Hoping Brian has more up his sleeve than Stewart because all a signing like that tells me is that either new owners are not willing to invest the money needed in the team or he's a poor judge of players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Get the new players a chance, we haven't even got them yet. you havent seen the play in a leeds shirt. they might just be the player we need. judge later, support now!

Agree0 Disagree0

Second post. What is the point of judging a player AFTER they have signed when it's too late and we are stuck with yet another average squad player (dead wood as some people insist on calling them). Stewart has played a good few games in the Championship and not made a great impression. If he is all that we can afford, then fair enough, but don't try and sell him as the answer to all our 'winger' problems.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know uch about the player but don't judge someone until half a season as gone. Look at Felaini at everton looked good then moved to mchester and looks out of his depth.

WAIT AND WATCH THEN JUDGE ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Im sure you would have jumped at signing Felainin from everton 3 months ago?
Look at him now looks totally lost at mchester LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

If you only want players who have been there and done that your gunna be stuck with guys 30+ steward could turn out to be the best player in the league, you don't know.

Nicky Maynard is available to loan from Cardiff. We should definitely have a look.

Unless BMd makes good choices in this window I can see him being fired end of season. He is guilty of under using the squad. Varney Poleon and Norris should've had more game time by now thus preserving the first team players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Norris has a long term injury and Poleon will never be good enough i'm afraid. I agree Varney and others should have been used to rest some of the team. Some bad management from McD just lately.

05 Jan 2014 20:11:18
ok so BMD wants 4 new signings and it looks like cameron stewart will be the first. realisticaly who would you have as the other three?

mine would be oliver norwood, chris burke and nakhi wells, leaving a 1st team as follows:

kenny
byram zaliukas (c) pearce warnock
burke norwood mowatt pugh
mccormack wells

subs Cairns Peltier Lees Murphy Austin Stewart Smith

my thought is that the creatiity comes from burke, mowatt and mccormack whilst wells is a poacher. Any other ideas/objections?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That team would still not get us up buddy ( in my opinion )

Dont think were signing Stewart to sit on the bench! Wells and Ross upfront too lightweight imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Would need a left midfielder then, Pugh is too slow to be a winger. Keep him for back up though.

Are fans expecting us to spend 3/4 million on a player or something? Complaining about a cheap signing that 1) hasn't even been signed yet and 2) hasn't sued a game! Judge the signing of Stewart (if he signs) come the end of the season.

ValleyWhite.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You are right on many ways Valley White but at the same time we'll be judging Wootton, Smith, Hunt etc. I still have faith on BMD, like most managers over the last decade he has been hamstrung through lack of financial support. Even after yesterday's depressing result I do have a feeling that we will spend bigger money than we have done in a long while - I'm not in the know though.

I remember pre season I was severely blasted when I said sell byram for 8 mill and invest.
Would he fetch 8 mill touch now?. He's hardly set world alight, I know he's had injuries but he hasn't progressed.
Also very disappointed to be signing Cameron stewart.few good games then he will fade away, only made Charlton bench.hardly be a saviour,
If we have a little money I would look at,
Kevin Phillips and le fondre. Phillips on a free, le fondre would cost.
Gnabry from arsenal though I knows he's getting a slight look in now.even matt Taylor from west ham. All above are quality or experience. Cameron Stewart and a chesterfield chap hardly exciting for us. Look at murphy, he came from lower down and has been disappointing. it's do or die now BMD, get it right, shrew leeds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alright saying that but nobody offered 8 mil for him, palace offered 2 mil and we turned that down, do you seriously think leeds would have turned down 8 mil for any of our player had they been offered it

Please tell me Jimmy Ryan isn't coming to us (Yes, I have watched him and done my homework), a step up from League 2 to Championship is big, I don't feel he is good enough.

This type of player won't get us promoted, I do hope this is just a smoke screen for better players.

QPR looking at signing Jelavic from Everton whilst we are aiming at a League 2 midfielder who has only managed 19 starting appearances in 29 games (inc. cup matches) for a League 2 club, something wrong there surely, especially if we really are aiming for promotion within the next 2 seasons.

I try to look at the positives. but it's hard when we keep being linked with average players, yet again!

Leeds just don't have the financial backing as clubs like qpr and Forrest, BMD has to shop around in lower leagues, what we do get will strengthen the team as I have faith in BMD, THE GUY IS A GOOD CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER resent history shows this, there are a lot of dreamers on here, we getting this player we should get that player, we ain't getting them, until we get to the promised land and the big bucks come a flowing, or until we get some billionaire money spending owners, we only going to get players who have potential not world beaters, MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

But that's all we can afford!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm all for signing the odd lower league starlet however too many & we end up with . a Lower League Team Like all those ex-pompey players colin bought L2. we really should be setting our sights a bit higher ( a lot higher actually).

Agree0 Disagree0

You call yourself sussexleeds yet claim to watch Ryan, I don't think so mate. What do you do travel down every week?

Agree0 Disagree0

OP Here.

I wasn't asking us to have billionaire owners, or to sign Messi or Ronaldo, but have you actually watched Jimmy Ryan before you commented on this?

