Monk said start of season a lack of pre season friendlies would see us fresher towards end of season. Maybe about now we are going to kick on and peak in playoffs or even top two! Just a thought

I still think the top 2 places are up for grabs - anyone could go on a great run of form until the seasons end and we are getting into silly season now where results can be the opposite to what is expected. i wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle or even Brighton miss out.

I think that the lack of pre-season games has left us in 4th instead of higher, we were pretty rough in the first 8 games or so

15 Mar 2017 01:05:05
i think we are more likely to fall out of play offs than go up in 2nd. That is not saying i don't think we will make playoffs as i do think we are 95% cetrian to make it, just think we have no chance of 2nd britgon newcastle hudds and fulham all have more chance than us. Would love to go up thorugh playoffs that must be an amazing feeling and up their with the brith of your children or when you finally get to sleep with the sister in law hey MM?

later kick off on Satdi means I can actually attend the game and my ticket is booked! can't wait to worship at the cathedral again instead of having to make do with the radio or TV :) unfortunately, my record is similar to Bermo's so that might mean a loss : (

99% confident we'll do the biz on Saturday. Big big game for Beradi against Knockhaert. Don't like singling players out but the captain has to make way i believe. Hoping for a big game from Wood and just hope Hernandez turns up. 3-0!

Not sure your youngests powers are strong enough to deflect mine yet BW but I'd love it if they are.

This league being what it is Cork, wouldn't be the least surprised if we did win, but think it would only be by the odd goal. Knockhart is a fantastic player (played right wing on Friday, so hopefully Charlie will match him) , but watch out also for Glen Murray, was like Diego Costa against Derby and picked up his 18th goal of the Season. Also a young lad usually replaces Knockhart Solly March very skilful and direct. That being said we can definitely hurt them on the flanks their replacement full backs are certainly their weakness.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2017 22:56:50
if anyone can keep knockheart quiet it will be beridi on the right, still not confident though we have to improve to get anything other than spancked, be interesting if we are more positive or not?

13 Mar 2017 23:35:25
Well not that our chances rely only on him but Pablo's really gone off the boil, and if he boils again on Saturday, anything is possible

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Mar 2017 07:06:34
Class, you're right about Solly March. That's the difference between a team like Brighton and us at the moment because he is better than any of our wingers and he hardly gets a game. They have lots of strength in depth.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Mar 2017 09:39:17
Errrrr Berm, Beradi will keep him quiet on the right? Knockhart playing right wing us our defences left side. Could move Berradi to left back for the game, what's he like there at left back Berm ? 😂

Maybe if brighton score an early goal we will come at em like when brum equalised. Maybe.

15 Mar 2017 01:06:35
thought he was left because he is french so must be left wing in my crazy head. anyway if knockheart is right wing i would definitly put berardi there to cancle him out. oh no wait a minute.

13 Mar 2017 13:44:58
Don't like to critice Monky as he is doing a brilliant job, but I'm still dumbfounded that he played Ayling on Saturday. For me it was a no brainer to play Berardi and Taylor to avoid his suspension. Just thankful Bartley didn't also get booked and praying Berardi doesn't get injured or sent off in next 2 games

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Mar 2017 16:39:50
cant believe he played berardi on the left, taylor better and if he don't want to play taylor for whatever reason why not sell him for the 7.5 mill or what ever it was a buy a left back he likes.

taylor has to play every minute or it won't be worth the hassle of keeping him and turning away the fee. also think and hope monk is playing with tactics for options as we are too deep and anyone even hockaday can see that

Bermo Taylor just back from injury so a risk playing him twice in a few days. You right though best LB in league by a long way.

this is becoming a bit of a killkenny, ken bates and even hock situation for me. at night i am up mumbling beridi on the left and swearing and lashing out at anything near me.

{Ed033's Note - Is beridi easier to mumble than Berardi? 😋

13 Mar 2017 23:37:55
Well don't worry BW. I think you can more or less guarantee he won't be on the left on Saturday. He'll be on the right, for part of the game at least!

Monk has done what should have happened a long time ago - build from the back. We have a goal keeper finding his feet again and a back four which is as good as anything in the division and probably better.

Defensive mid field is good with cover to spare. That's where we have got to this season. To be favourites for promotion next season - as I don't believe we are good enough yet - we have to sort out the mid field's ability to get forward in numbers and then create chances.

