It may be interesting this season keeping everybody happy. In midfield we have a wealth of "riches" If? 4 across then possibly Dallas and Roofe on the wings with Big Dave as defensive cover which then means finding a 5 into 1 problem from Ronaldo/ Grimes/ Mowatt/ Phillips and Murphy. A good problem to have but a problem non the less.
The forwars may help for if Wood does not come out guns blazing then we can easily pair Antonsson with Roofe. Still all this is supposition until we see the preferred set come the 7th either way it all makes me rather optimistic for the future.

Must say I share your your optomosm. Monk looks very able and seems to be building a squad where there is competition for places, something we did not have last season. Would put sacko or botaka ahead of Murphy though. He adds little to the team imo. If we get left back and another cb nearly there. Reece wabarra on our radar so media say. Would be a good addition and free agent. Berardi can play left or right so I expect Taylor to be gone by january if we get left back, and he has not signed new deal.

Dave will be used as a CB.

That's why I enjoy football the differing opinions. That's why some managers do very well and some don't. I don't think Bamba, Belusci or Cooper are great although Cooper has improved recently. With his right head on Belusci was the best of the three by a country mile and will do well back in Italy. Bamba was the worst. We need better. Cook will probably be very good but he wasn't brilliant last season. To be fair he was played out of position a lot presumably because he wasn't good enough to earn his favourite spot. We need an older head in the middle of the park and decent centre halves. To get up we need players who excel at this level right now not in years to come. Monk's job is to get the right balance and the right quality asap.

Agree with all that Hess. Bell could be brilliant but too many moments of madness and bad influence on dressing room. Bamba not living up to his early promise and too clumsy far too often. Cooper a bit of a steady eddy imo who has improved. Could do with someone as good as Sol or Bell on their best day but who plays like that consistently. Love Lewis but like Sam, he's given us good service and the time is right for him to move on. Wasn't really a game changer very often, which I think is what we still lack.

I would rather have kept Sam than any of the others.

Agree Aussie. But he wanted to go unfortunately, and probably needed to.

i think bellendschi was one of the worst defenders we ever had, I never see him play well, I only saw him make bad fouls, play stupid balls, get skinned lose posession and lose his man. He occassionaly did something like a 30 yard ball which made him look better than he was. I still never forgave him for the double foot roll over skill against huddfeild when 3-1 down he was just a bellendschi even made roque jr look like radebe. I do like cooper and think he may have a good season for us, just hope we get at least two other defenders that are at least as good if not better than cooper.

If we don't get better than Cooper then we are in trouble.

BW. Bell boy did have a few great games I think. The trouble was it was always squeaky bum time when he was charging in for a tackle.

Bell never cut it for me as a cb. Would be better defensive midfield so unpredictable as last line of defence. Bamba, totally unimpressed. For some one with his experience can't read the game, never organised defence, one paced. Never understood why we bought him and let fabro go ehen cooper and fabro had a great understanding in development squad.

i remember going to one leeds game and having leeds to win 2-1 and vardy fts. on talking about this to mates two ST holders turned round and went vardy first to score you must be joking, when I explained it was because i'd rather lose a jacks than have him score and me not be on it as he is useless they laughed and went on to heckle him for 90 minutes. 90 minutes in which he was both clueless and not interested, he spent more time talking to NW than running. Any player who inspires that reaction from ST holders must be up there with true leeds greats.

Apart from the Middlesborough game when both Bamba and Belusci gave away goals (Bamba being the most careless) , and discounting the last few games when there was nothing much to play for, when Belusci played we usually kept a clean sheet or conceded just one. I understand why Belusci wasn't everybodies favourite and its probably as well that he's gone. However, the main reason for dropping points was the inability for the mid field to win the ball consistently and to create chances. Failure to hold the ball up and score with the few chances we had was also a major problem. Portugal demonstrated even with an 'iffy' centre back pairing you can still do well if the players in front of them and at full back do their jobs well. We still need one or two centre halves and a commanding and experienced mid fielder. Ronaldo Viera looks very promising but like most of the others we have he hasn't the experience.

Viera may not be experienced but he makes up for it with the confidence he has. Saw lots of him last season and been waiting for him yo get his chance, forget cook.

The only way he will gain the experience is with first team action. Birdcage could probably teach him a thing or two so may be worth having him back for that alone.

Diagouraga could end up being deployed as a central defender meaning Vieira and Grimes are the first choice midfield pairing. Promising but inexperienced. Will be interesting to see formation Monk adopts. 442 could serve us well this season if Wood and Antonsson are going to play together with Roofe and Dallas or Sacko on the wings. Completing our transfer business will surely help matters.
