4m for gradel snap there hands off next season he will go for nowt and line his own pockets also 1 good season doesn't make him him a world beater what will he be worth if he has a bad season a fraction of the price and if he has another good season maybe double what he's worth now but we won't see any of it cos he will be out of contract. {Ed045's Note - Still a lot of development to take place in this story.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Rumour has it that Billy Paynter is taking music lessons on a farm in Yorkshire as he can't endure another season of not being able to hit a cows arse with a banjo MOT {Ed045's Note - LOL

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Think we should be backing our players not destroying them. That's all Leeds players.

Agree4 Disagree4

I would definitely back Paynter to disprove the saying "He couldnt miss from there" next season. I would even back him to win the 3.30 at Newmarket because he is absolute pony

Agree6 Disagree0

That said, he destroyed us when playing for Swindon, think that says more about our defence at the time though, and what have we done to shore our defence up, bog all as yet, Bates should employ George Graham as defence coach, hes been out of work that long hed work for peanuts, so right up Bates street eh.

Agree0 Disagree2

We had one of the best defences in league 1

Agree0 Disagree1

We let plenty in for the best defense...lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Not only did we have the "best defence in league 1" but didn't that swindon team do us over twice with painter, hum I think he's still got something, but don't feel SG playing him right, he needs to play off a front man, I seem to remember he is someone who likes to strike from distance {Ed032's Note - all about confidence with strikers

Agree1 Disagree0

We are no longer in league 1 but we all wish Paynter was because he's cack. I've got more chance of winning the euromillion jackpot than he has of scoring 10+ goals next season. Stop defending him for gods sake he's mertha kit

Agree2 Disagree1

16 Jul 2011 20:44:37
What does everone think of Billy Paynter as a player? the games i saw him in he didnt look like a championship player but then again i dont think he had enough games

Im just tryin to see what the rest of the leeds fans think {Ed045's Note - This seems to have split the fans more than the Smith saga, I personally think give him until January, but a lot of fans saying he isn't cut out for Championship life. It's a bit of both, he didn't get much game time (Ross McCormack played 21(15) league games and got 2 league goals and Billy played 23(14) but got one, but people aren't saying get rid of Ross). I guess SG will let us all know in the near future.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

People aren't saying get rid of Ross because they can see he's a good footballer. Paynter is an old-fashioned numb centre-forward. Unfortunately the game has moved on, he's a League One striker at best. {Ed045's Note - I understand that, but the form guide puts them both at pretty much the same level, and that's what footballers go by right?

Agree2 Disagree2

When Billy signed for us the Swindon fans said they weren't that bothered because it was his 1st decent season for them and they thought it was down to Austin. Nothing I have seen suggests he can play above League one, I have nothing against him but feel he is too slow for CCC - If we move him on good luck to him but we would be really short of strikers...... as well as a keeper , defenders & midfielders

Agree3 Disagree0

The "form guide" as you call it says McCormack has scored goals in the Championship before, but Paynter hasn't. My own eyes also tell me the same. Simples.

Agree2 Disagree0

The form guide also stated that Michael Bridges was a top goalscorer in the Premiership, before struggling to score goals in every level thereafter. So it's about the future, Not the past. {Ed045's Note - My point exactly.

Agree0 Disagree3

Rubbish Bridges is a different topic altogether, injuries finished him. Bad argument mate

If I was simon I would let gradel go if you can get 4m, you might ask why well, a year ago gradel was going nowhere he nearly cost us prom yes he was amazing last year but I think loyd sam could have the same kind of season as max had, then the money we get for max could build a defence around paddy and buy another 20 goal a season man to go alongside becchio. {Ed032's Note - if he can go for nothing in a year i would sell him too. i don't even think we need to replace him but agree we should strengthen the defence

Believable4 Unbelievable6

Nonsense How could we not need to replace him?

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jul 2011 19:49:49
has anybody actually got any proof somma is injured because i cant find anything.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I've not seen the scans but as SG confirmed ACL damage in his post-match (Motherwell) interview I'd say it's true

Agree2 Disagree0

He put it on his twitter

16 Jul 2011 19:20:15
I think people are being very harsh on Paynter. Ye he can't hit barn door but cast your minds back to an early Beckford. He was horrible and we sent him out on load. But when he got some confidence things soon changed and I think Billy will be the same Let's get behind the lads Remember Billy out scored Beckford in league 1 {Ed032's Note - exactly its all about confidence and he always played well against us

Believable1 Unbelievable4

So are we agreeing we should send him out on loan then.. {Ed032's Note - i think we should keep him

Agree0 Disagree2

Im sure paynter wants first team football and he just aint going to get it at leeds lets be fair he is fourth choice at best, let him go out on loan, he had two good seasons at swindon in league 1 in which he scored some goals against us.

