well the way I look at it the coach/manager can only do so much its the players who have to perform on the pitch at the end of the day so no point getting on his back not yet anyway! its all about relationships with the players and creating a bond.
but I agree with what a lot of you say in where is this guys experience? and why has it taken until 2014 before anyone even heard of this guy?
i know no player is bigger than the coach but in this case they are lol!
ex forest green manager wtf!

Who knew the Costa Rica coach?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If you're trying to make the point that we've never heard of Hockaday I don't really see what connection Pinto has. I think it's fair to assume that a club with the fan base and history of LUFC would appoint a manager coach that we'd all heard of.

Pinto has an extensive CV having coached 19 teams including Columbia and Costa Rica (twice). I'd guess he was very well known in Costa Rica before his appointment.

Anyway, this is a dead, pointless debate. Hockaday's been appointed whether or not we like it.

Agree0 Disagree0

No one knew Arsene Wenger before he came and he never played at the top level

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Lucas, this is not an opinion, you're factually incorrect about Wenger. He had been a top coach for years before he came to England. Hockaday has also been coaching for years and has achieved nothing His record with adult players is very poor. You and others can gloss over it all you like with your blind loyalty to the Cellino. He's the cheap option and it's an insult to fans.

I hope I'm wrong and he turns out to be the next Revie, but unlike Wenger, his record suggests otherwise.

I've been attending ER since 1970 and this is the first time I've not renewed my season ticket other than a few years when I couldn't afford it and short period living in France.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

Agree0 Disagree0

Axeman
Did you google wengers history before you posted?
I'd say over 90% of English fans never heard of wenger before he went to gooners ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

No Andy I honestly didn't need to. I was a bit of a nerd back in the day. The point is that Hockaday has been working in THIS country and still no one's heard of him.

I genuinely wish him well and I'm desperate to be proved wrong but I think the appointment is indefensible.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know what your sayin Axeman I feel the same about the appointment but get behind him otherwise it will be impossible for him.
He deserves a chance as does anyone who took the job ;)

Peltier swap for blackstock anyone think that would be good?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Heard Peltier is off to Huddersfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Heard Blackstock is banned for match fixing allegations.

Agree0 Disagree0

The same blackstock that is okay with match fixing

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take cox instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was a minor transgression of betting rules, not match fixing. He's been given a suspended suspension (really) not an actual suspension, 3 months suspended until May 2016.

Evening post have the whole press conference on line. MC talks for ages. I have watched it twice and I find him funny, a little crazy and very astute. His comments on a sleeping giant particularly spot on. He knows the game and is obviously the man in charge at every level. He might well be the best thing to happen to LUFC for a very long time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jun 2014 18:07:52
Just watched the press conference again, with this coach and his very impressive 34% win ratio in over 200 games, he won't be seeing the end of his ridiculous 2 year contract. These two puppets are well out of their league.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jun 2014 22:01:20
McDermott - 37% win ratio
Warnock - 36% win ratio

These were allegedly two managers who had great Championship experience and knew how to get promotion.

Football doesn't always go the way it's supposed to.

Also to comment that Cellino is out of his depth is incredible seeing as he's been in charge of a team who have spent the majority of their time playing in Serie A under his reign and also had some moderate success in Europe.

Yes we have the potential to be a giant again but that doesn't mean we currently are we're in the second tier of English football and haven't been in the top flight for almost a decade.

I think Cellino knows what he's doing somehow.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly JBM, this guy is worse than those two, and also, I was talking about cellinos two puppets not him, you know whackaday and the other guy that said about six words

Agree0 Disagree0

2v year contract for doc holiday? 2 weeks would be too long, struggling to find anything remotely positive in this appointment, pushing 60 failure at non league level, absolutely surreal, a literally a nobody, dunno how he, d the front to send his cv in.

Agree0 Disagree0

We must be the worst set of moaning fans in the league . everyone connected to this club get slatted wether it's coach players, bus driver tea lady floor polisher grass cutter wtf it's MC company he put he's money into our club . none of us probably couldn't and DIDNT,!Do you think he's going to flush £20 million down the bog,! I for one don't! For gods sake stop moaning he's probably saved us from admin and certainly saved us for GFH AND PAPA SMURF GET. A GRIP WERE CALLED SUPPORTERS FOR A REASON SO BLOODY SUPPORT OR PUT you're MONEY WERE MC HAS,! Fed up reading doom and gloom all time I'm sure if wakaday don't do the business he'll be shown door and quicker than he would've done with any BIG COACHES as compo would be peanuts so give all the NEW STAFF PLAYERS AND COACHES your SUPPORT IF that's WHAT YOU CALL YOUSELVES
( and yes I don't agree with hockadays appt, but il give him and all newcomers a chance BECAUSE I SUPPORT OUR CLUB

Nice one wingy, there's way toomany doom and gloom merchants on here, ffs give the bloke a dhance we haven't kicked a ball yet, and the players are professionals sho get well paid to do their best whoevers in charge, cellino is no mug.if he does well great, if not he gets shut, I doubt he can do any worse than the last two we've had, he may suprise us all, give him a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wingy top drawer mate