Just putting another striker up top will not be be good enough either. We rarely get more than two in the opposing box and all three forwards (Central striker and two wingers) are usually isolated. Too much is been asked of the wingers particularly against a massed defence.

What usually happens is we give the ball to the wide men and shout 'run at them'. Faced with two defenders and Wood the only man in the box surrounded by defenders it's not surprising that an 'impossible' pass is tried or possession is lost trying to beat the second or third defender.

We need to be releasing the wingers where they have an even chance of doing something. Getting forward in numbers with quality midfielders is an answer . With quality in midfield -going forward- you could even get away with playing two up front if you wanted. We have come on a long way and have become a good championship side.

To move to the next level we need to improve the all round play in midfield. With them getting forward without compromising the defence we will see how good our wingers actually are and if they are not up to scratch we need to get some that are.

So next season we need cover at Centre half (or more if we don't keep our present two), Cooper needs to go as he isn't good enough, a replacement for Hernandez who is far too inconsistent (although excellent on his day) and a striker to give Wood cover or support. We have massively improved but we still have a way to go. No shots (or very few) shots on target will not get you a season on top.

Agree, work in progress, we have come a long way and are sitting well in 4th . The squad when fresh and fit can give anyone a game, we lack depth in the squad to cover over a long season and to keep the players in form, there are about six players that could be shipped out and if we replace with right quality we would be better placed to achieve promotion and to then compete at the higher level

13 Mar 2017 10:27:51
Agree with most hess. 2nd paragraph i don't though. Defensive midfield is good? Depends on your definition. I see a definite mid as a player that helps defense. Breaks down attacks and pass the ball to midfield and away from danger. Our def mid passes to the defenders all the time causing more problems. Which then means the other midfielder spend to much time assisting and playing to deep leaving little attacking threat.

Great Post Hess 👍
I would only add looking at current favourites for promotion you need a minimum of three players strikers/midfielders who will score 10-15 goals (huge ask I know) as with wordy we very much have all our eggs in one basket. Full backs, must have the attacking ability of any winger, and also a knack for scoring goals. Lost count of the points that Smith has secured for the udders from right back.

13 Mar 2017 13:27:57
Having said all the above, we still have the best goal diff in the playoff pack . jus saying :)

13 Mar 2017 16:13:05
Again Agree, mostly. I think the midfield needs sorting. I do not think Monk knows his best pairing yet. Everyone has his strong points but each one carries too many playing errors which need to be eradicated to progress; and become a dominant Midfielder. The signs are there and age is on their side but unfortunately patience is not always the name of the game.

Success is wanted today! . At the moment the mentality is to play safe. Play back or sideways. So far so good but to kick on we need a DM with a forward pass in him (a'la Carrick) . One who can quickly find Pablo or even an advanced winger.

Quickly turn defence into attack. Every negative pass gives the opposition that little extra time they need to regroup. Hey, I say all this but if Garry has dragged us to 4th with two DMs and if we are 4th at the end with 2 DMs then what do I know.

I agree with what you're saying, but would you not rather be a struggling premier league side to fight to remain there, and develop in a better league and attract newer players, than to become a solid all round championship team for another season?

We may not get this opportunity again, we could finish 7th or below next year and underachieve, and so on forever, we may not keep all of the quality we have found as, as they get better they will leave to the big leagues.

We need to push for what is happening right now, having a vision is good, but making it happen is better and ultimately everybody at the club has eyes on the premier league, no matter how we get there, and this is our best chance in 13 years, with the strongest squad in my opinion for years.

Agree or disagree, either I'm being short sighted and unrealistic, or I'm being passionate and trying to get right behind the players we have NOW, to get where we as a Club want to be next year.

We need luck to go up, but let's be fair, so do reading and Wednesday, they're not exactly in fine form either. Aside from huddersfield we are the best team fighting for the play offs, so if we could overcome them, why can't we do it? MOT

we could sneak up and that is great to be in the pot this time of year. my only worry is losing monk, wood, vieria, ped and bartley and having to start again. i hope this is not our only shot

13 Mar 2017 16:47:31
By defensive midfield is good I mean just that. They put in a shift, get tackles in and break up play. However that s where it stops. They don't push on and we give the ball away too much. So defensively ok but it doesn't translate into domination. ie we defend well but we have to because our defending doesn't create much going forward and we keep having to do the same things over and over again. We do well to keep clean sheets.