Agree1 Disagree0

He got one today :)

OK it was ruled offside but imo if a striker never gets caught offside he's not pressurising enough

C'mon Billy C'mon Billy

Agree0 Disagree3

Admire your support but let's Be honest here, Paynter is absolute garbage He hasn't looked fit since he arrived at the club and simply looks cumbersome and out of place. I really agree we should get behind the lads but I don't see Paynter as anything more than a spectator if he stays as GRayson clearly doesn't rate him and nor do 90% of the Leeds faithful. I say get rid now and use the extra wage budget to bring in the quality we expect at the mighty whites

Agree3 Disagree1

That's a bit of an assumption to say Grayson doesn't rate him He had a bad injury, was out for most of the season SMS found himself not totally fit and miles behind becchio, somma and gradel. All hard acts to follow when they had been doing if proper for almost 20 games. I am sure Grayson rates him and is giving him the encouragement he needs. He has the talent, the step up isn't that great from league one to championship. I witnessed the goal at deepdale last year and it was a well executed finished. I am sure with chances and confidence he will become a profitable striker {Ed045's Note - Good fair point.

Agree0 Disagree2

Come off it, we're not blind - he's rubbish.

Agree1 Disagree0

Billy has scored 4 championship goals in 53 games for Leeds, Hull and Scunthorpe. Ross McCormack has scored 27 in in 95 games for Leeds and Cardiff (although 21 of those were in his first season at Cardiff and he has only scored 6 in 57 games since)...Get well soon Luciano :O/ {Ed032's Note - good stats

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2011 18:42:48
hi ed, ive got nunez 33 on my new shirt.. Do you thin he will change squad number? Im gonna look like a right prat if he does.. {Ed032's Note - i think you'll be fine and have made a good choice as he will shine this season

Believable8 Unbelievable1

16 Jul 2011 18:04:59
I was saying Nunez should have been playing at the start of last season {Ed032's Note - larry obviously saw the lad has talent but has taken time to adapt to the english game.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2011 18:03:27
Nunez direct replacement for somma who is out for 5-6 months.. Somma will be missed tho Becchio mccormack and nunez to be our main 3 strikers. Paynter must go out on loan, if he is chosen before ramon and ross to pair up with becchio, something is seriously wrong Rant over {Ed032's Note - i think nunez and mccormack will come good this season for us and will be like 2 new signings

Believable11 Unbelievable1

Glad you agree with me ed.. I know you have said before we should give paynter a chance but dont you think he has had his chances? And do you agree we should send him out on loan? Nunez is exciting {Ed032's Note - strikers are all about confidence. he was always good when he played against us

Agree4 Disagree3

I say it again get behind billy because he will come good...

Agree1 Disagree10

Simple question ed..... Paynter out on loan yes or no? We all want to hear it {Ed032's Note - i'd keep him. couple of goals and he will be like a different player

Agree0 Disagree6

Think we all knew what ramon was about last season and grayson has done well not to rush him into things, expect alot from him next season, he seems to do well wherever he goes. I hope grayson doesnt keep selecting paynter over ramon and ross tho.. No disrespect to billy, but I think with mccormacks championship experience and ramons international experience paynter should be put to the back of the que in terms of selection {Ed032's Note - i agree but i'd still keep him as offers different options

Agree2 Disagree1

Ed, I agree he does offer diffrent options.. as in if we ever want a 0-0 draw select billy {Ed032's Note - better thhan losing :)

Agree3 Disagree1

You all seem to be missing one small point in the Nunez/Paynter debate...Nunez isn't a striker He's an attacking midfield player who likes to play in behind the striker. While I personally don't rate Paynter (league 1 standard at best) with Becchio's fitness uncertain and Somma out long term we can not afford to let Billy go out on loan unless we first get adequate cover in to replace him. {Ed032's Note - i agree

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2011 17:45:06
just like to say not a bad start to pre season for the whites, the players look in good shape and look to be gelling together ok for only a handful of training sessions and two games.. nunez looks like he has a point to prove and seems to have benefitted from his loan to scunny last season, nice to see a few more youngsters getting a chance to bring something different to the team and showing good caricture to come from behind to win leeds4life {Ed032's Note - nice and positive. i am quietly confident for the coming season. 2 or 3 more additions and we will be up there. nunez to be star player

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Source S.Grayson in his post match interview after the Motherwell friendly. we won 2-1 Bruce and Nunez.

16 Jul 2011 17:05:43
just watched motherwell game, Nunez is definately one for the future if not now scored an amazing goal and played some quality football :D MOT

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Yea pleased with that result and Nunez. Looks very promising indeed. Leeds aren't we....

Agree5 Disagree1

One for the future? He's a full international, Viva El Principito

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2011 16:06:33
was it Rachuba who has already let one in at Motherwell then?
a good sign for the future i guess

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Yeah one for the future he is 30 yrs old.

Agree0 Disagree3

Watched it, nothing he could of done about it.

