George I know I was critical of your chant for our top goal scorer but your a bit of a wordsmith so I was thinking about a tune and maybe you can do something with wooden heart by the king.

Thanks wex. I'll look at it but from memory that song has some German in it so could prove tricky. I felt MM came up with a good chant for Pontus. Maybe he can come up with something.

Tell Pops I'm very pleased with my team. A good winter window is a must to take pressure off Wood who surely can't keep scoring week in week out.

Wex mate love that song, maybe another song by the King could be easier George, I wouldn't mind belting out a few chants about our players to the tune of Elvis.

Well said MM I'm not a woods fan tbh but give the lad his due, his work rate when not scoring is pretty good, and he dnt give up like some we've had! But yes judge him at end of season and where we are, we are still a team in the making so march on together!

I think I realize why some don't rate Wood. he's a bit awkward. Shoulde win more headers and misses some absolute sitters.
However if he were to get injured then maybe people might notice just how important he is to Leeds.
We don't look nowhere near as effective when he's not playing.
And that is a fact!

Agree corky, whether on bench or playing on his day he's a handful reminds me a bit of viduka.

Viduka. You being sarcastic by any chance Pete?

Pete, you're suggesting he reminds you of the best number 9 we have ever had?!

Get it right Ben. Second best ever. Best number nine ever for us was a guy called Allan Clarke. Not much between them but Clarke has the edge on the Aussie imo.

Aye. Good old sniffer was a class above.

25 Sep 2016 22:35:55
Alan Clarke was number 8 inside right in old money Mick Jones was number 9.

Agree only on Sniffer Clarke. But he had players like Lorimer and Eddie and Jones backing him up. Think pablo will help wood and hope sacko or roofe start scoring.

Thought Clarke was number 8?

Jones was the number 9 not clarke.

I'm loving the general look of our team right now. The back five look more solid than anything we have had post prem, Bridcutt and O'Kane will keep most teams quiet in the centre and we have a striker that's scoring. My major concern though is where are the goals going to come from?
Last year we scored too few by far (51/ 52 something along those lines) , top six teams usually hit 70+ and I cannot see us currently getting anything like that. If Wood continues to score 25 would represent a good return for the season. Dallas and Hernandez average about 5 a piece and Sacko looks to probably have the same in him. Bridcutt and O'Kane won't score and the back four might chip in 6-7 between them. that's a first team return of around 47, do we have 25 goals on the bench? Mowatt has goals in him, but its not working for him right now, Antonsson is struggling with the higher quality of keeper in this league and Roofe doesn't look anywhere near as rampant. Can we squeeze the goals from these guys or who do we need to bring in (and who gets the axe) ?
Sorry guys, long rambling thought over, was bored and doing the maths in my head and the numbers seemed a little low, wondered what everyones views are.

Gummie

Said the same thing a month ago. We've got around 55 goals in us for the season right now. Needs to be in the high 60s for a playoff berth. It's not a disaster though. If we finish 8th we can build on it represents progress. That said, I'd love us to get Rhodes and Crouch in January.

25 Sep 2016 16:30:26
Take your point Gummie and after yesterday things are a lot more positive but for me paticularly Roofe looks along way off being a succesful championship striker I think the midfield will have to contribute more to the goal tally to give us a real chance.

George agree with Rhodes would have him drop of a hat, don't agree with Crouch, because of his height, teams with him in get lazy and just start lumping it up front to him.

As we are more solid defensively our attacking players will come more to the fore and if we create the chances some of the other players will start taking them Don't tell me some of our other players won't put the ball in the net if the chances come to them!

We are just coming together as a team and hopefully will see a lot more from some of our attacking players.

That would be the beauty and genius in getting Crouch. We are now playing reasonable football not hoofball. So don't think we'd fall into the trap of lumping it up there just because we had Crouch. Crouch would be dangerous from set plays. Don't underestimate the value of snaring a goal from a corner or free kick especially against the run of play. He would add another dimension giving opponents yet more to worry about.

Once January comes along I hope Cellino twists instead of stick because I believe we will be thereabouts and adding more goal threat will be critical.

Defensively we haven't looked this good in I don't know how long and from reading around the more intelligent press it's close to the stage now where Pontus and Bartley are acquiring reputations which are intimidating the opposition. Don't think anyone in our league wants to play us and that's a good thing.

Regarding the defence, the best I've seen since the prem days has got to be Kissa and Nails. Give it a few more months and our new promising duo could be the best I've seen in a LU shirt for a long time.
Just hope we can sign them permanently in Jan or next summer.

So firstly, yes Kisnorbo and Naylor would be my second best central pairing, was a lower league after all, but I'm talking as a complete back 5 Lucas (otherwise Kasper and Byram would be in) .
As for Rhodes George he would be a huge signing, but in the current system he would just replace Wood. As a potential 30 goal striker that only bumps us up by 2.5 goals over the second half (assuming that Woods run does continue) , still leaves us well short. Any change, for me, has to come either in the middle (O'Kane or Bridcutt with zero predicted goals) or the attacking mid (Dallas, Hernandez or Sacko because forward thinking players should be hitting 8-10 not 4-5) . Had hoped Roofe would be the one to do it, or maybe a Mowatt resurgence but looks unlikely.

hey up guys couldn't make the game yesterday but listened to Popey and noels great commentary of the game and sounds like we battered them and really should have been more! My main comment is I have to say hats off to woody because I have not always liked his performances of the games I have watched but this run of form from the team has helped him with his confidence and lifted his performance level, all he has to do now is show more consistency and he will easily hit 20 + goals this season, his record of 20 in 48 apps is not to be sniffed at by anyones standards although I agree he should be on 30 going on chances missed but having said all that at this present moment in time he is doing what he is getting paid for and banging in the winners, woody lad over to you MOT.

On holiday chaps.
Good to read all the posts.
Think defence solid and giving others confidence.
Well done lads and monk.
Ok. Now wood. 4+ in October mate and you'll win me over.
Team looking good and getting better. Wish sacko carries on improving cause I was impressed the other week.

This is not supposed to happen Leeds winning 4 in a row is supposed to be impossible and has caused me to question the big issues of life. Cosmology: Does the earth spin around on an axis Yes as the song says "At least until the world stops spinning round Na Na Na" Philosophy:I think therefore I am NOT AUSMAN. Religion: There is no God if there was he wouldn"t let manchester united win. Evolution: This is true and I've seen proof overy the last few weeks as people who were saying Leeds United were going to be relagated have now evolved to positive people.
