Looks like Derby are going for it big time this season. Signed Bent, Pearce, Carson and now Andreas Weimann for £2m and have Paul Clement as manager. All good signings IMO.

They've got to be one of the favourites for promotion this year.

I agree Mick, Derby Leeds Middlesbrough in that order.

MM, you are not wrong. To the poster who think we are in the mix you are way off. You need at least one goalscorer to achieve promotion. We don't have the personnel yet. Neither Sharp nor Antenucci will score more than 12 each. You need a 25 man to do the biz.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jun 2015 07:42:23
Give antenucci a full season and he'll give you a 20 goal return. But he needs a mate up top with him. He cannot play as a loan striker.

It's to early to tell, as we stand we may finish in the top half, let's start making predictions at the end of July when we we can see how the recruitment has gone. At the moment, with only one likely starter signed, plus the experience gained of the young players, minus the year two blip many young players suffer from, I can't see us being consistent for long enough periods in the season to challenge.

Jeeez George, if I go out and buy a bag of chips, will you come an p**s on them for me. Get a grip son, anything can happen so why not be positive. I know its difficult, just try :)

19 Jun 2015 11:38:43
I see your point George but two seasons back we had a couple of strikers who scored nearly FIFTY between them and we were still piss poor! Well, inconsistent anyway.
That said I would love a Deeney or a Jordan Rhodes.

19 Jun 2015 13:08:44
Cork, this is exactly my point. Quality strikers can bag many against championship defenders even in a bad side. We had to sell mcbadgekisser but selling smith was very silly. Sharp looks like he on his way and we messed Antenucci about last season. Who do we have? Vid, these are the realities. It's not about being negative for sake of it. Our owner is worth a ton but instead of buying back ER "tomorrow" or spending it on proven players like Gradel and Lambert who would make us tick we are just taking baby steps. If I don't pressurize cellino in these posts who will? It's for good of our club because while agents exist in the game expect the "byram problem" with all our good youngsters in 2 years if we fail to spend. Believe me this is how the big clubs look at the leeds situation. They hoping we fail and the FL love to help. Everyone knows on here I only want best for my team. You have right to disagree with my opinion but until we acquire players in the weak positions of the right calibre I will continue to be a complaining voice of reason

George, we are ignorant of the realities, only what we read in the press. Buying a shed load of players does not guarantee success. It is team spirit, a good blend, patience, harmony from top to bottom of the club. It is not the last minute bogof of last summer. let's see where we are at the end of July. You may be pleasantly surprised!

If we are set on losing byram then let's let him go to highest bidder if other clubs really want him that bad then they will top the eight mill sunderland have apparently offered? Mot

Ed do you know the latest with Byram? Hearing different rumours n also do you know anyone who we are really interested in?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed013's Note - Sunderland are the obvious party that are interested, but it goes deeper than that. Villa, Liverpool, Norwich and some say even Man City are interested, but are yet to make an offer (I imagine lots more un-named clubs have watched him). If Sunderland match Leeds valuation expect to see other clubs come in for him. Byram's agent is keen for a move, but unsure on where Byram himself would prefer to go if Leeds accepted a move for him. If he does move it needs to be to a club that will play him otherwise he could become another youngster on the scrap heap}

I have seen the below posts reference Sam and although 8 million is a good fee, I personally think that we should not sell any of our star players. If we are going to challenge next season, we need him and then add 3-4 quality players in positions we all know we need and we would have a chance. We are not going to progress as quickly if we keep selling our best players. I think we are in a period of good momentum at the moment which will be slowed down if we sell. As I said the fee is good but having money does not mean you can get the right quality in to replace him.

18 Jun 2015 19:35:33
Disagree. Darikwa looks competent at this level and could replace byram. He's only a right wing back. Turning byram into Darikwa Gradel/Ince and Icelandic guy we chasing seems a no-brainer. Selling byram means inproving team in weak areas turning us into genuine playoff candidates meaning Mowatt and Cook will stay as they will see progression and a belief we can be promoted. Byram is the sacrificial glue to maintain and build on what we have.

