I like the cut of his jib.
Quietly confident. Positive. And most important he never said the word "president".
Who knows maybe he will be allowed to manage? I doubt it, but you never know.

See the negitivty leave for short while, this is what I was saying few weeks back, I was hopeful and think we can't twist knife too early. Last year manager says top 10 is best we can hope for, this year he says promotion, mc promises money back unless top 6. Time for some smiles and hope the time to go mob will back off for little while and this site can be about banter and getting behind our team mot.

So now Monk has been appointed I decided to look at swanseas team and see who might join us to link up with monk again.

1. Kyle Bartley
He has shown some promise but is struggling to make it into the first team and is stuck behind Ashley Williams in the pecking order. He is only 24 I think and if we get back to the prem he could make the England squad if given game time.

2. Raheem Hanley
A young left back who was released by Swansea recently. Would be perfect for providing depth at left back and probably would be a good replacement if Taylor leaves

3. Leon Britton
A good experienced midfielder. Ages 32 and with his contract expires next summer in 2017, he could come cheap as Swansea would happily take whatever money we give them for him

4. Eder
The Portuguese 27 yr old striker. He spent this season on loan at LOSC in France. Would probably struggle to get above Gomis and Emnes in the pecking order so might leave on loan. He would be really good as a striker who hangs behind a player like Wood and plays balls through, creating a chance on goal.

Decent appointment, does like to play attacking football. Did well in his first and only full season with swansea. Young and ambitous think best we could do. let's hope he gets bscking from fans as well as cellino.

Personally I'm delighted.
At this point in time I don't think we could get any better.
Can he persuade Ashley Williams to drop down a league?
Could he get Michau back from the continent?
Get the two in from Barnsley and were sorted.
Have I woken up yet?
Leeds Leeds Leeds.
I'm optimistic and a tad excited.
Where's MM's sister in law. I need a release.

Need to get those contracts sorted and start shopping - let's hope that the ambition is infectious and we can retain and attract the players we need so we can really compete for the top spot - maybe I am getting ahead of myself or maybe it's just my passion but I have a good feeling. I hope it lasts😜.

Mon as a Centre Back so hopefully he can quickly get to grips with our defensive woes. After that it's all go with his front foot attacking philosophy. That should bring the crowds back and rack up the points.

Bit 'Gingeist' there Lancaster eh old boy? Just because he's ginger, doesn't mean he'll get picked on, towel snapped and his head flushed down the toilet at Thorpe Arch. Hang on, he might do. Scrub that last bit.

Yes George obviously we'll support him to the hilt. just hope he's not like one of the fat wheezy boys that sits it out while the young bloods link arms and go for the final scrum down, if you'll pardon the expression. Hahaha no mick I hadn't (hardly) noticed the ginger hair . Let's just hope it's him doing the head flushing lol.

Don't think any manager at Leeds needs to a tough nut at the moment. Not sure we have many strong characters in the dressing room.

I for one am very pleased we have a young and hungry English manager! I reckon he will do as well as anyone could do at Leeds at the moment, just hope MC backs him with a few quid to spend.

Heard when he takes his first training session he will concentrate on ball retention so that each player can regard themselves as a Trappist Monk. Plus hearing preseason will be set in Tibet. His appointment could also be a real blessing because if results are good MC will shut his trap to the media and take a vow of silence.

Just hope i'm saying same in 6 months.
Now we need some new proper championship players.

I think we could have got better, but not complaining, it would have cost serious money and Cellino doesn't do that.

Can't see Monk being a 'special' one but quite prepared to give him time to settle and and hopefully get a few players in where we are lacking.

Just been watching ssn and they used this stat that on average cellino gives a manager 6 months to prove themselves. Is that not long enough. This was ssn statistics not mine.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

02 Jun 2016 17:09:47
Problem with that Wex is Alex F would have failed and no doubt a fair few others as well.

I guess it depends on how things are not working after 6 months so it is not black and white but you can't keep getting rid of people as much as he has as 1) it don't work, 2) cost loads, 3) er that it really it just doesn't work.

