Anyone else think we should try Ayling at CB on Tuesday? If pilot or bart's gets injured then we should start to think what else? Beradi's coming back and Coop's is 3rd choice but not really shone at this level yet.

Without Jansson I worry it might be a bloodbath. Defence haven't shown they're good enough without him.

Yes you have a good point as Cooper is not good enough, the difference these two have made, just think a quality striker and we may start to break into top six .

Wouldnt start Berardi, Coyle with him coming on for the last half hour would be better, let's not rush him back when we don't need to.

SG, we need to rest players so they don't burn out or get injured for the play off final :) Gummie, I forgot about Coyle, good shout. Shows we have strength in depth and options. We need 1 or 2 more options in attack now. Anyone know of any youth CB players that could be ready to step up?

Where never going to score many goals with the type of midfield players we have and the one up front, but where seeing really progress from the back going through the team and slowly but surely where getting there, I'd personally rip Monk's contract up and give him a 3 year deal it sorts out a better future for Monk the players and the club as a whole.

Couldn't agree more. We defended well again yesterday and the midfield is starting to gel. Still think it's a risky style of play going for the 1-0 wins, we've only got to look at Wigan and Derby where we were content sitting back. Still 10th in the table at this stage is spot on and hopefully come another 2 months we will have cemented a position in the top 6.

JT It's not as risky as trying to do something we can't like play teams off park and score for fun. We don't have the players for that. The system Monk has in place is the optimal one for our club right now. It's by definition the least risky! I said when Bridcutt came we wouldn't concede 3 in a league game very often this season. So far Forest and that was in injury time. I'm very happy with Monk and if he can teach Sacko and Roofe end product we got a real good shot at 6th.

Didn't qpr score 3 too George? Mind you that was before jansson I guess.

We got a lot of young players out there and its about getting the confidence and belief into them. Roofe gets to start a couple and he's on the score sheet, he will want more now. Once sacko gets one his confidence in himself will go up. Think Monk is doing well with them and I like the way we are playing. My worry is plan b if sacko is out.

a win against norwich would let other teams know we are back.

A win and then a home draw against a top team a chance to get 35,000 + in the ground and show Cellino what it would be like every game if we were in the premiership.

Agree but tough ask although not impossible, didn't think I would be saying that . Bark and Pilot strong solid and I real defence we should build on, I believe I'm correct that Beradi can also play left back and Alien at r/b . Would be good to have Dallas and Brid back for this one .

Dallas and Brid won't be fit enough.

I have to say I am really impressed with our progress compared to previous years. Under monk we seem to have found a style of play and direction. I hope monk gets the time he deserves to continue to develop this squad. Having said that there is a few areas that need addressing. Firstly, I think its pretty evident that monk knows his best 11 when fit but it doesn't really leave many if any game changers on the bench. For example against Wigan we needed that second goal to kill the game off. The subs made were bringing on grimes and mowatt which meant we had 4 centre midfielders by trade on the pitch which I thought was bizzare. in january I would like to add a pacey winger. Secondly I'm comfortable that wood will get 20 goals this season but we need someone else to score goals as a striker. We need a proven championship striker to add competition to wood. Having said all this, we are looking more solid and are looking like a team who could readily push on in second half of the season.

I agree. Things are looking good and getting better. However. We have 3 wingers haven't we? We do need another scoring striker. If wood keeps improving I'm a happy man. Prefer him to score 25 this season mind!

For me I think monks preferred attacking three behind wood when fit is Dallas, Hernandez and Sacko. That leaves Roofe who is still settling in 2 divisions higher. Aside from that Monk has tried the likes of mowatt and Phillips and grimes in the no. 10 role. I do think we need a further attacking midfielder to offer support and competition this is what I meant by a pacey winger. Not a number ten but someone who can attack with pace from the wider areas behind wood. I'd also bring in a left back and offer Taylor another contract as if to say right he's a contract but we have also brought someone in so its up to you. You either stay and fight for a place or if you really want to leave then okay we have a replacement. No messing around.

We need a left winger with pace, another striker and another attacking midfielder in January. Neither Phillips or Mowatt can play the Hernandez role. I'd loan Mowatt to a struggling team like Rotherham to get him games. I'd sign Nugent in January, as he can play the loan striker role and is the type who can nick a goal away from home in a 1-0 win. I think Josh Murphy from Norwich would be a good signing too, probably only on a loan though. As for the no 10, I'd look abroad, probably Spain, as they produce these players like candy.

For a very long time it has been pretty hard to pin down what we needed to challenge at the top of the champ, after all the worry about Monk tactically, and the back room nonsense, statistically it is starting to become a pretty clear (and slightly awesome) picture. In the last 10 games we have scored 10, conceded 6. During that time no team has scored more than 1 goal against us, seriously when was the last time we could boast defensive stats like that? If you look at Borough last season (Who also had a solid defense without a big goal return) we are only about 0.3 goals a game off their stats. If we can keep standards up that means a 1 in 3 Winger/Mid could send us up. Unless form dips exponentially over the next couple of weeks that's ridiculously exciting.

Gummie, I agree with what you say. My only concern is that we need a plan 'b'. Teams will start setting up so we just can't get a break up front. We can keep defending and taking a battering at the back but if they set up with 5 at the back then I fail to see how we will get through and score. I am loving what's going on but worry that opposition will set up to take a 0-0 draw and scupper us that way. Need to get them mids scoring to give them more to think about.

Good positive post Gummie. We are a team with stability for the first time in many seasons and the first time ever under MC. I'm not getting carried, or trying not to. All good teams are built from the back up. Stop leaking goals, then tweak the other end of the pitch. 6 goal let in in 10 games shows we have our defence sorted. Albeit with loanees at the moment. Sign them both up, pay them what they want, pretty please MC.

It basically means a lot and very quickly Degsy. I feel like I should be doing a Brian Cox impersonation using a balloon to show how the universe is expanding exponentially now. As for winning the league Lancaster, maybe not, I'm an optimist but that's a bit far. However an average of 1.9 points a game would have got you automatic last season with 1.6 good enough for a playoff slot. We are currently running at 1.6 for the last 10 league games so if we added a few more goals second isn't unattainable.

Ppeacock Answer to that is then go long ball up to Wood bypass midfield draw fouls and hope a set play brings a goal. Going behind in score changes other team strategy. That's why an amazing defence gives options.
