Speaking as businessman (and not as a fan fer minute). I'd have not splashed a lot of cash yesterday given where we are in the table.

No guarantee of ROI in this financial year / season.

Better to lay platform (of players and infrastructure) for Premier League auto promo in following year and do a bunch of key marquee signings over the summer when they've more chance to have an impact and push on the development squad/U21s fer cost effective emerging talent.

But choff it. I am a fan. so am gagging to get up this year so still a tad disappointed.

(It's bloody difficult this schizophrenia of being a Leeds fan. )

B******* get enough (and just enough) to go up. That is the plan Warnock is one player short of that the moment (imo) and the price is right. Add to that the fact that we re one of the few football teams in a decent financial position and you have financial gold. Just prise papa smurf's grip off ta and er and we could go places.

After a nail biting day with the transfer deadline. I must admit at first I was a lil sceptical with the swap deal between becchio and morison but after a day away from it I am slowly coming around to the good business done by the club yesterday. Oh, and well done Neil warnock for the honest and informative explanation on the o/s yesterday. can we have more of these explanations please as it keeps fans well informed.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

Exactly, and that's how any decent football club should be ran, make a bit of profit but be clear with the fans: during evil Bates reign it was like:
Top Player sold, profit gained, in your face!
Player signed, undisclosed fee (meaning profit retained), in your face!

LUFC and GFH listen up make profit from markeitng, mercahndise, and a percentage of TV money. Not by selling our best players and sweeping the profits under the carpet!

NickLS26

Agree5 Disagree2

Still not a Warnock fan but I'm impressed with the article on the O/S. Definitely a big improvement in communications and to be fair I even think he's done decent business in the window. Remains to be seen whether Becchio will be a loss but there's not much you can do once a player asks to leave so he can't be blamed for that.

whats the value of morison!?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Morison bought by Norwich for 2.8million, and valued as such. We value Becchio as 3million, this leaves them owing us. . ?

I have no doubts in Morison. Far better player than Becchio, he may score a few less himself, but will create more space and goals for other players. His physics outstanding - will not need weeks to recover or adapt, will be hungry as a starving wolf for goals and success from day one! I think we`ll see a new team and new style/stucture after swap deal, as we will no longer have to adapt our play to Becchios strengths (read: limitations!) Will probaly be most notable in away games, where Morisons abilities will steal us draws and wins in games we would otherwise lose! WELL DONE, NW!

Also rate Habidou one of the most exiting players to arrive ER in years! No question about talent, only question is if he`ll be given chance to adapt and blossom (his defencive work rate probably not what saves gaffers sleep at night?) My overall feeling is the tall african will be a the new cult hero at ER. Also WELL DONE, NW!

Steven Warnock rock solide. Will solve left side problem, and enable gaffer to get other players back in position. Attitude and experience will tighten up whole defence (stop our "hole defence"?!) Once again, WELL DONE, NW!

And keeping Barkley rest of season was indeed important! WELL DONE!

Failing to secure Burke of course a drop-back. But we can`t win em all, some deals just don`t happen. Conclusion still: a successful window and a massive improvement. Remember last year this time, we`ve only managed to get Delph on a short term loan.

Looking at the teams above us and their squad and transfer activities, I can`t think otherwise: If two of the above four signings are successful, we`re now favourites for one of the play-off places, we will probably qualify as nr. 5 or 6.

If three of these signings prove gold and we`re able to bring in a winger in loan window, we could go even higher, but automatic promotion probably well out of reach.

LUCKILY, I say! I travelled from Norway to Wembley match when beaten by Doncaster, and I`ve always carried feeling of beeing destined to come back to Wembley to fullfill a mission that was crashed then.

Come on you moaners. we`ve had the best transfer window since David O`Leary`s days (and back then there was no window!), and still you go on complaining! We`ve built a more than competent squad, and are in the middle of an exciting season with everything to win and nothing to loose! I`m actually having a thrilling time here, and enjoy it just as much as I did in the Revie days. Back then even second place was failure, now we`re constantly in the beautiful mix of feelings - the "ups and downs" that this wonderful club (and its chant) is all about.