So called supporters want a big name coach who will want big name players costing god knows how many £££££££££s on wages and compo, then when the clubs running at a loss all these Victor Meldrews on this site will be sat in there armchairs slagging someone else off!
Rant over and if your LEEDS support them FGS

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers Andy, rhino, Spain like you guys, I read every txt everyday (can't wait too see what's happening at our club) SADDO I KNOW LOL I sometimes comment sometimes bite my lip but by god since we've been takin over by MC I've never felt so pissed off with comments that are supposed to be from someone akin to me as being a LOYAL LEEDS FAN am I. Missing something guys,, do we have to expect everyone joining us, to bring this club to its knees . as I'm very positive about MC and what he's going to do with us.I think Thorpe arch possibly being replaced and e/ road being brought back tells us something that MC 's not after a quick buck but going to get this moth eaten, giant of a club, where it should be and keep it there! We can't say that about anyone in last decade to get anywhere near that!and Not yo yo up and down but it may take 2/3 years yet but HEY. let's enjoy the ride ( even you mr bloody meldrews may smile while enjoying the ride) so buckle up lads it starts now!

Hi Ed, I have a dilema and was wondering if you or anyone reading this could help. A friend of mine has a ferrari. He is allowing someone with a provisional licence to drive it. I don't believe this novice has the skill or experience to handle such a complicated and powerful machine. I've talked it through with over people and about 2 out of every 3 agree with me, but the over people say I should relax and my friend obviously knows what he is doing. Should I tell my friend of my concerns or just allow him to do as he wishes. He's not the best at taking over peoples advice. Help.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thinkyour friend, will be sitting very close to the chap with the provissional license during the drive, plus there are other "instructors" there to help the guy out when required.

Ulitimately, he knows how to drive and I think will be taking it slow at first and then get up to speed.

And in my eyes, if you learn to drive in a ferrari, then you will become an expert of that particular motor.

Yes we would all want a chap who was driving a mini before and then a focus then a BMW but hey.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like ya post just remains to be seen wot fuel he's going to put in to drive this beast mot

Agree0 Disagree0

Look at it this way. Up to Warnock joining our record number of defeats in a season was 18. With Warnock and McDermott we have had 19, 19 and 21. Surely Hockaday can't do any worse.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 22:39:27
here here 60yrs- give the guy a chance--can't be much worse

Agree0 Disagree0

7 defeats in 8 games at FGR with the leagues's biggest budget and after 4 years suggests he can do worse 60years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Axeman Brian MCD 5 loss run including 6-0 and 2-0 loss to Rochdale he was on 750k a year a big name and we all loved him.

Give the Hock a chance and let's stop dripping. Get behind him and LUFC its time to stop whining.

Agree0 Disagree0

McDermott won this league though Spain. Hockaday has achieved nothing despite quite a long coaching career. We deserve better.

Never heard of new coach
But has to be as bad or maybe better than many recent trash we've had.
Lets see who we lose and who we get in player wise before we judge
I reckon mc may make a few mistakes along the way to success. But he is smart and won't waste his money so he will learn quickly and we will benefit.

"Cellino said he was looking to move away from the club's Thorp Arch training complex, around eight miles north of the city." (BBC Just now)

So what does this mean for attracting good players, retaining talented youth and attracting the next generation of players when we are already surrounded by Cat 1 and 2 academies (Middlesborough is Cat one and there's plenty of Div one Cat 2's so don't give me luxury we cannot afford nonsense). As a Cat 2 Huddersfield will be able to come and take talented youngsters for minimal compensation if we are not there - I don't even think you can sign players under 12 years old if you are not Cat 2.

I have repeatedly said that he aims to dismantle the youth set-up and it appears that his intention is clearer - you cannot just walk into a new Cat 2 facility. Look at what the Pozzo family did to Watford set-up. Its an Italian thing?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think this is a smokescreen. MC is not willing to pay the price stated in the buy-back agreement and is trying to scare the landlord that he will be stuck with a complex nobody wants. Expect MC to purchase Thorpe Arch at a reduced price within 12 months.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 14:40:24
All good points, however if paying for this means we will always be flirting with administration what can he do. Previous boards have consistently sold our best players to make ends meet, mortgage everything including the kitchen sink etc. we have to comply with FFP so the only way is to cut costs to the bone and hopefully have a bigger budget for today's team. I would love another Batty, Speed, Woodgate to come through, while ever we remain in the Championship, if they do, how will we keep them? If Byram had been fit do you think he would still be at Leeds. I think with the rent on Elland Rd, rent on Thorpe Park, costs most other teams with academy's don't have it's a luxury we cannot afford. The other solution would be to buy both of them and save the rent which would run the academy!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 14:59:17
He's always talked about developing youth. All he is saying is leaving TA and building a new facility closer to ER. This makes sense. Why pay nearly 4 million to buy TA when he can build something closer to ER for a lot less.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thorpe Arch is the only thing at Leeds United which isn't broken. There is so much that needs fixing that it makes no sense at all to close it down, not least since we're tied in to a lease.

