I'm a life long Leeds United supporter and a season ticket holder of 25 years. I must sadly say that the atmosphere generated by a small portion of supporters (at home games in particular), is unwanted. Abusive chants towards the current owners constantly almost for the whole of last season has continued already this season despite 11 new signings, and the search for heavy investment.

Through all his faults, Mr Bates has known for some time that he's taken the club has far as he can and has tried his best to make the club attractive to potential investors with the development of Elland Road etc. Now it seems there is something in the pipeline regarding investment and/or a full takeover.

I think the current board/owners already know how the fans feel regarding Mr Bates after chanting 'Bates Out' for a full season - There is no need to carry on - he's trying to sell!

The players and manager can do without it too. They need us to concentrate on getting behind them for 90mins. Instead of making negative noises about something that is out of our control, let's start and make Elland Road a fortress again and focus on getting behind the 11 men on field. We ALL need to be as ONE - us the supporters, the players & the management team need to be together as to whats going on on the pitch if we are to have a good go this season. We need positive support 100% of the time for 90mins.

I fully understand the frustrations - but during the 90mins the team need us to be positive about the football and nothing else.

Come on boys & girls, let's be sensible about it. Let's be together and march as one for the 11 men in the white shirts.

MOT {Ed013's Note - Well said and like I have mentioned before, save the negatives for outside the ground. When the players are on the pitch 100% support please}

Believable38 Unbelievable2

Completely agreew with your comments about the boo boys. Save it for outside, once the whistle has gone we should be behind the team 100% Even Diouf while he's wearing a white shirt!

Don't agree with your pro Btaes comments though, only reason he's taken the club as far as he can is because he is unwilling to put his hand in his pocket to spend on players. making the club more attractive to new investors by developing hotel etc is just to line his pockets in my opinion...

Agree1 Disagree1

Wholehearedly agree! On saturday the few persons shouting against Bates soon shut up when they realised they were in the minority. With regards to investing in the club infastructure, I suppose that this is the type of thing investors will want to see. if buying a business they will want to see if it is viable and by increasing the income streams and looking at using Elland Rd other than on matchdays will impress investors far more than having a massive wage bill and debts for players who, at the end of their contracts have no value anyway. I would imagine that the reasons he doesn't put his hand in his pocket to buy players are that a) he personally doesn't have it and b) lessons have been learnt about spending what you haven't got!

12 Aug 2012 20:23:06
No signing unless a few get of wage bill. Went to the Shrewsbury game and we have a team capable of promotion. Was really annoyed with a minority of Leeds fans booing Diouf! Fair doos abit of banter but booing him everyone he touches the ball is unfair. Personally if I played for a team where I wasn't born or live I wouldn't try my hardest if there booing me. I'd just take my wages and sit on the bench if Diouf gets offered a proper contract. I no hes had an infamous past but so have Leeds! Get behind Diouf and the team! {Ed013's Note - I would like the people that were booing to write in and explain why as I bet they are youngsters that just get on the wagon and don't really understand why they are booing him. Yes he has history, as does Neil Warnock. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I cant say I like the bloke, but if he pulls on the white shirt then we should support him}

Believable12 Unbelievable2

Wow here's to guys at last speak with some brains in their heads Ed well said great comments and poster I'm with you on this who hasn't done something and regretted it eh??times change people change no one would've had Neil few years back now look at it! We can't wait to see him get us to premier CAN WE ? In Neil we trust if diouf becomes a liability just show him the door but till then he's wearing OUR TEAMS SHIRT SO BLOODY GET BEHIND HIM as I stated in previous posts Do you not think our other players hear it? And if they get on with him etc etc ? LEEDS FOR LIFE WINGY MK MOT

Agree2 Disagree0

Well put ED. I was at the game in the cop and the bits of booing, came from my part. I don't understand some of are supporters, they want the team to win and supporting the players is going to help us achieve this goal. There like sheep, making cow noises because they probably don't know any of the club songs. So they think, i know what ill pretend to fit in by booing with the small party. Then people will think i love my football and have friends.
The lad is wearing are colours. So if you carn't respect the player, atleast respect the colours or change yours.
These people act like they've never done anything in there life's.
The lad no matter what, is a game changer and there in short supply at the moment.

