I think most would agree we need to prioritize more goals In the January sales, Rhodes for me is too similar to Wood and not superior enough to justify the estimated cost. if we are shopping in the 6 to 8 million market then I would prefer a bid for Nakki Wells, if its to be the loan market for short term effect Robbie Keane for me. Does anyone know what happened to Patrick Bamford'? . Midfield top of my wish list would be Johnny Howson, but I also like the look of Henri Lansbury at Florist, both can create and score above average. If funds are low Pappa could always up his bid for Sam Winnal to say 325,000, that should do it?

Lansbury a great call. Proper ball player. Wells wouldn't suit our system imo but Rhodes would give Wood real competition.

Robbie Keane? He's older than me! Adam or a cheeky bid for hoolahan from the canaries Crouch on loan till end of season. Is he older than Keane.

Peter Crouch on loan or one year deal all day long. He would destroy this league and suits our play.

Crouch is 6 months younger than Keane, but Keane is match fit having just finished MLS season playing every week. When you are getting 6 to 8 chances a game ( as Beckford league 1 campaign) you can afford to be wasteful and still return good numbers, when chances are at a premium you need to be far more clinical, which is why the top guys fetch mega money, as Keane would be fee free, even at 36 I feel he would get double figures goals for half a season in Championship which could well make the difference.

20 Dec 2016 14:29:08
I agree he is a good player, however unless we play a different style I don't see the fit, that is why I think Crouch would be a better choice. IMO of course!

I can see arguments for most cases. Fletcher (or another youngster) for the long term. For me sooner rather than later as, not a big fan of Wood but if our conveyor belt of youngsters is still working then there is a shout for Crouch/Keane as a short term answer. Also maybe there is another Beckford lurking in non league, we can pick up cheap and train on?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2016 23:20:34
no to beckford, I think crouch suits style of play, keane can do a job but not in our current set up/style of play. I still think ex leeds bloke at rotherham is perfect fit, same as wood, offers a lot, knows league and scoreing in really poor rotherham team.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Dec 2016 07:23:02
I think he meant someone like Beckford bw, not actually Beckford. Another gem from non league.

Not sure we can risk an 'unknown' at this stage. That said we could spend a fortune and still not get the bucket load of goals. If we can pull off more set pieces and score from more corners then I reckon we have the goals we need in what we have. I am not saying we don't need to add strength or depth, we just don't need to waste a bucket load of money on a knee jerk buy, not when we spent 3 mil on Roofe! We might be on the up but we haven't suddenly got mega bucks and until we have the ground back and have off loaded some of the current wage bill, I personally, do not see how it is financially viable and could cause us problems in the future. Let's just keep the positive outlook and keep supporting the current Squad -that ain't doing a bad job😜.

sorry then yeah another beckford would be amazing, pace to burn and able to finish. also MC wouldn't let him go for free like bates did. if we had a young beckford now mc would probably get 15 mill for him. also not a fan of howson, never really rated him. if any ex player back at the moment I would go for lennon, although not sure if everton would let him go.

hi, been reading all the post so thought I would put my tuppence worth in as always. Firstly very pleased with how things are going, we seem to not always play well but get the three points. What pleased me most about brentford game was 89 minute gola, very fergerson and man u like, which shows team has sprit belife and will fight to the death people saying about lack of quality and squad depth and I disagree to an extent. don't get me wrong would love a few buy in jan but our points total with out o'kane, bridcut, hanadez and last game wood shows our sqaud can pick up points with major players out. 90 minutes without wood showed how good and important he is, unsung hero for me, his absence showed what he does how effective he is and his goal total in our set up is nothing short of amazing, for me one of the best in league. I do think we need back up as douk ok but only for 15 minutes and ant not showed class, roofe also not answer up front. but who can we get as back up striker, not many would come to leeds to sit on bench and to replace wood would be a sin IMO. I would go for the fella at rotherham, ex leeds boy, very similar to wood in style, knows league, has scored few in poor rotherham team and might be happy to play secdond fiddle at leeds. main thing for me is a keeper, green against reading showed he should never wear shirt again, we kept clean sheet dispite green, his save was easy yet he made it look hard and parried it to middle of goal, and his commanding clearing punch at the end was laughable. both our keepers have weaknesses but green has no strehgnts as is as poor as sil in sil's weakest areas. Also silvestri can be a match winner as shown green can only be a match loser. I would love to see silvstri play in better defence as I think our defence this year has saved green and last year it made silvstri look worse, however if GM don't like the cat then we need a keeper as we will not go up with green he is too poor by far (maybe worse in league if worse keepers please say who) ? However love monk, love our results and even better when conisdered who we have had out and who we have played, I think if team stays as it is it will be playoffs (as it has shown so far) with players coming back and few additions we might push for auto matic but think that is too big an ask as newcastle will be champs and brighton don't look like they will impolde, that said they have before when looking good so who knows, so bloke up front from rotherham and good keeper from santa plus loan signings made perminanat and I will be a very happy cockney. Also on another note sacko looks better and better every time I see him, if he keeps up form and improving he will be new max gradle MOT.

Think we could sort out cover/strengthening with two signings if we follow up our interest of Boltons Clough. Him and a CB gives us depth at CB, AM and ST, we are good enough everywhere else once a couple get back from injuries. Seems Monk prefers Fletcher for the ST role though if the rumours are true. As for Green over Silv, can think of two things that could be swaying Monk. First is Greens distribution, he gets it out quick, to feet, usually to one of the defenders (also looks more comfortable when it gets played back to his feet) . Silv tends to just belt it forward, saw Bartley screaming at him a few time during cup matches and each time he waved him away and kicked it long. Second is communication, Green generally talks to the players more but the big tell for me is Monks reluctance to put Pontus on when Silv is on. Could be they struggle to understand each other and Monk would rather Pontus and Green than Cooper and Silv. More likely the style thing though, Monk seems to like us to play out from the back.

Now that we have strung a good few results together we seem to be getting past the idea that all the players in the first '15' are just what we need. We are now looking at the next level by identifying that, for example, Phillips gives the ball away too much as does Vierra. We also lack the creativity to make more chances and provide the space for our forwards to worry defenders. Goal keeping is also an issueWe need to strengthen if not in January certainly in Summer. I don't think we are good enough as we stand for promotion this season unless we get in more quality. The down side is results have coming with a bit of quality but more from solidarity and team spirit. It will be a challange for Monk to get players in at the right price and those that won't upset the dressing room. Interesting to see what the management do - whoever they are.

Agree, we need to address the quality in the squad as it is very difficult to just survive in the prem especially for the teams that go up through the playoffs.

19 Dec 2016 14:48:42
Hess I am left in no doubt that we will add to the ranks with quality in January. We are surely considering Adam Clough Winnall Bogle Rhodes and another central defender. We may even look at oldies such as Milner and Delph on loan. I'd love for Snoddy to return too.

Read today we are looking at Ashley fletcher. 1 goal in 13 appearances this season isn't great and not what is required to keep up there. Also while I'm on, for me kelvin Philips is our weakest link in midfield. (Along with grimes) hopefully with bridcutt and okane coming back. He won't be starting for quite a while.

You are correct Slough but KP has put in shifts and been a part of our winning streak. He will continue to learn and improve. A very good option to have on the bench.

Got to give KP some credit. Never played that position much in reserves wasin front of cook so he has done ok imo. Still lot to learn. Think virra hasdone his bit as well. Agree we need bridcutt and o kane playing for over xmas and new year.
