Really happy with this transfer window! Hope we all give them time to gel, who would have thought we would have signed 15 players? Best window for a long while. Credit to Cellino for taking on all the mess that came with us and starting to move us in the right direction again, although I hope he buys the stadium, I think if we beat Birmingham we might just go on a role.
Oh and loan window opens in a week, few outs and a cheeky 1 in?

Lads am I bring too optimistic?

People need to get over losing Smith, the guy is useless exept for headers and even then he isn't that great. Yes against the worse teams a player like him can excel and score goals however against a good defence, he is easy to play against. No pace, no technical ability and pretty much useless unless it's on his head. Just another Zigic, Parkin and Becchio. He did nothing against league 1 Bradford apart from his goal and these days just scoring goals isn't enough!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed013's Note - Unfortunately goals win you games mate, without them it will be a dark place. Lets hope someone steps up and gets the 40 goals that the 2 at now at Fulham got last season}

01 Sep 2014 23:47:36
I'm over it, onwards and upwards, I don't think we will struggle for goals once we gel as a unit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with you Ed. And we keep Hunt!
Can someone find out why he's gone after signing new deal a few days ago? And how much for? MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed013's Note - The said amount is 500k which is bizarre after only just signing a 3 year deal}

01 Sep 2014 23:21:46
500k is a joke for smith, I know it's 500k more than what we paid for but still, more gutted to see him go then I was with McCormack

Really pee'd off about Matt Smith being sold. O K we have more strikers than we need, but dunno how much they are committed to LUFC as he was. Big mistake IMO. Hope I'm wrong and wish him very well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lets be honest he was a donkey.

All last season everyone going on about hoof ball and how bad it is now we have sold Smith all I hear about is how he gives another option. What, would that be the hoof ball you all said was that bad?

Now he has gone no more of that even as an option. Happy he has gone tbh. Deal also reported at 750k with a huge sell on option. I am happy with it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Spain 3 goals in 5 league games, one of those a cross, one an OG we're flying

Agree0 Disagree0

LUFC Spain

Donkey maybe a bit harsh on the lad but otherwise you are spot on - I bet many of those bemoaning his departure were last year bemoaning the style of play and Smith in with that - good luck to him and long may hoofball at ER be dead.

PS - maybe we could have got more but he cost £0.00

the coach I know at palace said leeds were very poor and have made some 'strange offers' with youth team ect. he said it is widely thought MC bit off more than he could chew and didn't realise how much money we owed and buying leeds nearly skinted him. he said he liked mc and thought he would do well, but we were hard up. he said best thing mc did was not make it too well known giving him more power in getting good fee ross. I didn't believe him but why sell smith for half a mill, he is worth more than that (a lot more) and to sell him to ross'es team knowing they play well. we have just given fulham the paring that made ross fly and kept us up last year. unless we are skint that makes little sense. still think MC is great though and trust him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 23:14:52
I know he didn't realise how much money we were leaking but I do not believe he is skint

01 Sep 2014 23:23:02
Cellino is worth something in the region of £750 million so despite our ridiculous debts I find it incredibly doubtful that buying Leeds nearly bankrupt him he's just a very astute business man by the looks of things.

My personal opinion on selling Smith is because Cellino wants us to (TRY - may not happen but hopefully) and play attractive football and with a player like Smith in the squad is far too easy to resort to hoofball.

I'm delighted Smith is gone always felt he was a very poor player and if not for his height would struggle at League 1 or 2 level.

Also can't believe Poleon gone permanently sad to see a youth team player leave us but I always felt he was awful and that's my polite opinion on him.

Best transfer window in years am feeling incredibly confident of a great season ahead now just get us a coach who can make us click and you never know could be a trip to Wembley with a bit of luck.