May be about to give Diouf a contract as heard he is looking for a house within spitting distance of Elland Road

Well he always has been a 'phlegm-boyant' player!

He can buy mine on tempest road for £5000, on a serious note
Why not give this guy a chance, he could surprise the lot of us:

And Secondly he is a bit out off our price range just read that the club won't accept anything less than £15m for him
So ?? Enlighten me

Ersonally I would rather keep McCormack even of everton offer 1.5 mill. No many championship strikers highest goalscorer of last season that still remains in the championship. But if the offers high enought we cant refuse. What u think ed?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Nice reply ed {Ed058's Note - I'd keep him, good player, a hard worker. Still need a 20+ goal striker McCormack is class at predicting the ball, always in the right place at the right time, 2 mill + could get us a cracking striker though.}

Luciano becchio played wth varney and rosco either side of him in what was essentialy a 433 when attacking, a 451 when defending. Both him and rosco got on the score sheet and played well together for first tme n a whle, got me thinking could ths be the way forward and accomodating both and getting them playng together. When lucky got 20goals t was n a 433. Wth austin norris green n the middle and becchio rosco and diouf/varaney up top we look very strong and a handful for any team in the leauge imo. Add a strker and a flair player and sky is the limit. M.O.T

What's all your problem with diouf he is our player now and it's all about time you persons realized that he hasn't killed anyone(just spat).what do you think Ed {Ed013's Note - Support the lad if he plays for Leeds}

Believable9 Unbelievable1

I remember singing about his wife being a slag and singing 'brucey brucey knock him out' about six months ago. But long story short he is a Leeds player now and no one that knows anything about football can deny he is way better than championship quality and he was only on 2k a week at Doncaster so getting him for peanuts, as far as his personality goes i think he is one of those people like Warnock and previously Vinnie Jones. As in you hate them if they dont play for you but you soon come to love them when they are at your club. So the lad has my support too.

Agree1 Disagree0

It's not that long ago that signing a "Bad Boy" was seen as a badge of honour amongst us Leeds fans. How times change! Personally I think Diouf has the skill and unpredicability that has been missing for many a season and if he can get fit again and show why he was once worth millions then his signing could be a masterstroke by Warnock

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2012 13:51:24
Who'd you think will be captain Ed? :)
Norris? Pearce? Personally I think McCormack and Green aren't captain material.... Also if McCormack goes to everton surely well receive 1.5+ Million to get CMS or more likely Maynard? Calufc96 {Ed013's Note - I would go with Pearce}

Avid follower of leeds, and this website, and hearing a few things about the match on Saturday, and you can tell theres a real buzz about whats going on! Takeover or no takeover, Diouf or no Diouf, i think everyone should get behing warnock and company becasue at the end of the day, this team can do it! Belief spirit and good support will take us to the top! This team is alot better collectively then last years, and that starts with a good defence! So i think forget about the takeover and accept the leeds team as they are and lets crack on!

Im glad to see diouf at leeds, i watched him for donny a few times and he was the stand out player, he was the best player for donny when they played us also. Despite his personality hes an unselfish and skillful player. We need his class and one or two more if were going to make a push this season. And i love the fact that we get these hated players as no one likes us anyway, i would love joey barton here, cant imagine many agrees but just my opinion of course. Champions league winner FM2012 with the mighty whites 2016, i know its sad but im proud of it! MOT, VINNY.

From what i can make out, NW isn't going to make any new signings this week unless the takeover is complete, but according to various sources it looks like it won't be complete until after the transfer windows closes, the only person who could join is el hadj douf on maybe a years contract, this would be confirmed before the wolves game

Listen I'm a Londoner and an ex Chelsea fan because of where I lived but the thing that drew me to Leeds United was the fact that all fans cared for each other and once we are all under the Leeds United flag then we are all the same. This is why we must support Diouf during his time here because he has joined us under that flag. And if you have any respect for the crest on the front of the shirt then you will respect anyone that wears it. Player, Fan Manager, anyone.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Not a real fan if you change who you support even if it is to the greatest football club ever

Agree2 Disagree11

It was because my heart wasn't in it because it wasn't passionate it was just expectation and if we achieved our expectation then we were mildly content thinking of the next one. No passion at all. But with Leeds I can get my fix of wild passion anytime?

