Maybe Arsene Wenger fancies a new challenge taking over an improving Championship club in West Yorkshire.

Does it smell of 3 things- AR not happy with last season "a failure" so doubt in his mind about Garry, poor start, poor finish, some lucky wins, so wanted another looksee hence the one year offer and prob delaying tactics on the 3 year deal. Monk also worried about 17/18 so wanted the concrete 3 year deal (not a maybe) . If funds were being diverted to the Thorpe Arch successor and upgrades to ER maybe he was concerned about transfer funds. AR prob was being a bit vague about that as well. Lastly with all the new bodies moving in he was worried of his transfer input and the situation of being given a player who he is not happy with and being told "go on the Coach him" If we all agree that Monk is not a fool then it is only right to think that some lucrative offer is (and has been) laying on a table somewhere awaiting his signature.

The top six managers in the premiership and five of the top six in the championship were all foreign so I think we can expect a foreign manager now as Norwich already have done. Question is why are foreign managers more successful?

Ed007 You have the ability to study it from afar and even sometimes pack your bag and go join it

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - But it's a bit of a trek going to Germany or Spain to watch decent football. You English should try it though, you might learn something about how to play the game. Let's face it, the English game can do with all the help it can get right now with all that money swirling about and yet the standard of football is utter garbage with no passion or atmosphere, it's a shame.}

What about bringing Warnock back?

Remember how Burton and Norwich were "cup finals" according to Monk, yet we still played one up front and didn't starting attacking till we were behind. He's not some God like messiah.

Glad he has gone. Very limited tactition. didn't deserve more than a year. Only did half the job last year. I reckon radz plan is coming together. Mark my words. This man is a thinker and planner and knows exactly what he is doing.

A few people seem to be worried that Bartley won't return now Monk has gone, but it also means neither will Barrow and Grimes! Every cloud! 😁

New poster, been a Leeds fan since 1972 FA cup win. growing up down south wanted to follow different team to all my mates. Felt compelled to comment about monk leaving. My son and myself, plus nephew travel up to ER as often as finances allow. Monk did a good job but not great job. If he has (as rumoured) had his head turned by the lure of a prem club, then good luck to him.

But as disappointed as many fans will be, No one person is bigger than our club. I've seen a lot of crap times following Leeds, and many good ones. With the right manager in to steer the ship, we will head in the right direction. Good luck to monk, there is no loyalty in football

Don't get the hate towards Karanka. In two full seasons at Boro, he had playoff final and promotion, which is better than we've done recently. His style of play is no more boring than Monk's tbh. I'd love Grayson ideally, just imagine his attacking football with our defence. Imo he'd have got us promoted this season with the same team.

Please no.

25 May 2017 21:14:30
Don't get me wrong. I like Monk and wanted him to stay. But let's face it. He wasn't perfect, and it's not impossible we can get someone better. The football for much of the season wasn't great. We rode our luck on many occasions. We collapsed at the end. Lots of positives as well of course. Steadied the ship. Brought harmony back. Owed our thanks for that. Big call now for Radz. Just please pick someone who believes we can get promotion. Don't really think Monk ever thought that

Believable2 Unbelievable0

25 May 2017 21:39:47
Spot on. People are getting too carried away. Yes we did a lot better, because we had a better team than last season. Think a better manager would've got us up.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 May 2017 21:43:21
You don't believe Monk thought we'd get promotion? I'd say it crossed his mind a few times. We weren't good enough simple. Monk done a great job creating team sprit and brought in players like we ain't seen since premier league days. Don't forget what he did. After the previous jokes of manager that Cellino brought in the man and his staff were amazing.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 May 2017 21:44:37
Speedy, Think we all loved the belive we got back. But, we had a 8 point advantage over 7th place. We finished 5 point's behind 6th place. I think Monk couldn't finish of the job, same as he couldn't stop the rot at Swansea, was it 11 games without a win? Not that bothered he's gone, better out there. Hope we pick a gem.

For me a really exciting sign for us is the list of early favourites we have been liked with! They may not be everyone's choice, but they are big names. i'm not overly fussed if we don't appoint a huge name as I think this seasons proved that's not always a banker, but the quality who are mentioned is a huge step away from the dross we have be linked with in previous situations such as these! Happy times people! waht a great week it's been for our beloved club!