Agree0 Disagree0

If that's true then its scary! please not again.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2014 00:24:37
Mad stuff Bermondsey and not 1 bit believable. With Doukara Antenucci Sharp AJose ahead of him and no Capital 1 cup left to play in Smith was surplus just like Poleon. We have brought in 14 players something had to give, watch now as contracts are cancelled by Mutual consent and players who we couldn't sell for a fee start joining smaller cubs. Massimo Cellino is nobody's fool where money is concerned and for once in a very long time things are starting to look up.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2014 22:59:03
I have got it sussed! We will play 10 strikers and the opposition will be that busy picking the ball out of their net that we won't need a defence😤

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 23:16:43
Ok maybe not ten strikers as Poleon and Smith are gone and Hunt doesn't count!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed013's Note - Isn't Hunt a goalkeeper}

He could be! Sure ain't a winger and definitely not a striker - not on my planet 😋

Danny Graham on loan anyone?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 21:55:16
Doukoura has been given a three yr deal he is now permenent does that mean that Cellino still wants to add another "loan to buy player perhaps" i'm thinking its a very odd time to be changing the Doukara deal unless he's freeing up the loan space

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 21:54:58
Doukara loan converted to permanent stay, which would allow us another loan player? Who's that going to be then?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 21:53:06
On news now that Doukoras loan deal has been made permanent. Wonder why such a rush. Only answer is that it's to make room for another loan signing as you can only have 5 in the 18 man squad. This permanent deal takes us back down to 4 loan players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 22:02:07
Interesting move, must be a reason another loan in would be the most obvious. Might not be until loan window though.

Sorry, I may have missed something as the ships internet is as slow as. one of our defenders, but I see the talk about Grayson and Garcia. Is Clarke no longer in the equation? All the talk about him has died off but I can't find why.
BTW, I told my colleague that Manchester United were looking at signing a Serbian CB. Panic!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed013's Note - Clarke is the favourite with most bookies}

Thanks Ed

overall I am more than happy with the business done in this window, but iwouldnt mind 6 or 7 of the deadwood players going! Awhole new era awaits and its getting exciting! I LOVE IT!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 17:50:13
As I live in Sussex have seen quite a view Brighton games. Without doubt a very attractive footballing side, but that was wholly down to three years of work by Gus Poyet. Garcia definitely had some tactical nous but did not impress the Brighton fans with his negative tactics, only played one forward up and look to nick games, not many Brighton fans were sorry to see him leave as a result. Very strong track record with Macabi Tel Aviv but be prepared for negative tactics if he comes.

Headline 18/8/14 - ''Leeds United striker Matt Smith has spoken of his delight in signing a new deal that keeps him at the club for a further three years'' - might not be kept a the club 3 weeks never mind 3 years!

Just been reported on radio Leeds that Matt smith is in talks with Fulham about a move to join up with ross mc.

What's your thoughts in it?

Lifelongleedsfan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would be stupid to lose Smith now - we need his height. We don't need the money…. plus he's just signed a new contract? Why have Fulham suddenly replaced Norwich in regarding us as a 'feeder' club? They can Foxtrot Oscar.

Agree0 Disagree0

Realistically, how many games is he going to start, with all the new boys there it won't be many. We will miss his height but by all accounts that is all we will miss. Time to cash in

Agree0 Disagree0

A good coach would get a lot more out of Smithy. He needs to slim down and run off the ball more. he's not scored that many because of dire service from the midfield….but look what happened against Bradford….and yes, he really should have scored with that header in injury time. Over the course of a long hard season I reckon he'd get quite a few games - plus he's got a good attitude….not to be underestimated…and he hasn't asked to move, that I'm aware of.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't really want to loose him, yes he is 25 but he has only been in the professional game a short time but I really think he would have had an impact this year.

This is the main problem with the Leeds / MC set up, where the "coach" has no control over transfer going ons.

Agree0 Disagree0

Take 3 mill and make them take 5 or 6 others as well as freebies
Won't be sorry if he stays, but I'm hoping our new style of play won't leave us having to play hoof ball

Agree0 Disagree0

I think smiths presence makes us play the long ball. he's no good with his feet, extremely slow off the mark and not great at hold up play although I do rate him as a last ditch impact player but without any wingers he is quite pointless

Agree0 Disagree0

Markten
So if we need his height i'm assuming we will have to pump the ball up to him!
Wouldnt it be better to play footbal on the floor?
Most of the GOOD footballing teams these days keep the ball close to the grass.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2014 17:37:46
I think Smith gives us options and sometimes height from a floated corner or cross is invaluable - it does not have to be hoof ball! A decent coach and a bit of time is what is needed - I want him to stay.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lump the ball up to him? i'd say with some width and decent crosses he can be a very effective player. Last year he done amazingly well and although I wouldn't have him as a regular starter he can prove his worth over the season of 46 league games.
Lee Chapman was not a great player and most of his goals were with his head but he was some player and scorer for us. And I don't remember the ball being lumped in to the box often, just great crosses from Dorigo and Speed one side and Sterland and Strachan the other! Smith might not be another Chapman but can do a job for us.
However, if Fulham offer big cash again, that's another story.

