club have been linked with Uruguayan forward Avenatti once again.

The Whites failed in a bid to bring the Ternana forward to the club last summer and it appears that despite the arrival of Garry Monk, the club remains interested in signing the forward, with Massimo Cellino reportedly keen.

The 23-year old centre forward managed to score five times and provide four assists in 35 Serie B appearances helping his side finish in 12th place, comfortably in mid-table.

Following the arrival of Christian Panucci and as Avenatti is entering the final year of his contract, it appears that the Serie B may be more inclined to allow the Uruguayan to leave if a transfer fee can be agreed.
