Bates been seen at heathrow and the deal is done.the stumbling block was bates wanted more money and a high profile role still in Leeds united.
Money increased and he has a role but with no influence over the club.

Believable2 Unbelievable11

Why would Bates be at Heathrow then? You really think he has all that money and uses chartered flights rather than flying direct to Leeds/Bradford airport?

Agree2 Disagree1

He would fly on a chartered flight because as we all know, he is the tightest human alive!

Agree3 Disagree1

"He would fly on a chartered flight because as we all know, he is the tightest human alive!"

You are therefore also wrongly assuming Bates would be paying for his own fares too then?

You'll be telling us next that he lives on a barge because he's so tight, and not a multi-million pound yacht.....

Agree0 Disagree0

Bates's wealth is mainly asset based. He is not really that cash rich and private jets are seriously expensive - billionaire lifestyle rather than millionaire.

People were asking for a Fantasy football for this website, so i thought as i have already done my teams for both i might as well do a league for people to join.

1) The First is the knewly named "Phones 4u Fantasy Football" which is the championships fantasy football.

League Pin is: 8805

2) The Second is the official Barclays Premier League one:

League Pin : 985486-271167

These two are the best two for each league, hopefully ed can put them on both Banter and Rumour page.

cheers lads,

Anyone got any worries about any of the new lads, only asking cause they're still a bit of an unknown quantity to us. For me, listening to Yorkshire Radio on DAB against shrews, The third commentator guy, can't remember his name now, said at half time he though Pearce was poor (and yes i know we kept a clean sheet but we were a bit lucky to have done so in first half of the first half). The other thing i'm concerned about is lack of depth in centre midfield and upfront (in terms of number/quality?) thoughts?

NickW MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable10

Centre midfield is where we have the most strength in depth? have you looked at the squad recently lol, Austin Norris Green Brown and if somehow suddenly we lose 3 of those to injury then we have youngsters i believe can make the step up Thompson or possibly Lenighan..

Agree3 Disagree0

The third person you are referring to was from the fans panel and that's only his own view!

Agree2 Disagree1

Centre mid we have quite a few, Austin, Norris, Green, Brown. So I don't think that's a problem. Upfront we have McCormack, Becchio, Gray,Diouf can play as a striker, Somma once he's fit and I think varney can play as a striker too. so not too short there.
I'm more worried about on the wings being short of players.

Agree2 Disagree1

Its hardly suprising Pearce had a bit of an off day. So far he has partnered Cranie, Lees, Peltier, Kisnorbo. Needs to partner Lees imo. Best centre back pairing, but young pairing and need to gel together. But for injury I think that would have happened saturday

Agree2 Disagree1

Am i the only one that thought Pearce looked decent on saturday and i like the look of Pelts Austin and varney, we are finally starting to look a good team i would like to see a top striker and a winger just to finish the team off!

Agree6 Disagree0

I don't think we need a top striker just a striker thats got something different (pace/skill) we have becchio and mccormack for a 4-4-2 and we can play as a 3 in attack with mccormack and varney or diouf on either side of becchio. we still have rogers who can also play on the left side of the free as well if needed . if somma hurrys up and gets back he can play all over the front line but maybe hes not going to be ready until end of october and i think he will be our number 9 when he finally does return .

Don't know why this post exists, ANYTHING is better than the crap on the pitch I had to endure last season....

keep reading posts about the takeover AGAIN -we've been disappointed once so why don't we just sit tight and what will happen will happen. Personally I think we are only a striker and wide man away from a really strong team, never mind who we might bring in later (or January) IF the takeover happens - lets get down ER in our droves and be the thirteenth man !!

I think everyone is forgetting about David Somma, Is he still in a Leeds shirt? Will he be fit for this season? Last time I saw him he looked promising.

Im fear it'll be a re-run of last seaon;injury = lack of fitness=lack of opportunities in 1st team. Poor lad,

I really do hope this will it, want it, takeover does go through before the Wolves game. I was well impressed with the team on saturday. The first 15 mins were abit shakey, getting to know you play. Which showed us in them first 15, just how good Mr Kenny really is. We've not had a pair of hands like that since Martyn.
The first goal was scored by Becchio but the real diamond was the shot from, RUDY,RUDY,RUDY,RUDY. Proper pile driver and to hot to handle for there keeper.
Young Byram showed us just what he could do, really good on the ball and off it.
I'm more than buzzing for this season and with purtential 2 more signings. We will be unstoppable and will be a case of, catch us if you can.
The flags are raised and the white army is marching onwards. So watch out all you title wannabes. This is the class of 2012 and there coming to a ground near you.