Agree1 Disagree1

Nothing he could have done? how about save it :-)

Agree1 Disagree1

Leeds only kept 11 clean sheets all season, Not sure how many of them were Kasper's so he wasn't as perfect as some may think. So as it stands Rachuba got a 50% clean sheet record in our goal, lets give him a chance hey

Agree3 Disagree1

You dont sell kasper and replace him with rachuba come on he is going to be no 2 at leeds. {Ed032's Note - i think we will be getting another keeper in

Agree2 Disagree1

16 Jul 2011 16:04:30
Why doesnt bates start paying some proper wages and i dont mean going into debt again, but come on we pay peanuts.Leeds is a great club with a massive fan base it just needs some decent financial backing not some cockney with a big ego.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Because we only made a very small profit last season to say how big a club we are, that's why he's upgrading stadium, so in the future we can afford to pay bigger wages. MOT

Agree2 Disagree1

£5-10k a week...Peanuts?? Wish my boss would throw those sort of peanuts in my direction ;O) {Ed032's Note - you pay peanuts, you get monkeys

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2011 14:51:21
This aint a rumour it is only my opinion.....instead of inventing storys about players who may have the privilege of playing for our great club, why don't you just sit back & let the story unfold. Bates has said himself that he wants us to be in the premiership we all know he won't spend loads of money but i am convinced that there are players in negotiation right now. ED your thoughts please?? {Ed032's Note - i agree. i think we will bring in a keeper, a defender and a midfielder and we will be stronger than last season. i think bates will get us to the prem and then sell up

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Totally agree Ed, Bates is first and foremost a business man who doesn't let his heart rule his head. He needs to build Leeds into an attractive proposition for someone to buy ie own ground, training facilities, no debt etc If we're in the premiership that also helps then I reckon he'll be looking for the big money buyout - at least that's what i'm praying for

This morning I was returning to Leeds Bradford Airport from Spain.Through my binoculars as the plane flew over Elland Road I could see Nick Montgomery and David Stockdale being shown around Elland Road by Simon Grayson.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Good rumour but graysons is on Scotland with the rest of the team and like people take binoculars with them on holiday

Believable1 Unbelievable11

16 Jul 2011 13:18:34
Ed, who is this Giles Barnes? Who does he play for and what position? Good signing? {Ed032's Note - he's a free agent after being released by west brom. used to play for derby. attacking midfielder/winger. not bad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2011 13:08:38
Ed, i don't understand the smith situation. if he's got a year remaining on his contract at NU but they are letting him leave on a free, surley they must still have to pay him in full anyway. so he should still get his 55-60k as been rumored from NU he could the sign for leeds on 15k, by my reckoning thats 15k per year more
I know NU want to pay less but they give him the contract, they should have to pay him in full.
Is this not the case.

We are Leeds MOT

-----------------------------------------------
Been told by an inside source at elland road (cannot say who because they could get sacked) that smith deal is deffo off unless he takes a significant pay cut with leeds only offering 22k max and newcastle not wanting to pay more than 15-20k a week for it to go through. DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER

Believable1 Unbelievable1

In reply to the top post that's a good point as he's not a free agent but allowed to leave for free. What does Ed think? {Ed032's Note - i'm not sure about the technicalities but i think if he signed a contract with a new club newcastle could just rip his contract up. if not he can sit tight pocketing 60k a week or newcastle could offer him a lump sum to leave

Agree0 Disagree2

16 Jul 2011 13:03:34
rumour is Leeds aren't going to sign anybody that is under 29
unless they are 17

Leeds will never pay over 3 mil for Billy Sharp so stop all the stupid rumours about him....we willonly get loans.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

16 Jul 2011 12:42:32
What's all this Billy sharp nonsense? Ipswich had a 3.5mil bid rejected last month Not a chance we would offer anything in that region

Wrong wrong wrong, sharp turned down ipswich. wanted to stay in yorkshire.

So Leicester still have 25 million to spend according to the Leicester newspaper, How can we possibly match that...
we are doomed this season

Believable1 Unbelievable6

What a ridiculous negative attitude Man city spent millions and amounted to pretty much nothing, Chelsea have done the same. QPR and Norwich were promoted last year on pretty much nothing other than loans and players with a will to win. Money doesn't bring you success.... Stick to your arm chair supporting

Agree3 Disagree1

Qpr are one of the richest teams in the country.

QPR have some of the richest owners, but that doesn't make them a Man City/Chelsea.

Quinn
Treacy
Montgomery
Stockdale
Clingan
Eremenko
Waghorn
Eastmond
Lonergan/Dudek/Turner/Maxwell

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Billy sharp doesn't play for sheffield... {Ed032's Note - think he means he lives in sheffield

Agree0 Disagree1

He can easily live in Sheffield and commute to Leeds... {Ed032's Note - have you been on the M1 in a morning?

Agree0 Disagree2

Yes, I live in High Green, Sheffield and commute to Wortley.. {Ed032's Note - sheffield to thorpe arch different story!
