So I've been looking at a list of players that become free agents at the end of the month and, though I realise everyone wants to sign young, exciting players (myself included) , it looks to me like we could fix some of our teams problems without spending much at all.
Not going to put every name on it (some with huge wages, etc) but two of Adrian Mariappa, Steven Taylor or David Wheater for instance could give us a great central defensive pairing. Qpr Are letting Rob Green and Alejandro Faurlin go too. Would give us a good base of players with Championship experience but that can and have played at a higher level. Would still leave us needing a striker and a winger (hopefully Agra and/ or Limbombe) but not bad for free.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2016 17:12:20
Yeah Gummie Wheater was my call when Bolton got relegated, plenty of experience and much better than our current pairing .
QAs for Taylor not sure if the wages would stop that could probably go to prem team on a free.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 22:35:50
Taylor has dropped down to the Championship before, and would have taken a big pay cut when he did so, he might well be willing to do it again. The guy is also in his thirties now, his next club might be his last, he may well drop a division to play week in than risk a prem club and sitting on the bench the next few seasons, especially if we get a few good signings announced thus looking like a club on the rise. Not saying it will happen or that he won't get a better offer but worth giving his agent a call at least?
If not go for Adrian Mariappa, plenty of Champ Experience.

He still got a few goals in him.

Deffos MALUFC. I rate Fletcher. He'd bang 25 goals plus in this poor league.

He's only 29, I hold hope he's got a few more goals in him! Don't let a receding hair line fool you into thinking he's an old boy.

not leeds related but wanted to know what leeds fans thought on the big important european issue

for the record I am out. I think wayne rooney should be out of the england starting line up and this is very important to me and I stand by it

england are stronger with out wayne rooney

heart, rose, stones, smalling, walker, dier, ali, hendson (would of been drinkwater IMO) wiltshire, vardy, kane

what do fellow leeds fans think.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

10 Jun 2016 13:19:13
I think the current England lineup is being manipulated to accommodate Rooney. This was demonstrated in the game against Portugal where the diamond formation went wrong because Rooney pushed too far forward and split Kane and Vardy, in effect creating a 4-3-3 system. This led to Kane and Vardy spending too much time tracking the right and left backs. The void left by Rooney was causing Milner and Alli to be isolated as Dier was playing the DM role. In the game against Germany (albeit a friendly) we played with a sense of freedom with Alli playing in the AM role and linking up Kane. Rooney has a place in this squad (even the team) but he needs to play a more disciplined attacking midfield role.

Agree1 Disagree1

10 Jun 2016 13:28:29
Rooney should be on the bench. if he comes on as sub and does well he might have a claim in place of kane or vardy but it has to be earned. he hasn't scored a goal in tournament football for England since about 2004.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 14:11:09
agree with notts breakdown is spot on and alf as in rooney should be impact sub. ail is best behind kane and kane best with ali behind him, vardy needs to streach teams not track back leaving rooney as most advanced player. rooney has never done well at major tolement other than when he broke through, for me it is time he took back seat and gave others their chance and is there on bench if needed.

also think it is cirminal drinkwater didn't go and west ham duo noble and cresswell were not even considered. Never have been nor am I now a hogson fan. england ain't had the right manager since el tel which was also the last time we did well at major tolement.

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Jun 2016 14:47:05
Disagree about el tel being good manager. Player maybe not manager. Go as far as. Clueless.
Rooney. Always disliked. Midfielder not striker
Can't believe Morrison didn't get nod BW.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 15:04:46
Bermo, fitting Rooney in is a joke even though for England he dies "okay".
Our best performance for years was Germany away and I think he didn't play.
Not only not in form and slowing down by the day, fitting him in messes our shape and means we can't play players in their natural position. vardy up front and Ali as a no. 10.
Keep him on the bench and bring him on with 15 to go . I say!

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 15:16:10
Manager has his spots for Rooney and anyone who has played for Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 16:08:45
Of course I seem to recall the same discussion around Lennon vs Beckham back in the day. My view is there was no contest then, Beckham was less exciting to watch, but a much better footballer and there is none now, Rooney has to be in the first 11. Admittedly he has not hit his best form this season, but he is still the 5th highest scorer in the Euro's qualifying stats and the team qualified at a canter. If the team clicks, Rooney can make the difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 16:17:27
Hodgson always has a place for Rooney or any Liverpool players.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 16:32:14
I think we should play a 4 2 3 1 formation . Hart, walker, stones, smalling, rose ; dier, Rooney; sterling, wilshire, lallana; kane.
Vardy an impact sub . Think Rooney is crying out for this deeper position and his passing is far superior to anyone else's. Think he'd be terrific there. What people seem to be forgetting is that if anything we are changing to accommodate vardy.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 16:49:07
Why is Troy Deeney not in squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 17:14:09
Notts has stated it perfectly guys and I agree Rooney is an England sub. Dele behind Kane and Vardy is potentially lethal. I'm predicting our team can make it all the way to the Final.

Agree1 Disagree1

10 Jun 2016 17:17:24
Rooney, for me is an attacking midfielder and if used would sit behind two forwards .
Start with kane and vardy with Rashford as sub .
All these would get the nod over him as an attacker .

10 Jun 2016 22:10:01

Not one to dwell on the past and talk much about past players but I was just curious.

If we wanted (which I am sure most of us wouldn't including MC) how much do you reckon Tom Lees would cost us to bring back to the club.

I also see Anthony Stokes has been or is going to be realesed. weren't we courting him last season. At 27 maybe a decent option.

To bring tom back to Leeds?

Probably the same amount Wednesday
Payed him in wages.

I think no to both of them players

Won't it be strange if we actually sign new players before kick off this year? Rather than just miss out on about 10 and sign average like last er 10 yrs!
I think good quality young prem experienced manager like monk will attract some good young players this year.
Let's hope the positivity and excitement we are feeling delivers this time round.
Where's George anybody?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2016 10:25:50
I also hope players like sloth and phillips are used more often, even if its in cup games. Two really good players who have been a bit neglected. Would like to see some off the payroll as well. Mowatt needs to start showing what he can do as well. Played out of position yes, but he has the class to adapt. Left wing is an attacking midfield role, it does not mean you have to just stand out there uou can cut inside whenever you want. Just don't think he gave his all last season, make or break this year I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 10:34:43
Aus I always give the newbies a chance there's always a hope that when we sign this player from wherever that the write up we are given turns into a gem .
Simple fact has been that apart from our own young players most of them are either not good enough or inconsistent .
I think last season was our worst for years in regards to conceding late goals .
We beat some really good sides and then loose to Charlton.
My hope is that if M C is going to bring in certain overseas players being rumoured that he balances this with a number of championship/ prem experienced players.

we have made very few good singings since larry left, his eye for a player was great, gary mac also did well even if he was poor manager and tatiction.

Silvestri has done well on the whole and I believe in wood although it sorry he has lt me down a few times.

Apart from the back we need a Gradel or Snoo in midfield as well as a decent striker to partner Wood then maybe we could look at being in the mix .
Taylor and cook we need to keep!