Agree0 Disagree0

Andy - don't think I ever mentioned hoof ball…if we get more width Smithy should trouble defences from conventional crosses and free kicks. I'm a big fan of the ball being kept on the floor, but also a fan of big centre forwards with good heading ability who can intimidate defences. We don't want a forward line full of diddymen.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2014 13:43:09
What is the chance of Austin being moved on in this window?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

God I hope so. Granted he's a trier but a total liability. Always makes the wrong pass, putting team mates into trouble or over hitting long balls. Probably the worst CM I've seen in a white shirt. And I include Okon and Aizlewood in that!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2014 17:53:02
who would want him. terrible player.

01 Sep 2014 13:23:37
We have a lot of strikers within the squad, just need a bit of pace to provide them a decent service.
Could also do with the squad trimming, goodbye to Hunt and Morrison.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 13:02:35
Just posted on ssn the we missed out on jasmine kurtic of Slovenia. He went to Fiorentina. I wonder what Grayson or McDermott even poor Neil could have done with ability to make deals we have done throughout this window

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think all three of them would of got us promoted under the current regime

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes that is a good point, Grayson + Warnock would have got us over the line with the squad we now have, not sure about nice guy Brian.

Anyway it will take the team a few weeks/months to gel and in the meantime we should get some good wins and also some poor performances I'm sure but if we are still in the top 10 -12 by xmas then with the right coach manager in maybe, just maybe we would have an outside chance of top 6.

I don't mind as long as you can see a team building, if it does take longer, but I have not seen us invest in so many players since our PL days so it has got to be a good thing for us in the long run you would think.

The 2 week break will help us as well re gelling you would hope.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree DG, you sound like the voice of reason. Well put!

Agree0 Disagree0

Players we should move on. Wooton, Austin, Norris, Thompson, White, Morison, Poleon and Hunt. I would keep Smith unless Fulham go silly again with the cash and it might be a good idea to send Dawson out on loan so he can gain some 1st team experience. Tonge should stay for he has valuable experience and younger players can learn from him and he still has a role to play, as its a long season.
Players in. ? definitely a CB, wide player and maybe even a LB. Warnock has been superb this season but again its a long season ahead and i'm not sure young Charlie Taylor is ready, although I hope he is.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Taylor looks good when he has come in so hope we don't get a left back, we got a couple of Cb's I think so should be covered there. just a bit of pace and we should be laughing

Agree0 Disagree0

Still need another CB Bermondsey. Bellusci, Pearce and Cooper not enough if, as I hope, Wooton goes. Never seen him play but been told Killock not championship standard. Yet, anyway. We really need pace and more pace going forward too! MOT.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh sorry I thought I read on here we signed another two cb's (was on vodka at the time so my mistake) agree with ones you listed there need at least another one

Simon Grayson ruled himself out of the running for the managers job according to ssn, and Garcia is in talks with Watford. Who do ya reckon MC will bring in?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have been told by people I trust and are in the know it now looks like watford boss coming to leeds (they text that through last night) still that said I think most people with half a brain could guess watford boss

Agree0 Disagree0

Looks like Garcia. Would be a decent choice as I don't think there is an endless list to choose from because of the way MC works.