We`re heading forward! We`re marching on! The darkest time is over! If we don`t make it this season, we will strenghten in summer and try again! I will never ever let frustrations hit my club and players through these fansites, and definitly not "demonstrate" or make my point by boycotting games! I will follow every game at television, net and radio - and save my pounds (norwegian crowns) to afford the plane tickets and hotel bills necessary to go to ER as often as possible.

You yorkshire folks SO LUCKY having possibility to follow your team and dream live every week!

Never forget that!

Stop complaining, support your team!

I am not one to whinge or moan so I'm not going to start now. I think we have done some good business during the transfer window but would like to point out. Yet again we have spent nothing in the transfer window. Barkley(loan) Warnock(free after termination of contract with villa) Morison(part of deal for becchio) Habibou(loan with a view to permanent). The players moving out will had made room on the wage budget for these as well. So we're really still waiting for that marquee signing and still have no clue of the financial clout GFH are capable of. Just thought I'd point this out

Agree4 Disagree2

Agree 100%.
The players brought in have been good players.
The players released, deadwood.
GFH not spending was the disappointing thing.
I mean we're told that Chris Burke was too expensive. Just how expensive was he considering we hadn't spent a penny.
The squad's good now but would have been much stronger with the extra ambition of signing somebody like Burke.
Would have also been a show of intent to teams around us and the stay away fans.
Still tbh I reckon we can field a pretty solid looking team now. The Cardiff game could be very interesting indeed.

On the face of it Chris Burke didn't look expensive, but you must understand that us and Forrest offered the same money for a player out of contract in 5 months and they wanted too much. Also they have just sold their keeper to Stoke and got in 3.5 mill so could afford to turn us down.
Anyway the money we have saved can go towards the wages of a Prem loanee next week.

first of all I think this is the best transfer window we had in a long time. signed some good players as well as tying down some younger players but bechios wages would surely cover at least one of those signings wages plus the supposed fee we got must cover one if not both of the other two at least for a while. my point is we are still no wiser as to the financial muscle of gfh is this a good or bad thing, tell me what you guys think.

Believable17 Unbelievable12

I think its good, we would be disappointed if we payed 3 million for a player thinking we are rich, and then in the summer spending that in total.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not such a bad a days work but fans must be disappointed that no big (and when I say big I mean by Championship standards) signings have been made. Think we all got carried away believing that when GFH took over we would have a war chest to spend on players in this transfer window. Obviously this has not been the case and again we have been left to pick up what we can from the unwanted section. We don't seem to be much better off than we were in the Bates era. We have a fighting chance of promotion through the play-offs but what worries me is that if we were to go up into the premiership the players we have at present could well be in a relegation scrap from day one unless money is put into the club and some decent signings are made. If so and with the fanbase we have behind us home and away we could hopefully compete and find ourselves in the top flight for years to come.

Agree3 Disagree1

We've upped our wage cap from 15k pw to 20k pw so as a result more pulling power. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but hopefully Warnock has been given the go ahead to get who he wanted and he has had the final yay or nay unless its a ridiculous sum of money a la qpr. If they have then they are doing a good job IMO

Agree3 Disagree4

01 Feb 2013 09:15:37
As I previously posted Habibou did leave Zulte Waregem during the transfer window and as expected it was to us, albeit on loan but he still came. Also, Warnock is a solid addition to our defence, probably still good enough for a premier league team, him down one wing, byram down the other is a potent combination of wingbacks. Lastly Morison for Becchio, at first it would seemingly not be great business due to Morisons current fitness levels and lack of match time, however in the long term (next season and onwards) he will no doubt prove his worth and I feel offer more as a whole than Becchio did (Will always love Becchio for his contribution over the seasons) and therefore is probably an astute bit of business. My only complaint although I am happy with what we got in is that we didn't manage to get a creative midfielder/winger in, personally I feel we should have gone in for Chris Burke, some will agree others will have their own ideas, one thing is for sure about Burke and that is that he is a proven Championship player with quality.

