Just read that MC offered Byram a new contract, but on lower wages and on longer terms. Hmmm, just think the guy has it backwards.

There were maybe clauses attached to that but still.

Still don't think this chap understands the English game enough, but things are getting better.

Murphy accepted a similar contract offer so I can only assume they are performance based. Makes sense really. Play well, team does well, team makes more money so players get a bigger wage packet. Also putting a hefty wage increase if we get promoted clause in is a good incentive.

I think there's a big difference with the two players. One, is being openly courted by Premier league managers, the other, as far as we know wasn't. I can see the merits in offering Murphy a longer contract on reduced wages but if Byram's agents are telling him of all the riches there are to be had in the Premier league, why the hell would he take reduced pay to stay with us?

Anyway I think this argument is irrelevant. Apparently talks broke down last year when this type of offer was on the table. Sam has since said he wants to stay so they have re-opened negotiations. Hopefully there will be a better deal on the table which he will accept.

I think Sam is definitely loyal, judging by his willingness to re-negotiate but he must be offered a better deal to stay and reward his loyalty in my opinion.

Murphy wanted security so going on a lower salary for one year, meant he got a longer contract.

Byram is being courted by premiership sides, it doesn't make sense in this case as you would want to retain his services for another year to push for promotion and shunt his value up.

Good posts but you are all forgetting one thing. Agents own good players these days. They frequently determine who stays and goes. I'd have Byram on 25k a week for 4 years but it's not up to me. Also I don't have 5 million quid just lying around.

Got to remember we are in the championship not premier league. A wage structure will be in place to keep us financially viable. I t was big wages that got us an embargo. Byram and his agent will decide if he stays or go,Think we will want a lot more than 5 mill for him so think he will be staying this season anyway

I'm with Gummie on the performance based pay, after all that is how we all get along in our work lives. However, not in football and loyalty goes out the window when your are offered a 4 year deal on silly money. Murphy taking the deal he did if true is very admirable, but as already stated he isn't in Byram's class, still he could probably get bigger money elsewhere if his agent worked hard enough.

Performance based contracts are beneficial for both parties if structured well. (the following numbers are just an example) If Byram is on £10k his agent wants £12k and we offer £9k but with £4-5k in bonuses (Appearances, assists, goals, etc. ) its good for everyone. If he plays badly or gets injured then we reduce our wage bill by £52k a year if he plays well he can earn more than he asked for and most likely we as a team will be doing better. That drives up attendances, shirt sales, televised matches and money at the end of the year we get for our position in the league so we can justify the higher amount he receives without falling foul of FFP.
If we haven't offered something like this though then he has every right to turn it down. £12-14k would be what I would consider fair at this level for a player with his talent/potential.

Sadly it will be down to money. I am sure Byram wants to go into premiership with Leeds but if Cellino offers 20 grand a week with a million pound bonus if we go up then Newcastle offer 50 grand a week with a fat signing on fee which does he take. If he stays he may get injured mid season and be out then his value drops. If we don't get promoted he is no better off. If he takes Newcastles offer he banks 200 grand a month. The fact is he is a class player and brutal as it is class players end up in premiership more money. The only thing that will stop him going is if Newcastle do not meet Cellinos valuation, then he stays till Jan at least and by then we will be at top of table and and things will look better and chances are if we are going up he will stay, personally think that's how it will pan out.

it three up front hard to say who is in mid-filed so
marco
berandi bamba cooper taylor

cook adeyemi
byram dallas
ant wood
leaves good bench and can swop players around for ones left out as we have same type of player on bench . and gives players a rest

Unlikely but If Lennon went to Everton and rose went to Chelsea and we make over one million due to sell on clauses then we could get Buckley

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2015 19:25:44
We have a 10% sell on for Rose. Chelsea willing to pay a reported £15m so that nets us a tidy £1.4m (Spurs paid £1m so we don't get any of that). At that point Buckley would be a viable and top signing.

Just read somewhere that Newcastle are going to put in an offer of £4m for Sam. I didn't realise you are allowed to buy players on HP now, because I'm assuming that £4m is just a deposit. Cheeky #$@%s!

Apparently Sam has said he's going nowhere before the end of transfer window. That's good news imo. I'm guessing he will see how we are doing by Christmas and stay if we are there or there abouts. Seems reasonable. Unless of course MC puts his hand in his pocket and makes him a good offer, which he might be persuaded to do if Sam plays so well it becomes obvious he's a vital part of the team. Either way it should mean that Sam will be working his b*lls off - to increase his contract terms or transfer fee

If reports are true that Cellino is offering him a reduced wage to sign for the long term, I doubt he will stay. Maybe Mr Untouchables, the man in the know can shed a bit of light on this for us lol!

MM, great short post. Why is Cellino behaving this way? What he did with Murphy was good business and he was able to force such a deal because for half the time Murphy had underperformed. Byram has never underperformed for a sustained period. Stick Byram on 25k a week for 4 years, then his transfer value goes back up to 9m. Then should we make the PL his value will automatically go up to 15m. Should he play well in the PL he will be worth closer to 20m. For the extra wage investment it will be well worth it.

If he does stay as long as another season then he deserves huge credit, because I'm sure he will have had plenty of offers behind the scenes. There's only a limited time we can hold onto young talent while we are in championship. On the other hand, if we get promoted- that's a whole new ball game. So come on lads. THIS season may be our best chance!!

We need to put on a good show on Thursday even if we rest a few of our top players and give others a chance. We are Leeds and cannot be embarrassed the way some of the Championship teams were last night. I know they will all say we are concentrating on the league but that is BS. let's see some new talent and get a win.

7 sides lost and all 7 can now concentrate on the league, we don't need a cup distraction neither, beat Donny then get beat 1-0 away to Chelsea and that'll do

I kind of agree with what you're saying Smitch but which games in our most recent history stand out in your memory? For me, got to be the cup games at Man Citeh's poor relations, White Hart Lane and The Emirates. Yes they were in the more prestigious FA Cup but I would love to see us beat one of the Premier big boys and then get knocked out and concentrate on the league.

Winning is a habit and breeds confidence.

Ant scored. Wood didn't. No brainer. Start with ant
Create competition. Don't want to get into strikers being played regardless if they score
Not really fair on ant to be benched again when he was far more productive in a shorter time. I reckon ant could hit 25 given the chance