Reflecting on what has happened with Monk, I just feel sad and angry, thought we had put all the crap behind us . You cannot buy stability. A years hard work down the drain. Now we have to start again . Monk gives the impression it was about the vision of how to bring the club forward. That to me is either who will have the final say on the team selection and recruitment ( manager/coach Monk or director of football /Bravo ) or the budget available for recruitment . Rads needs to step up to the plate now and start spending some proper dough as cannot see the faithful putting up with a lack of investment and the club going backwards again .

If Simon Grayson is the answer, what on earth is the question? ! ? Please God let's show some ambition and stop looking back to the past. Be there, seen it, don't want it again. Got to be someone with a track record of promotion in this league.

I think the double whammy will be when Monk is soon unveiled as a premier league manager and announces his back room team to be Pep and Beattie. Would refer these two to stay on. As pointed out in another post, Pep was probably the brains behind the team. Let's hope we make an appointment quickly before the players start getting itchy feet! Bit worried about getting Karanka after he threw his teddies out the year Boro went up at a crucial stage in their season. MM

25 May 2017 20:46:31
But mick that's the thing. he still got them up. He didn't spend half the season in relegation form! If both clubs did a swap I know I'd be happier than they would be!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

25 May 2017 18:20:05
Be very interested to hear Monkeys reasons, although I am sure it will most likely be Boro related with far superior salary and playing budget. BUT this is not a criticism, it's just Monkey has always portrayed himself as someone who is quick to jump on anything contrary to the Team vision and objective. I like Monkey and I'm grateful for his efforts, he did us a lot of good and lest we forget we did him a lot of good. I'm actually reflecting it's a great opportunity though, there were six managers better than Monkey last year, and I recognise as others that Pep is a significant part of that success more than Monkey would probably like us to know. Anyway, I also don't get why Karanka gets bad press (name aside MM) think he's a far more proficient tactically savvy coach than Monkey. Think Pep will go too, but would not be adverse to promoting him at all. Exciting times, look who we might get, could get much as I loathe the man there's another Wagner out there somewhere.

Pretty gutted tbh regarding monk. But as a Leeds fan nothing shocks me anymore! Monk could have made himself a legend at this great club! Oh well! Just praying to god we don't get hodgson, zola or moyes! That will just about finish me off!

Well personally i'm gutted! All the names linked are a bit bland for me. Not a visionary to take this club forward. Rad's seems to be a visionary. Now I am not a big fan of doing this but it is absolutely a must promote PEP! He has been the brains and gel behind it all season

Believable1 Unbelievable0

25 May 2017 16:54:57
Good shout Mighty old boy. Maybe, just maybe, he had a better bond with the players thank Monk and may be able to keep hold of Pontus and bring Bartley back. Could be a masterstroke. We know that Radz wants an all Spanish back room, so maybe this was his plan all along! MM

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 May 2017 15:55:24
club statements says: 'during the second meeting yesterday it became clear that Garry was considering life beyond Leeds United as at no time did Garry wish to discuss terms for a longer contract'.

so was Garry really not bothered about an extension or is this just spin from the club to cover up what really happened? If there is one thing Radz definitely knows about, its PR.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 May 2017 15:50:27
what's everyone got against Karanka?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 May 2017 15:59:18

Ok so my Mr Monk has gone. Walk of his own volition. Thanks for restoring our credibility and please close the door on your way out. Short sighted of him in my view but the number me name on any list must be mr popular himself, Nigel Pearson. With the exception of Derby, his record stacks up. He knows the league and will attract players. That said, anyone but Karanka please! MOT

I was always against the negativity of the 'Cellino out' group some of the things they said and posted were appalling and I told them so on a number of occasions when they were demonstrating outside the ground. Some of the things Cellino did were not mainstream but overall we are much better off because of his three year tenure. Last season was the best for a long time both on and off the pitch and a far cry from Ridsdale, Bates GFH and the rest. I hope he comes back to see us one soon - when we are back in the premiership. His contribution should not be overlooked.