Agree0 Disagree0

Axeman
No good reason?
What about money I'm sure that's a good enough reason, also I've said it before and I will say it again MC said he wanted the training ground closer to ER back in March.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't imagine closing it down and moving elsewhere would be financially beneficial though Andy. I don't know the full facts but I'd guess that we're we're tied to a lease at TA, in which case moving might prove costly.

As for money, if Cellino is serious about reaching the premiership then cost cutting is not the way to go. The club needs investment, especially in the playing squad.

The facilities at TA are outstanding and downgrading the players' training & rehabilitation environment, the one jewel in our tarnished crown, doesn't strike me as being a smart move.

Agree0 Disagree0

Axeman
I don't know about the lease, I was lead to believe it ran out a few years ago but the ER lease runs for another few years.
Again on the money front I think he has to meet the fair play rules or get docked points, fined money I'm not sure but the guy seems to know what he's doing and what he wants!
Maybe he will build another TA closer to ER I don't know.

Cellino has said mccormack is going no where. Great news for leeds supporters and MC has said if he needed money he would let him go so it just proves that he does have money he isn't a bs'er

cellino will want someone(hocks)who he can mould into what he wants - he could not do that with bmd or anyone else of that same mould(manager mould).
hocks has experience - he's hungry for the game and me for one, is willing to give him a chance - in cellino we tust!
mot

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He will have to hurry up with his moulding techniques as this guy is knocking up 60!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah that's how all the great Coaches and Managers succeeded. They were moulded by the Club Owner. I can remember Don but I can't remember the Owner that moulded him! What nonsense Daz!

20 Jun 2014 09:51:54
Well, we have got Hockaday as coach. The only thing to do now is to get 100% behind him and give him the full support of the best fans in the world.

Until proven otherwise we must let him show us what it is that MC obviously sees in him, if that works out to be right for ua and we play good football and progress the fantastic.

If it doesn't and we start to have doubts creeping in then that is the time for questioning decisions and criticism.

Until then let's sit back and watch him work, by the way who wouldn't do a better job if they had less to concentrate on - if all he has got is the players he has nowhere to hide if it all goes wrong but I for one hope he and us are successful next season.

Now for the transfer market - let's hope that excites us more.

Gutted and angry with this new coach. We're a laughing stock as he'sclearly a good talker but CV says not a good coach. That interview yesterday he came across as pathetic. We can all work hard, give it everything, what else would he say. Our players will be disillusioned & uninspired as I am. If as a player you have no faith in your coach you won't give your all, a bit like McD to be fair. This bloke can't believe his good luck & I can't believe MC was so easily mugged off. Pathetic appointment

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jun 2014 12:34:02
Pity our players didn't have the work hard give all attitude last season! Maybe this new guy can change that? Think I agree with most when I say he wouldn't have been my choice but now he's here let's get behind him!

Agree0 Disagree0

Slough, it pains me to write it but I agree with every word, cellino thinks he has a good cheap coach but whackaday and his mate will be out long before the season ends with compo in their pockets. The revolving door has started spinning

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree Slough. I'm absolutely disgusted with this appointment. Good song though if we get promoted -whackadoo whackadoo Hockaday!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 06:17:23
We need Salerno because whoever is advising MC hasn't got a clue. This Hock is a chancer & MC a sucker. His CV is awful & clearly 2nd choice imo. MC wanted Dolan but too tight to pay for quality so were lumbered with this useless chancer. Can see our better players & some academy lads leaving as all players want to be coached by the best. I know we can't afford that but this Hock is the least inspiring man I've come across in years. He talks a good job but refuses to be drawn on his FGR sacking. Our players will be looking for the Exit starting with Ross. MC is now undoing all the good he's done & overa hundred ssn tickets not renewed yesterday, how many more

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Slough
Take a chill pill mate he's not my choice either but give the guy a chance, fergie was 1 match away from the sack and well need I say more?
As for players leaving, they have to honour a contract mate so there going nowhere unless MC says so ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

MC is definitely not a sucker, he's an astute operator, he clearly cares more about making Leeds a success than previous owners, he's not bought Leeds to make a quick buck. He talks a lot of common sense.

Hockaday wouldn't be my first choice - but in reality MC will buy and select the players (and he has a good track record in buying players) if Hockaday doesn't deliver then MC will sack him with low compensation costs. MC isn't patient, if Hockaday doesn't keep Leeds in top 6 contention he will be gone.

It's obvious that behind closed doors MC didn't rate BMc.

This Andre Blackman, we are 'supposed', to be interested in has a bit of a chequred past too say the least! Released by Arsenal, he then had brief spells at the following(either released or contract not renewed) Spurs, Chelsea, Pompey, Celtic a couple of non-league teams and i'm sure i've missed a least 1 other. He's only 23!!