I understand why GFH probably didn't want to give Warnock/Harvey a licence to throw money around, after all the likelyhood is Warnock won't be here come next season. I feel next season will be our time, however I wouldn't turn it down if it did somehow manage to come round this season and promotion was gained. MOT SussexLeeds

Morrison is not fully fit so will take him a while, Warnock is garbage was ok 2yrs ago people deteriorate and get slower and he is slow, would have been better sticking with white and his pace what has been wrong with defence over last 4 games not much, so sat he will shuffle a settled defence again, and habibou is unknown might work might not, so how do people think we are going to make play offs have we really improved the team no we haven't, morison not as good as becchio Warnock we didn't need and habibou maybe but not guaranteed.

Believable9 Unbelievable24

We won't make the play offs, if we had decided to gamble on making them we would have had to spend crazy money yesterday at hyperinflated prices, which still wouldn't have guaranteed promotion. I'm going to take a pragmatic view, the new owners have tied our excellent young players up of long term deals. We have a good core group of players, Byram, Lees, Kenny, Pearce, Warnock, Austin, Diouf, McCormack, Morison. If in the summer we can add two quality wingers an extra creative midfield player and an extra centre half I think we will be in good shape. The seeds of this season were sown back in the summer due to the protracted takeover. I think (hope) a fresh manager coming in, with a good championship core group of players, and a proper summer transfer building program could lead us back to the promised land. Some fans are really starting to get on my t*ts now!

How can people say that the new owners have not spent any money. these players need paying don't they. Just because we haven't gone out and spent £3m here and £4m there that doesn't mean they have shown no intent and ambition.

Look at the facts.

Warnock has said he is leaving in the summer. why give him massive amounts of cash to spend for the the boss to come in and not like the squad he has and have to try and sell them all on to bring his own players in?

Look at what hassel we have had trying to get rid of Grayson's bunch. Nunez, Rogers, Rachubka, Pugh, Kisnorbo the list could go on. we have had to either pay them up or loan them off to run their contracts down.

From a buisness point of view it is best to wait and see what happens in the summer and then make a real move in the market.

They have done fantastic in my eyes so far.

They cut the price on tickets,

They got Byram, Lees, Poleon and Diuff signed up on longer deals.

They have paid a lot of money to clear out the rubbish squad players we had

They have brought in some good players:
Warnock - 3yrs ago was at the world cup
Morison - Excellent Championship player
Habibou - Could turn out to be the next Gradel
Tonge - Proved his worth already
Diouff - Argueably our best player this season
Hall - Not been given the chance but looks good
Austin - Beast of a midfielder

lets give it while summer transfer window closes and THEN start to judge

Come on Leeds, lets show Cardiff why Tottenham struggled.

Believable20 Unbelievable8

GFH publicly confirmed there would be transfer funds available for Warnock to strengthen the team in January.

The way I see it we have moved some deadwood out which will cover the wages of Warnock and Habibou and we have replaced Bechio with Morison and small amount of cash coming our way - so despite there promises it appears we have made a profit from this transfer deadline. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Dont get me wrong - I didn't expect us to spend millions however a cash purchase for a winger would have been good.

we have a good squad now but maybe lack in pace still but can be temporary fixed with loans til end of season.

Agree4 Disagree3

Yes GFH said Warnock would have transfer funds however look at the wages Morison and Warnock are now on, not sure what Habib will be on but two players coming down from the premier league would not want to drop their wages too much, it wouldn't surprise me if Warnock is now our top earner, this alone would take a chunk out of the transfer budget as this money has to come from somewhere and it certainly isn't ticket sales right now. Look at it this way also read the OS, Warnock did make a cash offer for Burke and Birmingham inflated their price to the point Burke was overvalued and not just in Leeds's opinion either, he also talked to Jerome Thomas who went to Blackburn on mega bucks something that we all know we do not pay, so why would GFH or Warnock spend money on an over valued player, would you go out and buy a car and pay £ 10k over the asking price. . no I would guess not.