Hopefully The monk will do enough in 6 months and build towards a strong performance in the second half of season, just don't expect miracles in the first 6 months just a reasonable improvement on this year and if he does that then should be given another 6 months and so on.

That's got to count for something, surely! ;)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

02 Jun 2016 15:50:53
We have all seen it, but Monk hasn't had a long managerial career as such?

I'm happy to wait and see, hopefully this is at least a manager/ coach with experience above ours for the last few years?

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jun 2016 14:18:23
I need to see Monk's contract. Couldn't care less what he's earning but does he have complete and utter control over team signings, team selection and playing strategy. Where's Wikileaks when you need them?
Hopefully his first job is to change all the locks at Thorpe Arch and keep that man out.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jun 2016 13:41:16
am I the only one who thinks this is a bad appointment? Cellino said more or less the same thing about the previous 6 coaches and look what happened to them. 36% win rate and only managed 1 team for 1 and a bit seasons is not what we need. we need someone who as proven promotion challenging experience who knows what it takes to get out of this difficult league. I hope he gets sacked as soon as possible because then at least we will be closer to getting cellino out and still have time to rescue the season and get a proven coach in.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

02 Jun 2016 13:47:42
so you hope he gets sacked? so you hope leeds lose? so you hope leeds don't go up? this is a lees fans website mate, you might get sluaghtered for that. I hope he is in the job ten years before he sufferes defeat. but then I am crazy I want leeds to do well.

with regards to him only having one club, everyone starts somewhere look at eddie howe or even the don not much experience but they did ok. I think this is a decent appointment and he is better than the fat man.

Agree4 Disagree0

02 Jun 2016 13:53:00
I am more concerned that Cellino won't keep his promise of real investment in the playing squad, I base this on the fact Monk has only been given a years contract with the possibility of another year if he does well.

We also need to tie down the likes of Cook, Taylor to longer contracts.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jun 2016 14:10:06
Not excited but then again not dissappointed. I suppose curious is the nearest word. He IS the manager so let's all get behind him and see if he lights up our world with some quality signings. MOT.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jun 2016 15:57:53
FFS give the guy a chance? I would have been very disappointed if we had got Robinson or Clarke, a total downward step from Evans?

This guy has a lot of experience actually playing and only one managerial position wherein he got Swansea promoted to the premier?

For me this is the best manager Cellino has got in, okay not the best we have had or got rid of, but let's be thankful we didn't get Robinson or another Hockaday?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he never got Swans promoted. He took over after they were established in the Prem.}

02 Jun 2016 17:38:39
Bermondsy white I hope i'm wrong but who wanted him after he got sack at Swansea? where's he been for a year? why is it that we always get coaches nobody wants? everyone forgot about Garry Monk up until 2 days ago then all of a sudden he's the right man for leeds utd. And yes I do love Leeds but the quicker he gets sack the quicker cellino go's because whos going to go watch the same rubbish as last season? its ok for us leeds fans to love leeds utd but as Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. that quote is Cellino all over insane.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jun 2016 12:53:11
Ola me Amigo du Leedios

back from sunny spain with good tan but three stone bigger and liver in tatters.

So we have monk, not my first choice but decent and think a step up from SE who was decent but had about as much chance of getting leeds promoted as doing a one handed pull up.

only 12 months but I think that makes sense, makes manager work harder and if it goes wrong less when sacking how manay mangers tie in long contract then do bad and get sacked.

linked with some good players so holding out for some hope. let's be honest some have us dead and buried so if we stay up that is a good season in their eyes. I think we might suprise a few.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

02 Jun 2016 12:32:55
If Cellino offers Monk only a one year deal, it doesn't look like he is the 'special' manager he was banging on about. Doesn't show much confidence in his selection to me. Will this have any effect on the likes of Charlie Taylor when it comes to deciding whether to stay or go?