Agree8 Disagree0

Look he has seen the light now and is a LEEDS fan. What exactly gives you the right to decide who is a real fan or not? Seems to me too many of us have been playing this petty childish game of im a better fan than you, or i go to more games than you, WE'RE ALL LEEDS 'UNITED' so lets stay united?

Enjoyed my first look at the new players yesterday. For the first 10 mins they looked like a team that had seldom played together, and I believe a little bit of Elland Road nerves for the majority of them. Thoroughly enjoyed the game and watched eagerly as bits of co-ordination took place. I think Warnock was still trying combinations, but it paid off.
Shrewsbury looked a good (tall) organised team that had played together and were used to winning, but class showed in the end. My ratings are:
Kenny - 9. Except for the one fumble that he got away with absolute al round class. Good kicking, brilliant shot stopping. Looked unbeatable.
Byram - 8. A real prospect and looked very good at this level. A bit naive at times which is to be expected. Good cover for peltier.
White - 6. Looked a bit out of sorts at first at left back. Struggled against big players in the air.
Pearce -7 Showed real touches of class and looked solid to say he's played with so many partners. Needs to play with Lees regularly at centre half.
Peltier - 8 Out of position, but looked a real classact at the back. Role restricted his forward movement but looked a real pacey, sold Rolls Royce of a defender.
Austin -9. I really enjoyed watching this guy. He was a real joy. Looked a little out of sorts at times and tired towards the end. Great pass, good tackle and tenacity, stinging shot, not bad in the air. A future star :)
Varney -7. Ran and ran. Some really nice touches and I like this guy out left. He will score goals for us.
Norris - 6. In and out and looked a little short of match fitness. Box to box and took his goal well.
Green - 6. Ran his heart out and for me looks a really good box to box midfielder. Not as lightweight as he looks. Not a right winger though. Unlucky not to score when they conceded the penalty.
Becchio - 6. Looked short of fitness to me, but ran from start to being subbed. Got kicked to high heaven. More to come I think.
McCormack -7 After first 20 improved and showerd real Leeds passion. Free kicks and corners mixed.Sign him up

Subs
Poleon- 5 Showed brief flashes of class, but a little slow and naive when on the ball. More to come
Diouf - 6 looked back end heavy, some of his passes were class. Looked "up for it". PS the guy had a white shirt on. Don't boo him! I expect real class from this guy.
Brown - 4. Not enough time to impress in a packed midfield.

Shrewsbury ended up cheering like theyd scored when they won corners. Very amusing. Well beaten in the end
:)

What are you a pundit for YEP..?

Poster 2........ Your point is??

Pointless in my opinion and adds nothing to any discussion.

Initial poster. Thanks for the info, especially for those of us who could not make the match. It's good to get a feel for how the team is gelling, or not.

I caught the last 20 or so on the radio and was disappointed to hear the boos for Diouf. Love him or hate him, he is on the pitch trying for us, wearing our colours. Give the guy a break, I am sure he knows he has done some unsavoury things in the past. For those that did boo, i am sure you all have things in your past that you are not so proud of too.

Anyway, looking forward to the Wolves match and to see how we get on against one of the bigger championship sides this year

I reckon Josh McEachran would be a quality loan signing and if Middlesbrough are favourites to sign him then surely we would be in with a great shout of landing him but sadly I don't think Warnock would be interested in him he's not gonna be sent of 4 or 5 times a season