01 Sep 2014 12:29:24
Grayson ruled himself out of running for the managers job here, confirmed on ssn. Would of loved him back, who do ya reckon MC will bring in?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

GARCIA!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2014 11:32:53
I think for me, pearce, tongue, austin, poleon and hunt should be axed but that doesn't look likely in this window. Pearce has been a a weak link for me and I honestly feel he gets caught out in this league for pace and strength

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe I have only seen pearce on good days but I think he is decent defender at this level, left foot is a problem with cooper but I like him and think there are lot worse (wooten) in this league

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2014 11:21:06
I think we should keep smith. I think he shows good attitude when he plays and is a good option. I feel we should of took big money for byram, I'd like a couple of wide players as an option to balance the squad, unless we could use byram and aidy white as wide midfield options

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 11:13:50
Would not be keen on the ex Watford coach as he is another 'manager' who lost the dressing room largely because of his style. We have had enough upheaval without without bringing in more potential difficult. Whilst I am not happy with the prospect of Grayson coming (lost the dressing room and couldn't put a defence together- and it wasn't just Bates fault!) I would prefer him. If Clarke has gone off the radar that's a pity.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 11:09:01
Now its GRAYSON or GARCIA. We'll know within 24 hours

Beppe Sonnini former Watford Manager would be a great shout for our new manager. Wealth of experience in Italy and done well in his short time at Watford. Could get the best out our Italian players. What do you think ed.

{Ed013's Note - Worth a go, but wouldn't be my first choice}

According to reports Massimo is off to the States for a few days after the transfer window shuts. He is said to want to appoint the coach before he goes.

Could be a very interesting day today, lot of old players out (come on Colin you know you want them) a couple more in and a new Head Coach.

Think our season is about to burst into life.

MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2014 09:26:18
Well, (and of course today could still bring some late surprises - Will Pearce, Smith or Sam go in last minute deals? ) I'm more than happy with the transfers in - who would have expected so many? OK we've still to see how most of them perform and gel together, and we lost out on a couple who I would have liked to see here (Sorensen in particular), BUT MC is shaping up well in my opinion - realising when he's made a mistake, ADMITTING IT, and correcting it quickly.
I think if Sannino or Grayson are appointed in next 48 hours, we can be upbeat about the prospects of some real progress this season, especially in our style of play.Think we will have an exciting young team to watch, who will want to kiss the badge with pride (that will make a nice change). Exciting times!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Whats everyones verdict on Matt Smith after the recent rumour he's joining Mcbadgekisser for £1.5 mill?

Dont want to influence anyone but eres my 2 penneth.

Hes 25 and if he was going to be any good we should be seeing it by now. His control is ok, his running off the ball is non-existant and his eye for goal is so so. Took his goal against Bradford really well the header in injury time was unbelievable (keep it down its a goal) I think if it wasnt for his height he would be div1/2 al day long. IMO all he's in the team for is long ball up and knock on for someone to play off him.

We ALL have our own opinion so just say how you feel ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For me nobody is sacred if the money is right sell them on.

As for Smithy I would expect him being better than he is atm at his age.

he will score goals but from set pieces and the long ball option. He does give us another attacking option but then again so do most of the forwards we have.

Dont think MC will even look at selling for 1.5 but closer to 5 and for me he is a gonner

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Andy :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Probably summed him up quite well there Andy but the fact he can score his share would make him an asset IMO. No-one likes hoof ball but if you're chasing a game with minutes to go, needs must and Smith would be the man to get on to a long hopeful ball into the box. I think we should keep him.

MM

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I feel Smith has the potential to improve, a player like him usually gets to their best 28/29 because he's not a Pacey striker. I also think he has a great attitude and is a real professional and personally I think he has a big part to play, I wouldn't want to see anyone leave apart from Hunt, Morison, maybe poleon. Norris and tonge can provide experience when we need it and austin I reckon would be good coming off the bench so I think we should keep them but not as starters, I was impressed by norris against Bradford

Agree0 Disagree0

I like smith, his goal record per game/mintues is as good as anyone. also smith and mccormack work well so is selling both of them a bit silly? I think last year they both kept us up, wouldn't be a shame if this year they both kept fulham up or worse promoted? sell for the right price but personally I would build a team around him (he is a handful that has scored against prem teams) be direct, be hoofball, be just like the wilknison team with chapman, its not baraca but is effective

Agree0 Disagree0

B
Chapman IMO was twice the player Smith is. He made runs off the ball, which take defenders outof the game and had a lot better eye for goal. I don't think Smith will frighten many TOP defenders in the championship and definately not in the premiership.
May be i'm to Smith what you were to the Hock lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough adny we are all allowed our hate player. I agree is not half the player champan was but could be useful his record against prem teams is not bad (all be it in cup games) don't love smith but think could be useful