Unfortunately its a case of a player entering the last year of his contract! The dilemma of the club who holds that contract is will he sign on the dotted line at the end of his current one? or will he walk for nothing? We don't really know for sure how talks have gone between Leeds and Sam, but dialogue must have taken place with him his agent and Leeds to remind MC that a prized asset could leave for free! I believe the die has been cast and he will leave for the best offer Leeds get!

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2015 20:57:34
George the problem is we won't get any of those players and that's my point, Gradel if he goes will go into the Premier league, there are several Serie A clubs chasing the Icelandic player and cannot see Ince coming, leaving us with an unproven League 1 player who Rosler says he is not interested in. Also who is to say the money will go towards transfers, maybe some but I doubt all of it, my other point is would more players be attracted to the club if he keep our best players and be part of a exciting new era. I appreciate we don't know if he wants to sign an extension, if he does I would keep, if he is not going to then I agree we should sell.

18 Jun 2015 21:31:14
I can't believe we'd let one of our prized assets get towards the last year of their contract before discussing a new one. Doesn't really put us in the driving seat. If he had a three year contract, we could at least wait a year and see where we were. As it is we can't afford to let him run this last year down and walk for nothing if we don't achieve promotion.

I agree with Kjc. his agent will drive this transfer.and who blames the kid. look at the financial aspects .plus at the right club with a lot of game time he could become like Delph now making his mark internationally. by the way I'm sure I read roster wasn't interested in darikwa. and the Icelandic guy there's no chance. their after a fee around 2.5 mill.so back to serie b players as usual. every year it becomes more difficult to compete with teams relegated from the premier and it needs a massive investment whether that be from giving your better players better contracts or bringing in established players .it may sound like defeatism but I don't see a way out .it's all about money

I'm sure Rosler will be interested in the chesterfield boy if we lose Sam. I accept it's hard to entice the better players but we need to do this unless we are going to find or develop the youth in the areas we are missing. Tall order. To date we have never found a goalscoring striker from the youth. Smith was not prolific in front of goal but I accept he was a fine player. We need to invest buy our way up the league.

If we loose him as a right back, we have Wooton and Berradi to play the position and are solid enough. If we loose him as a winger we have no-one.

Virtually everyone for the last few years has been commenting that we have no wide players, Redders last year did well to turn Taylor and Byram in to those, but if we searioulsy don't bring any in than I don't thik we will have a chance this season.

We really need to buy a couple at least and it looks like Darikwa is the only one linked. I did say Wright Philips may be a benchwarmer type option, but he hasn't played much. I really wanetd McLean, but didn't relaise he had 1 year left on his contract. Okaka, don't make me laugh. So the new recruitment chap has his work cut.

Genuinly I think as a minimum we need 2 wingers, a left back and a combative midfielder. Anyone else will be a bonus.

I've got chicken salad for tea followed by a jelly. Top tip here: if you mix a yogurt into your jelly before putting it into the fridge it separates and sets. You can have that one on the house courtesy of Mick.

God I'm so interesting - just off to top myself!

What an underwhelming couple of days! I'm getting really frustrated at the lack of news. Don't get me wrong, nobody has done anything wrong but during closed season I crave news, any news and the likes of NN is constantly churning out the same things we already heard about days ago.

I'm sat here working (hardly) and constantly flicking back to see if we've signed anyone, but nothing.

I NEED NEWS. come on, someone, anyone! Is anyone else as addicted as I am?

I'd rather lose mowatt than Byram. Sounds strange I know but. If Byram willing to sign new contract. I'd say he was more valuable to us than mowatt. Like mowatt and love his goals and know he helped big time last year but I think Byram will prove to be a better player. But if Byram not signing. Shift him out and cash in.

In Phillips we have a player who is potentialy better than Mowatt so I would prefer Byram to stay. Its up to Sam really if he says no I do not think he will be forced out