MM.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

02 Jun 2016 12:45:50
Agree 1 year deal shows lack of confidence and ensuring that he can sack the chap without losing too much cash. Doesn't give me any confidence that Monk will be given the time to build the team and to correct matters if everything doesn't go to plan from the start which often it doesn't. Good appointment in the circumstances but still laves a lot of uncertainty and doubts because of the contract. Cellino and Monk have already disagreed about the No. 2. Doesn't bode well. Just have to wait and see as usual.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Jun 2016 13:14:24
again negitive for sake and MC and manager can't win, many have said we want someone to stand up to mc and keep him out of football matters, monk has stood up to mc and mc has let monk take charge. this is a positive and what people wanted nothing negitive with this.

BW I'm not being negative for the sake of it as suggested. I could accuse you of being completely blinkered and oppose anything bad said about Cellino but I don't. For the record, I think he has made a good appointment but if we were to believe his spin about the next manager of Leeds being special yaddy ya, then surely he should've backed him with a longer contract. He says the right things in a press conference but rarely backs them up. Just saying!

Oh yeah and welcome home!

Nit you mm your post make sense are balanced and iften very funny I was on about Hess. Everyone saying we need a manger to stand up to mc and when monk does he says this is bad, I see fault in mc but there is so much bias against him and some is unfounded or kicking him befor he does it. Like this example if monk caved and used mc man most of us inckuding me would be moaning and saying this is bad however the opposite happens and he still gets moaned about by Hess. Some people just can't win, let's hope monk for Leeds ain't one of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jun 2016 16:25:00
No worries BW. Call me Mad Paranoid Mick from now on lol!

Fair point what you're saying. I'm actually pleased we've got Monk. He may not be first choice as manager but he may have stumbled on the best candidate by his failure to land one of the others. He's young, ambitious and has Premier experience albeit for only 20 months.

I only wish he'd offered him a two or three year deal to give us a bit of stability and maybe reassure the young bucks that the future is bright at Leeds.

MPM.

02 Jun 2016 12:30:51
All things considered, I think it's a good appointment. He is only young in managerial terms and while he will have been disappointed to have been sacked by Swansea, it's all part of the experience in football and you always learn more from failure than success!

It matters less who Cellino appoints what matters is - will he support him? Will he not interfere? Will he give him time?
Maybe Cellinos next court case (of which there are many) will see him banned for a whole season. Leave the team/ manager to get on with the job.
I wonder if Monk realises that if he doesn't get the team into the top 6 then all the season ticket refunds come from his salary.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jun 2016 12:06:22
Monk inherited a decent squad at Swansea and git the mid table, which us okay.
My point is this us way different to a) building a new squad in the championship and b) challenging for promotion.
I actually like the idea of young and English and the way Swansea played was pleasing to the eye, but hope he's given time and funds but most importantly backing to build.
Re: Alternatives, Flores maybe, and I liked Clarke at Bristol, or even heckonbottom at Barnsley or even Lennon?
BUT Monk is in so all this is pure conjecture!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

02 Jun 2016 12:27:43
Not sure about the squad but he took over from Laudrup who had them near the bottom of the table. Without checking on Wikipedia, I thought he kept them up that year and was offered a contract. The following full season he had with them, he got them a top ten (isn) finish and their best points haul in the Premier league, so not a bad start to a managerial career. We'll forgive him the little blip the season after.

Monk if confirmed later today is a very good appointment imho and looks to be the first real positive for some time . I see it as a sign of intent? . Well I agree. Don't know much about him but he seems to a better option than most of the names being touted around, and he's not Italian, so maybe MC is slowly learning something. Feel sorry for SE, and yes I would have kept him, but to be honest I don't think that was ever MC's intention.
Now let's see who we sign, and who we keep. But there should be no reason for any player to demand to go because of the coach we have signed.

I would say it is a good day for Leeds Utd. not because of him but due to the fact I won't have to watch/ listen to that sh** advert that our ex sponsor Crossway or whatever they are called (bathroom products) have on the screen at Elland Rd, it was very annoying ha ha.

So yes my fellow fans let's rejoice today in the fact that at least MC has seemed to have made a good decision with logic re appointing Monk, most people can see why he has done that for the club.

hope he gets at least a 2 year deal not a 12 month rolling thing.
