Not sure we need a striker we seem to have a few of those but they never seem to get a run in the side doukra seems to gone off boil sharp who I think would do well with a run in the side dnt get one! Morrison dnt either and he could be a good asset as arial attack as we did with mat smith so strikers ain't our problem midfield and defence need additions a hardman who breaks up play like austin with better engine box to box player and a commanding cb at the back to support cooper

Pete. I like Sharp and I think he's keen to do well. But I see him as a poacher and not sure we have the skill atm for him to be given enough chances to pop em in

Agree0 Disagree0

At the moment, he couldn't poach an egg!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ooo harsh Marciare lol
Maybe if he got a few eggs plopped in his pan, he'd poach one or two.
He has had to scramble to get the opportunity. more egg jokes to follow no doubt

Good post speedy seems to be covering his backside and won't admit he got it wrong not playing him hope the penny dropped now and 442 is way forward and use diamond when we need to!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Let's hope so Pete, because time and excuses are going to be running out for him before too long probably

Agree0 Disagree0

Drastic action needed upfront, we've only scored 2 since November end, 1 being a penalty, defence has only conceded 1 goal more than Brentford who occupy a play off position and there are several teams above us that have conceded more.

Redders in his post match interview:

"I thought Casper Sloth was really good today, he played in that position against Huddersfield and did well, for whatever reason he's been out of the picture but he's took his chance today."

Whatever reason? Unbelievable! Methinks there must be all sorts going on behind closed doors

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Same here, he featured in all the games Redders took charge of earlier in the season which equated to 10 of the points we currently have on the board.

It maybe due to the required involvement of Bianchi and Adryan as Mowatt and Cook are the other 2 in the diamond.

Unbelievable is right, school yard stuff, players in form should play and give young ones a rest and I would play Taylor for Warnock with Berardi on bench. A few players been performing well but hardly get off bench, we have a big squad needs to use it

Taylor??, did you go yesterday??, he was worse than poor, faded toa standstill (Unfit?), and his crossing was appalling

Agree0 Disagree0

It astounds me that it has taken Redfearn 15 games to work out that the diamond formation may not be all that it's cracked up to be. Players like Sloth and Austin will prosper in a midfield 5 as it affords them more freedom with mistakes being mopped up by their team mates. As for reasons why Sloth had not been selected were all because of Redfearn and his blinkered view that only Mowatt, Cook and Bianchi are good enough for his midfield. Hopefully now he has had his light bulb moment he will show flexibility in his formation and the players within it.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's beginning to make me think that Benedicic might now be fully fit again, but Redders has him locked in the cellar 'for whatever reason' lol

Everyone is picking up on this Redfearn comment - rightly. Proves he is not de facto in charge. Cellino is. Bad for team. Hasn't Redfearn experimented in training with Sloth out wide? He must have done. We don't have wingers. Diamonds are for top notch teams even then as a counter tactic. 442 way to go so is using the squad more. If we get couple new players in to add quality and continue to play 442 we will beat the drop.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe he meant to say " for various reasons" not what he actually said, which like you all say made him sound a bit of a duck.

Either way even though none of us are coaches we all knew that the diamond shape was flawed and he should have at least worked on 2-3 others in training.

Any team should be able to play 442, then if away maybe 4231, or 433 at home, but really I would play the players who are in form and in their right/normal positions, any player who plays poor in 3-4 games (Bianchi, Doukarra for sure and last few games Mowatt/cook not done much, I know Redders likes them but we have no players who are un-dropable in my opinion).

For me any of the team that has us 5th from bottom could not really complain to much if they were "rested"

After Sunderland game, I would bring Bryam back but as Warnock injured that it. Midfield really needs looking at for me, will be an interesting call and I would play Montenegro if we play either 1 or 2 up front.

do you judge all players on one game. Suggest you go watch some U21 games and see how they perform. pressure may have got to him a bit but he his usually sound.

Cooper and Del Fabro together, about time, Would play Bellusci or Berardi in the midfield holding role in front of the back four, until we get a proper one, Austin earning a place at the moment but needs to show it every game. Sloth, Adryan and Mowatt fill rest of midfield with Cook and Bianchi off the bench, Ant up front as he is the best we got with Montenegro and Doukara bench Why is it we seem to be able to bring lots of young midfielders through but all of the same mould and way of playing. No hard men. And why can't we bring strikers through the academy Mcdaid top young Irish talent where is he hardly gets a game anywhere.

Sounds like we played a 4-4-2 on the weekend and stayed away from the diamond.

I hope we make signings this month that will allow that formation to flourish.

Yes maybe a striker is needed, but we require genuine width and this must be the priority. I see no point in signing more central players seeing as we are adequately covered here.

BTW, where did Adryan play on the weekend, was he on one of the flank as Austin and Murphy were probably in the central roles.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Or did we play a 4-2-3-1

Agree0 Disagree0

4231 it was with Austin and Murphy as the holders.

Agree0 Disagree0

So it was Monty, Adryan and Sloth just behind.

I like this formation as it allows us to go to 4-4-2 quickly when needed.

We just need to get in a stronger body upfront, probably why we are courting Pavoletti, can hold it up, strong and 6ft2.

I believe Sharp could do this job too, Atenucci as the "impact" sub

Agree0 Disagree0

Antanucci's been one of the stand out players in a poor season. Just needs better supply. Hope it comes at Bolton.

Agree0 Disagree0

Antenucci would be on 15 goals if he was playing for Derby or Bournemouth.

I have said said for sometime that playing the young ones together in the same mid field was/is a mistake. The often look good but there is usually no end product and far too often after'looking good' for periods we get hit with a sucker punch. Too many games has it turned out to be the 'men against boys' scenario. Out fought, out thought then things don't go to plan and the heads go down. That's what happens when there is little experience at the heart of the team. There have been exceptions to this over the years at some clubs but not too often and it certainly isn't the case with this team. We need a Collins/ Bremner/Strachan type player at the very least or the consequences this season could be dire. In addition a striker who can score but has more to his game. I'm not suggesting Bechio should return but he was a player, when at Leeds could score, was decent in the air, could hold the ball up and when things were not going his way he could just be physical up front and pressurise defences. We haven't got a playerr like that at the moment.
On a different front I have also said that on his day Austin is one of our best mid fielders. Sunderland couldn't handle him testerday and he was excellent. Pity he lacks the consistency as, like the it is up front, we have no one like him in the squad at the moment and that is also what we need.