From what I've seen varney has been a great bit of business by NW, couldn't make the game yesterday but I'm hearing he played well? Also think Norris is a good signing and I'm very impressed with warnocks new team and his blooding of youngsters - byram and poleon especially as they look as if they've played in the first team for years, looking forward to wolves next Saturday and finally getting back to elland road! Well i have posted regulary that NW will bulid a team that will take a lot of beating, you can see today that the work rate is as good as i have seen it for several seasons and it will get better, we have players that want to be here that is most important thing. All these greedy gits, Snoody, howson they will regret moving to a smaller club, and letting their agents run their affairs, i never want to see them back here never.
Lets all get together and get behind this squad, all you persons that booed Diouf today what are you playing at, this guy is a quality player very dangerous, i would rather have him than play agaist him. Stop all this stupidity and get behind him. Very Big game next week, keep the faith with The team, the manager, the takeover, and the supporters. Kevin 50 years

Believable16 Unbelievable0

Well firstly snodgrass and howson are NOT greedy, snodgrass stayed last season saying that he will stay for one more and then go to the premierleague. and howson actually wanted to stay and we shipped him off.....beckford on the other hand was greedy.

Agree1 Disagree11

You are deluded, im sorry but if howson wanted to stay he'd have signed the contract offered to him same with johnson, arguably with Snodgrass to as yes he did show more loyalty than the others but he still ended up with the same result as beckford howson and johnson

I'd be more than happy if we kept Diouf for this season or till January and spent our funds available on a striker only. More funds would be provided in January by new owners I guess. For me, I'd like Bothroyd to lead the line, imagine this team..

Kenny
Peltier Lees Pearce Drury

Norris Austin
Diouf McCormack Varney

Bothroyd

I do not like Diouf for his spitting but he is a good player. Said I wouldn't support Leeds if he joined. If we sign him there'll be those who will say Don Revie will turn in his grave. Last player we signed where same thing was said I recall was a certain Mr Vincent Jones. We won the 2nd Division title same season. I wonder if the same will happen again. I got to say if we sign 2 more good players I think it will.

Believable21 Unbelievable0

Very true lad. I remember them days well, with my Vinny V hair cut. Still got picture of me and my brother, with are arms round the Vinny Jones at the old training complex(lawnswood). He gave us that little bit of an edge that every side needs to be in the mix.
Can you imagine if Diouf was a good boy, how much he would cost buy him. We have the right manager in, to turn this lad into a real force this season. So give the lad a chance, people deserve atleast that.

He spits when he wants, he spits when he wants, he's El Haj Djiouf, he spits when he wants ! best chant yesterday !

Agree6 Disagree2

I think we may now be a complete team with diouf who can play up front or on the right. NW said he would like two players or get someone who can do both. It would be nice to get a creative player but who would drop out Norris or Austin? Already green was pushed to RM and may find diouf takes that position. McCormack has good feet, I watched a couple of games last year at elland road and he was better than snodgrass. I think we will miss snoddy but we will go up this year without him, and wave as he goes the other way with Norwich.

Believable24 Unbelievable4

I was booing him for his attitude and not his ability as a football player. He knows we will all be behind him, cheering him on if he does well and doesn't do anything stupid.

Does it bother anyone else that we keep bringing in players that are mostly over 30? I mean I understand a team needs experience but come on

Believable1 Unbelievable34

We have a wide range of ages in our squad. For example our back four today included White 20, Pearce 25, Peltier 25, Byram 18... Or you could put Lees 20 in there. McCormack is 25, Becchio is 28, Austin is 27, Varney and Green are 29, Poleon is 18.

I get that Warnock has brought in some 30+ guys but it's a balancing act. He has both youth and experience.

LUFC-Bob

Agree21 Disagree0

Do u mean Byram Poleon Killock Taylor and Turner twins? So long as we get promoted. Average age of team is only fractionally higher than ideal. Will be perfect in PL next season. Old players can teach new.

True but if warnock allows the younger lads to play games then we will have a good mix of experience and youth. Could feed well of eachother.

Want to make a few points about today. No.1 wouldn't have missed it for the world as I've not missed a home game for a long time. No.2 if that had have been last years team we'd have got beat no3 last years team each time the opposing team was in our half I thought they'd score no4 I had no such feelings today and thought they were brilliant at the back especially Kenny and Pelts. No.5 I just want to say if anyone pulls on the White shirt of Leeds and you boo I don't see how you can call yourself a fan. Of course you have an opinion but don't you think you help the opposition especially the good sides in the championship please keep your opinion your entitled to until after the game.