Average is what I would say, and that's in League 2, some improvement Brian and the team will have to find with him for him to make the grade at Championship level.

I for one am hoping this signing does not materialise, otherwise, to me, it looks like a backwards step.

This is just my opinion of course.

Oh, and I also back the manager fully, despite the abysmal display at Rochdale on Saturday, I know we are one hundred times better than that performance, god knows what got into the lads then (Maybe DJ Campbell ;-))

ED quick question

Peter Virdee - what's your thoughts/views on this guy and LUFC

Hopefully you know or have heard something pal

Cheers mate

Yorkie

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed013's Note - I know that he is a Liverpool fan and has plenty of money, he has also been retweeting a lot of Leeds fans comments on twitter, but a part of me thinks that it is a wind-up! If it is then it is unfair on misleading everyone like he has. He is based in London and it would make sense if true as David Haigh is down there a lot so could have something to do with it}

Cheers ED

But his interest maybe the redevelopment land rather than the club/team? What do you think

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed013's Note - Possibly, for him to go to the extent of winding the fans up in the way he has I think would be out of order}

05 Jan 2014 18:48:34
surely if this was a wide up Haigh would put a stop to it by dismissing it out right and not let it rumble on or is he that stupid

Just throwing a name out there who is available for what I would think a small fee. Nuneatons keeper kelle roos. Paddy is doing a good job but if we are to improve and challenge we need to improve every position.

Just watched forest -WHam game - nice to see a team that can string some passes. Well done forest made leeds look like a bigger joke!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

BMD needs to sit down with his squad and watch Forest's performance this afternoon. They played with heart, confidence, desire and skill.
Hate to say it but we are a million miles from that level at the moment. We might sneak into play=offs but I think next season more likely for promotion. We need better quality players, too many similar journeymen midfielders etc, in short a clear out and recruitment of better players. MOT Ron.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 15:39:08
Forest certainly made a mockery of the excuse that our players are weary. Why aren't theirs? they have played the same number of games. The reason imo is that Forest have invested over a period of time and ultimately have better players because of this. We are currently years behind them in investment terms but the long road back began in the summer and will hopefully continue in each transfer window from now on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Players Leeds possibly should and could have signed but didn't;

Martin (Derby) free
Lewis McGuigan
David McGoldrick
Jamie ward (Portsmouth)
Eric Llihaj (forest) Free
Dawkins
Dorrans
Adomah
Christophe Barre (excuse spelling) Wolves
Kris Commons
Tommy Spurr
Chris Eagles
Neil Danns
Sammi Ameobi
Oliver Norwood
Paul Gallagher
Martyn Woolford (Millwall)
Knockaert (Leicester)
Ross Barkley
David Templeton ( Glasgow Rangers)

Bringing in 4 or 5 of these players permanent or loans could just have altered the team mentality, our formation and the football style on show at Elland Road.

Plenty of options there, I accept the matter of finances plays a big part in the game, and our club should know more than others what the consequences are from overspending big style. But the players above aren't bank breakers and bringing some of them in would be a marginal financial risk.

I just fear Leeds as a club have got into a rutt of buying unknowns who are not of the quality in talent to make a difference.
This needs to change now.

What are other opinions, cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever happens BMD needs to get us playing with the ball on the floor, passing and moving, we look tired because hoofball football is spent with long periods without the ball and it's harder playing without the ball than with it

Agree0 Disagree0

Ross Barkley is priced at £35 million+. but the rest I agree they were realistic targets we failed to approach/secure.

Agree0 Disagree0

£35million and Warnock didn't even want to put him on the pitch, person!

Hi eds do we have a leeds rumours league in the fantasy premier league? I'm registered in the football transfer rumours league. If so could you repost pin please. Thanks

{Ed013's Note - I will have a look for it mate, there was one but don't have it to hand}

Today I've heard that we are interested in chesterfield midfielder jimmy Ryan so I contacted my mate Ryan who supports them and he told me that he has heard interest in him from us and that he is a good player who he would like to see make the step up in leagues and that would be a good signing for us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are more likely to be signing Jimmy Ryan from Saving Private Ryan!

So long as this is sorted I am happy - West Ham 0-3 down as I type this. Teams from lower down divisions do spring surprises .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

5-0 to the Forest. Random results do happen (though I'm not sure we qualify for 'random'). Marching on together (just). In Brian McD we trust .

Current Position. Central defenders - not bad individually. Mid field Austin being allowed to roam around the pitch trying to be 'creative' is a mistake. He is at best a purely defensive mid fielder who should play just in front of the back 3/4 - winning balls, breaking up play and playing simple balls to colleagues. The odd surging run allowed! Mowatt and Murphy too light wight and inexperienced at this level to play in the same mid field. Ross needs some like a Blackstock(Preferably same style but better) to allow him to play and get into the positions he wants. Smith is still learning and is only an impact player at best and invites long hopeful long balls. Poleon needs to go out on loan to develop - all at sea in this division. We have a decent nucleus but team looks bad overall because we are constantly under pressure due to lack of quality and experience in mid field, lack of width and quality strikers. We have one only. To make an impact in the second half of the season we need Two experienced midfielders with proven ability in the division or above, at least one winger with pace and strength (Ariyibi might have pace but he is so light weight he lacks any penetration) and a striker who complements Ross. Back up for Kenny if Cairns is not trusted. Therefore at least four/five decent signings needed. Mcdermott will have to earn his money if we are going to get them. Signing Cameron Stewart is not filling me with confidence. Hope I am wrong.