Im quite happy with the signings we made but I still feel like bates is still someone that owns part of Leeds united.
1. Apparently we offered becchio 20 k pw. i'm thinking maybe we didn't and just looked to sell him on.
2. We didn't spend any of our money again . Warnock free transfer, Morison came in and we got 200k which is enough to pay for the loan of habibou.
3. decided 500k for a player was 2 much

Once again no ambition is really shown.

If becchio hadn't of been sold we would only of got Warnock

Made a great offer on bechhio wage, over all this

Wouldn't it be nice if the owners gave us fans an idea of how they see the next three years, aube investment ambition and managerial plans. Surely they have a game plan and shouldn't we be entitled to some communication. Dosent have to be top secret stuff. Just common decency wod be an improvement

My take on the window. We did well. We didn't do what we set out to do but we did well nevertheless. All dead wood virtually gone one way or another, Morison when fit will be a handful in this league. Apparently, defenders don't like playing against him. Can see why. We will retain the ball more with him and end up with more free-kicks. I suspect will take him a few weeks to get fit. Haribo looks like he got a bit of trickery and pace and no-one will know how to deal with him and that includes us at first. Could be what we need. He may have a Somma effect when Davide was on fire like a year ago. Warnock has to be better than Pugh and Drury and probably White but White has really applied himself last couple of weeks so at least there's healthy competition at LB now. So we've definitely improved but if I am honest I think we will just miss out by a whisker on 6th place because I think we lack that extra bit of quality in midfield. unless we manage to retain Barkley and he hits top form but I got this feeling Everton will want him back next month. 6th place is in our reach but it will be exceptionally close. There is something else I think we should be doing though. Playing Ashdown regularly in nets. Kenny has lost form and Ashdown beginning to come good. Wouldn't mind seeing Dawson get a few minutes as sub either. I believe we will do our major spending in the summer but who will be our manager? Got to be Adkins. He taylor made for us. We could be back in the big time soon. People hold on and MOT!

Well now we have to see what morison and habibou are made of! I personally think they will be great. Morison is already proved at this level and habibou is powerful and can score goals. Hoofball may even work now, as much as it is rubbish! With dioufy behind in support and two strikers alternating every so often, I think we could potentially have one of the deadliest attacking forces in the championship. Potentially. And plus, the problem at left back is solved with warnock who would obviously be above standard in the championship. It also means that lees, pearce and peltier can alternate in the centre, with peltier also filling in for byram (i think he needs a break, he's worked so hard!). Overall, great transfer window, bring on cardiff! MOT

Why spend money on a player when you can get similar for free. Productive transfer window but we did need a winger.

I for one am very happy with how this transfer window has turned out, it all looked doom and gloom but we've got some good players in and got rid of most of the deadwood in the squad.

Players we've signed:

Ryan Hall: Young pacey winger who can make a real impact from the bench or from the start if given a good run in the side, showed some real promise at Huddersfield away.

Ross Barkley (Loan): Barkley is a very good young prospect with a lot of talent, only on loan until February 12th but hopefully we can keep him until the end of the season as showed some real class in his first few games for the club.

Michael Tonge: Tonge brings a lot of experience to the team, he has a few goals from midfield and works hard to grind out results for the team, good man to have around the place.

Habib Habibou: Don't really know much about him, but from what I do know is he's a big strong physical player who brings a good work rate and that bit of pace we've been lacking, also chips in with a few goals but seems to assist more than score, will give a different attacking option look forward to see him.

Stephen Warnock: Very good professional, has a lot of experience in English football and has played hundreds of games in the Premiership. Very good signing for Championship level and he has shown he wants to wear the shirt hense turning down Premier league offers. He finally fills the dreaded LB position.

Steve Morison: Absolutley amazed by this season, I mentioned him before the window and expressed how I would love to see him at the club. Very good striker at this level, can score a lot of goals and brings a lot to the team! Very chuffed and can't wait for the goals to fly in.

Only downside of this window was the loss of Becchio, more the fact of his goals not his skill and talent as he wasn't the best footballer at the club.