Reason in favour of Rhodes potentially coming to Leeds:
1. If he doesn't want to move too far from where he already lives, Huddersfield isn't too far from Leeds.
2. He may feel that Leeds have a greater chance of promotion than Blackburn with a manager like Warnock
3. If he was forced to sell, Grayson may want to offload his best player to a club close to his heart... Leeds

Maybe it's not as unlikely as people think

Ed this may sound like the stupidest thing you've heard but what's peoples problem with kewell. Not saying I like him or don't just confused y people dont. Btw only really got stuck into leeds about 4 year ago so I don't know much about kewell. {Ed013's Note - Kewell moved to Liverpool for big money and Leeds received a small transfer fee for him when Leeds were going through a bad time. In reality he was worth a lot more, but never really rose to the occasion at Liverpool. Leeds fans would have probably of forgiven him for that, but the fact that he moved to Galatasaray was the final straw for most fans. OK, he wasn't involved in the killing of Kevin and Christopher, but out of a mark of respect he could have chosen any club other than them. Kewell went through the ranks at Leeds and was a crowd favorite. He understood the passion and knew how hurt the fans were after the Turkey incident. My opinion, as is most fans, he shouldn't have gone there as it felt like he was rubbing salt in the would. There will be people that will come on and fight his case for him and say he didn't have nothing to do with the incident and that he has done nothing wrong. Make your own mind up. Mine will not change}

Believable7 Unbelievable2

I loved kewell,all my passwords for computer related to his name.but your right out of respect he made an error of judgement and i dont want to see him again..shrew leeds {Ed020's Note - gotta agree with you, my password at work was kewell too, i gotta agree with you and ed013, i'd rather not see him back at leeds.}

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeah, I think Leeds were offered around 18 million by Inter Milan for him a few months before he left, but he didn't go. His agent got around half of the 'pathetic' transfer fee which we received for him from Liverpool. Now looking at that, maybe his agent was scaremongering him, and wanted some big bucks. He was a youngish lad so may well have been easily led, and so yes ED, we could have forgiven him for that. The big thing was the Galatasaray move. It sickened me to my stomach that he even CONSIDERED it, let alone did it.

I maybe even could have had the 'slightest' bit of understanding had it have been one of Europe's 'real' big guns - the Barcelona's and Real Madrid's for example - but Galatasaray were never gonna provide him with anything other than Turkish Championship medals, and an outside chance of the UEFA Cup. His choice was appalling, and at that point he was old enough to make his own mind up, and he gave no thought to those who had nurtured and supported him so well, so that was entirely down to him.

I still love the way he played when he was here, and what he did at Leeds, that will never change, because after all, it's part of our history. But what he did AFTERWARDS was unforgivable, and he can't /wouldn't / will not ever be welcome back in my book. EVER!

MOT! WMS!

Agree6 Disagree0

Kewell is the best example of a thick, greedy, ignorant & totally selfish person let alone a "footballer". Compare the integrity and greatness of current men & women who are REAL Leeds HEROES - the Brownlee lads, Nicola Adams, our lads & lasses in the armed forces and past heroes like John Charles, Billy, Don and the boys and you know that that vermin is NOT welcome in our great city and country EVER. FACT.

Agree3 Disagree0

Because the takeover saga has gone on for a while, its understandable how frustrating its become. It had all gone quiet for a while and then last week it had seemed that it had all gone belly up. Now, it appears its back on again and once again we are waiting on a conclusion.
NW has done an excellant job considering whats been happening and if he can pull of promotion then he can certainly be regarded as a great manager.

Agree2 Disagree0

Forget the takeover. 4-0 and i watched it, CLASS!! Compared to what Grayson put out last season. Now look at Huddersfield, they carn't buy a win at the moment. They would be lucky to finish mid table.
WARNOCK IS THE MESSIAH!!
mot4life

Agree3 Disagree1

Huddersfield can't buy a win?? They played one game don't make ridiculous statements about Grayson like that you only make yourself look bitter.

Personally I wasn't Grayson's biggest fan but to be fair he did get us promoted and then just missed out on play offs in first year back in championship and was only one point off the playoffs when he got the boot.

To be honest to make a comment like that is just outrageous when Warnock has only had one game so far this season (great start has to be said) seeing as I don't count Warnock's few months last season because in his defence he inherited the team so if Grayson had been left till end of season who knows.

I think Leeds should loan in dos santo from spurs for the season think he could do the job for use and if we get swp then we will be the team to beat .......... Or get in beckford and move McCormack out the right wing.

Leeds problem for years was the defence but thing this years we have got it right welldone nw

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Dos santos, is well overrated, much better quality out there. he would come with some ego, as they all do, when they drop down a league. we want players that fight for each other. blood, sweat and tears is what we want and getting.

The Takeover will not happen, it stated on the official website that talks have broken down. EVERY leeds fan should have a heart for ken bates, if Bates never bought us for £1, we wouldn't be here, we had massive debts to pay. Luckily Bates bought us, know one was interested, Bates Payed off all our debts. He came across some bad managers in the past eg. Dennis wise, mcallister ect. Simon grayson got us promoted, what more can we ask for from a first time manager..?But now bates has found the manager that will get us back to the promise land, where we belong, bates can be a tight bugger sometimes, but he has done us a favour, its just been going slow ' to save money' this is the season, MOT!

Believable9 Unbelievable27

Is it not possible that the problem with the sale of the club (If indeed Bates wanted more for it) is that the sale value of assets has increased since this all began? For example: Sale value of Sam Byram / Dom Poleon. Players we got on a free or low value fees (eg Norris/Varney/Austin/Pearce) :))

Hope Billy does well at Doncaster, he's made a decent choice and will get good game time over there. Probably end up being their top scorer next season as he's a good player at that level. A shame it didn't work out for him at ER, nice lad.

As far as the Diouf thing goes. Some people agree to the signing and some people don't. At first I was sceptical, but then I thought 'Hang on, it's only Diouf, at least (and thank god) it wasn't K**ell'!! Could have been a million times worse, and I'm willing to give the lad a chance. It's a footballing choice, and the sort of player who can shine in the Championship.