Guys, I think I know what our problem could be playing away, it's that ridiculous creamy, beige, yellowy, pukey coloured away strip, we need to get rid, it's a bad luck charm

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2014 15:41:29
I think it's more likely the lack of quality in midfield. Hopefully 8 to 10 players will be released in the summer and the major work can begin.

Agree0 Disagree0

No: I think the first post is right. Although our midfield is flimsy and McCormack is over-stretched, the real problem is that revolting away strip. How did they allow that to happen?! When Revie emulated the great Real Madrid side in favour of a majestic all white our luck started to change for the better. What worse indication of intent is there than to drape our heroes in a kind of chlamydial-discharge/cheap undercoat arrangement? Come on Kit Men. Ditch the switch. PK

Leeds are so 1 dimentional at the moment with smith playing up front. Its hoof & hope. No plan b at all. We should be resting mccormack etc instead of running him into the ground. He gets injured & we r stuffed. Not too overwhelmed at stewart signing so i'm hoping that more money available for another striker & midfield etc. i'm ashamed to be Leeds today, doubt the players are. Mot

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Never be ashamed to be a Leeds Utd supporter! Don't let the poor performances of some of the players drag you and the name of the Club down. The Club is bigger than any individual or group of players. Any player not worthy of representing the Club won't be around for long!

Let's break down yesterday's player performances!
Kenny - did well with what he could
Peltier - very average
Pugh - same as peltier
Pearce - dip in form is worrying
Zalukias - not played well for couple of weeks now
Wooton - looks like a conference player
Byram - huffed and puffed all day
Austen - should not be captain lost is bottle in tackles and second to everything
Murphy - step up to championship one step too far not had a good game since Brighton
Maccormack - not getting same service as before so getting dragged wide to get some ball which makes him in affective
Smith - when he plays we always play long boy which makes us so predictable although not is fault he Is getting picked to start
Macdermot - questions have got to start being asked
He gets paid to managed and book stops with him

BMcD record in the transfer market so far at Leeds is not great.

Murphy - £1m (paid over the odds)
Hunt - Top earner (Ouch!)
Wooton - £? (average player)
Zaliukas - Best signing so far
Smth - Causes hoofball

Best players were already at he club

Ross, Byram, Kenny, Pearce.

I reckon this could be BMcD's last go at the transfer market for Leeds unless he gets 3 or 4 top signings that become first team regulars.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If it is his last chance it hasn't t started off too well. We ll be adding Stewarts name to that list of Murphy, Hunt, Wooton etc because he is very average. It annoys me that Brian says he won't bring in players for the sake of it, yes he is a winger but we need a better player than him

Cant believe your judging wootton after yesterday he's been out injured for 6 weeks it was his first start since charlton away give the lad a chance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with this post. Now is not the time to buy potential, we need players who regularly produce 7, 8 and 9 out of 10 in the Championship. Stewart has never set the division alight and probably never will I'm afraid.

well that was just plain embarassing today, that team does not deserve the fantastic support it gets. the only thing that makes me proud to be a leeds united fan at the moment is the fans! sell out every away game even though we play sh%te football! the fans deserve better! were like a poor mans west ham united or stoke city at the mo, just aload of long ball rubbish! we need at least 6/7 quality players to get us out of this league, if not there's more chance of league 1 than premiership football again! #leedsnotinthepremfor10yearswhat adisgrace!

Leeds look st to sign cameron stewart ahead of takeover which will enable the club to purchase wells and le fondre. Personally I think we neee a new number 1 goalkeeper and wingers as the main priority but those strikers will be good to help mccormack

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why do we need a number 1 goalkeeper? do you go to games, Kenny player of season so far with McCormack

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 11:28:56
I go the vast majority of home games and have been to 7 away games and kenny has let the side down a number of times with stupid mistakes. His age is also a factor as we are building for the future and kenny won't have that many years left

Agree0 Disagree0

Paddy kenny has been fantastic? what games have you been watching with out him we would be in the bottom half

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2014 12:52:56
If you go to majority of games maybe you don't know kennys the fella between the sticks in green! You know the block that stops the score becoming embarrassing week in week out!

Agree0 Disagree0

Neil Warnock is a tool, but the one think he got right was Kenny, he's an experienced and commanding keeper and we will struggle to find better for the money Leeds can pay.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kenny is not the problem. He does make occasional errors but all keepers do in this league in particular. The problem is that it appears we do not have a trusted number 2 at the moment with Ashdown seemingly out indefinitely. Also Ashdown no youngster. If as it seems (despite Kenny unable to kick ball he wasn't used) Cairns is not trusted then we need another keeper who BM will be happy to use. If we are bringing someone in then it makes sense that it is someone who will be Kenny's long term replacement.