All in all very happy with Warnock and GFH for bringing in some new faces, bring on the final stage of the season, come on Leeds still plenty of points to be won, lets get in those play offs!

Can't understand the negativity around deadline day today. Who were we expecting to sign? I'm willing to bet that most of the players supposedly linked to us were not part of NW's plans. Trouble is, some people are gullible enough to believe the rumours. I think GFH are on the right lines, they've tried to clear out the deadwood like the fans wanted, imo Morison is an improvement on Becchio, Warnock will help shore up the defence and allow Peltier to play in his correct position and Habibou is an exciting unknown quantity.

To do this business and not spend on transfer fees is great, more in the pot for the new manager in the summer. I am still optimistic we can make play-offs which is the best we can hope for. If we had spent big money now and not got promotion, there would be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. We are never satisfied.! MOT Ron.

So you think warnock is going do you. No chance. He will stay.
And you think there is money available in the summer too?
Interesting!

Totally agree. Good signings which were all necessary and were done with good business sense. They will blend in with the rest of the team. Need to focus on the football now

I am sick and tired of hearing our fans moaning. Honestly this has been a productive transfer window with the signings today we also got tonge and Barkley. There was never going to be a big name signing with the wage structure we have. I seriously think we have a great team to get promoted this season and let our icing on the cake signing be our fans the 12th man. The crowd last Sunday was amazing and let's keep it up.

Totally agree with above. Very shrewd business. Cleared out all the deadwood, and replaced with much better. Now lets get a result Saturday. Results went our way this week, and its time for the charge.

So did we actually spend any money?
Did we get a creative midfielder?
Did we get a winger?
I hope rosco still gets his start as a striker, got a feeli g he is going to be pushed aside again.
Nothi g wrong with Morrison and warnock but did we needed habibou?
Still reckon a good e d to the season is on the cards simply because fresh faces.
Still didn't spend any money though! Why is that? With the Morrison money we could have got Burke or Boyd or somebody! Strange!

Believable4 Unbelievable19

Yes we needed a left winger so now we can have two proper wingers in Byram and Habibou with Pelts moving to rb

Agree1 Disagree1

Burke and boyd are poor

Agree1 Disagree5

Habibou often plays as a winger and I guess that's where he'll be and with Morison and Rosco in the middle I think we could do some damage.

Agree2 Disagree0

If we get an injury to a striker then we will need players to come in and do a job. Pretty simple really.

Agree1 Disagree0

Yes we maybe did try for others, but for whatever reason we aint. so stop whinging. Its been our best Jan in many a year, and the players bought in our good. Although most fans it would seem would rather we break the bank and sign someone like SWP for crazy money, and then be wondering why he's not upto much in a few months as Man city, and QPR have found out. .

Agree2 Disagree1

It was nice for once to see more stories about leeds on tv than any other Champ team and majority of Prem. Technically we have made 6 singings. I would of liked a winger but I have a feeling NW can see HH playing in a wide role, I'm purly going on clips I have seen but he looks to have pace and skill and can put in a good ball. Also so many fans have seemed to forgotten Barkley, chances are he will stay for a good few more weeks maybe even till the end of the season as the loan window opens in 8 days! he hasn't had the chance to play in a good game with us yet being cup tied. Atleast we have a hell of a lot more pace going forward as appose to diouf, beccs, tonge and norris.

Agree2 Disagree0

Moan, moan, bl**dy moan.

. we got three players in and lost one average striker?

We probably spent no money?

What more do you want?

In case you didn't notice it father christmas comes in december, not january. .

well that's it guys we lost Becchio and gained 3 new faces, all good signings in my eyes, shrewd Leeds yet again spent nowt gained 3 players and a small amout of cash, Whilst all the rumours av yet again being way off the radar Warnock brings in some quality players, I for one think Morison is a better all round player than Becchio, but will miss Becc's he served us well but he wants prem footy now and a bigger pay packet so bye and good look. S Warnock a very good left back just what we needed and Habib might just be our new Yaboah. time will tell, finally time will also tell wi GFH as they haven't sent a penny this window which doent read well. . .
